Positives:

+ I didn't spend any money to watch the game
+ Just 3 more weeks until it's for real.

Negatives:

- Another fumble by the first team offense. Not the end of the world, but hopefully they stop that trend soon.

- Depth at OL and QB is not looking good to say the least.

I'm not too worried about OL. EDS and Sherrod are decent depth, and no team is going to have an 8th OL that's worthy of starting. Sherrod is clearly an injury question mark, but I think he's capable of starting at LT or RT if necessary (as long as his leg is healed).

Harrell reminds my of Flynn's rookie year. We might need to just cross our fingers that Harrell doesn't take a meaningful snap all year. Not the best scenario, but it's tough to get a good backup when you have the best QB in the league. No good QB wants to be a backup, so any decent QB is going to sign with Miami, Jacksonville, etc., ie: a place where they have a chance to start.

Rookies and 2nd year guys continue to play relatively well.
Defense, as a whole, does indeed seem to be tackling better.
Masthay is nasthay!
ST play is still pretty solid.

Offensive production is still anemic. The ARod-to-Jordy throw was a thing of beauty, but what else did they do?
Rushing attack is still flat-lining. The 2 leading rushers were our starting and second-team QBs (23 and 22 yards, respectively).
I can't say anything about Harrell that hasn't already been, but he's not ready for prime time. I don't think it's time to knee-jerk, but MM surely has to consider this position very carefully. He's maybe had the majority of his playing time already, and may not have near as many opportunities over these last 2 preseason games.
Defense looks exactly the same as last year; DL making tackles 4 and 5 yards downfield, LB's and/or DB's getting lost on crossing routes, allowing way too many 3rd-and long conversions, then the inevitable DB breakdown. And wth is up with Neal? Somebody remarked in chat that he should be abusing the guys he was matched up against tonight, yet he's 'just another guy' out there.
This one is harder to explain because it's not something that is definite, but, to my eye, the team has no spark, no drive, no pep...something. It's like they're mostly just going through the motions of playing, and they look unprepared.
Speaking of looking like last year, the team looks just like they did for the Giants game. Lost, lethargic...

And lastly, I'm tired of this team being a "yeah, but..." team:
"Man, we look like crap".
"Yeah, but we had 18 guys out".
"Yeah, but they game planned and we didn't".

"They converted 3rd downs at a 55% rate".
"Yeah, but Capers is playing a vanilla defense".
"Yeah, but they played their starters longer".

And on, and on...strange that the other teams we've played aren't afflicted by the same things. Just sayin'.

The lack of urgency is only a minor concern at this point. It is clear the number one thing the Pack is trying to do is get out of pre-season as healthy as they can after last week's debacle. They're not playing well to say the least, but this will all be forgotten if they do step it up once the games really do matter.

+ I laughed so hard at the replacement official "FAIL"...there was a play where the Brown's receiver clearly dropped a pass...the official was, I think, going to rule it a catch and a fumble (laughable enough on its own) and instead of throwing the bean bag to mark the fumble, he throws his flag. The laugh itself was worth putting up with all the bad football.

The way this team has played in the last several games dating back to last season, the replacement refs should be the least of our concerns. I know, I know, it's "only" preseason. My fear is the starters think they can simply turn on the switch come Sept 9 and all will be good in Packerland. That rarely works.

caught AR on TV after the game and he was just shaking his head at 13 running attempts and 22 yards gained. saying that he and GH shouldn't be the leading rushers on the team and that's got to get fixed. I think he's more tired of not having a running game than MM or TT...?

Ha! I was half paying attention during that play, and I thought that's what I saw. Great stuff. It's amazing to me the simple things these replacements are boning up. I think we could all forgive them for not knowing some of the nuances of the rule book or making judgement calls a little differently than the regulars, but I feel like they're goofing the basic things I could handle if I won a contest and got to ref a game. (That's actually a fantastic idea if they can't settle this labor dispute...)

As for the game itself, just a few thoughts: Harrell has definitely looked rough, but he's obviously shown enough in practice to earn last year's pay bump and be named the new #2. I'm really hoping he sees a few series with the 1's these next two games to get a better gauge of how he would look if called upon.

Second, I remember years ago watching a Bears game with a Chicago diehard buddy who was just giddy about their new LB Urlacher. He said on every defensive stop, you'll see #54 in the camera shot. If he's not making the tackle, he's near it. I got that vibe with Smith last night. No, I'm not near ready to compare the two players, but I loved what I saw from him last night and his nose for the ball. Fingers crossed he minimizes the absence of Bishop this season until we see him paired with #55 when Des makes it back for the playoffs.

Green did look like he's got some talent. But he's another guy that I remember at least 1 mistake on a blitz pickup that caused Rodgers to have to scramble right up the middle. Someone said he had 2 failed blitz pickups (I didn't see the second one).

One of these backs is going to have to do the job in terms of blitz pickup. So far nobody has done it real well just yet.

My memory of Flynn is different than yours. Flynn showed moxie and an ability to make plays. He wasn't as polished as he would become, but he hadn't had to benefit of a full training camp or McCarthy's QB school.

Harrell is much more like how Brohm was. He isn't even as good as J.T. O'Sullivan.

I forgot how they played last year in the preseason. They had to come out of the gate and play probably their toughest game of the year vs. NO and put on an offensive clinic. SF is going to come into lambeau looking for blood and anxious to show everyone how their D would handle the GB offense. If they come out with some "hangover" from the playoff loss, it's going to be a long day.

Jennings, Finley and Benson may be starting in WK1 but they need to get practicing like yesterday so their timing with the O is on.

I didn't see all the bad QBs. But the late '80s early '90s where you sort of had a revolving door of guys like Chuck Fusina, Randy Wright, Blair Kiel, a washed up Vince Ferragamo, and Anthony Dilweg, yeah those guys were not good. At least there was a brief glimmer of hope when Don Majkowski played, but after a year and a half, a torn rotator cuff ended his little window of success.

Rodgers missed an easy TD on first down after the turnover and Nelson took the ball from a shorter defender on the TD. ARod misses a wide open Jennings against the Giants and missed an open guy against San Diego last week. Not good. 3 in a row can get in one's head.
