Pros:
New long snapper looks fantastic!!
Cons:
We do what we do and what we do is target Adams while leaving outclassed tackles on an island.

Pros
It's over
They got a TD at least
Daniels INT was fun
Cons
Everything else. Game went about as expected. This team isn't in the same zip code as the legit SB contenders. Defense is middle of the pack but this offense is a lost cause
Pros - small hands Teddy is no Carson Palmer
+
I think I finally have a pretty accurate read on where the team is.
-
Where the team is.
The Packers played like a team that is very beat up that went on back to back West Coast road trips. A lot of teams that have playoff aspirations lost today - Steelers, Seahawks, Panthers. They are home next week and hopefully Bak, Sam and the rest of the OL are healthy enough to go. That's the only silver lining I can come up with.
Pros. If we lose the division we might get a wild card win over washington.
Cons. This team is complete horse ****
Team was really the consensus SB favorite off the Seattle choke job and the deterioration on the offensive side is really puzzling. Jordy's loss is an obvious factor but something else is going on. Pretty clear now that the team isn't nearly as talented as many fans thought and they've got lots of holes to fill.
Positives? The game ended
Negatives? Looking forward to next season

we beat them in 2009 real bad week 17 and lost the week later.
76 int was nice.
27 was gutting it out looked like he hurt ribs
12 was alive at the end of the game.
mastay fake run
-
everything else. injuries on the Oline are too big to overcome. defense, well, they didn't do anything great, just steadily sucking really, but gashing runs and passes were there all day long. ST's - onside was poorly kicked. 44 fumbling in red zone again. play calling is horrifying, no 84 still, not getting the force feeding 17, he's just not there.

I think they were competitive
Worst:
Game loss ever I can remember in recent decades
Played like a team uninspired right from the start
Play-calling is not the problem on this team
McCarthy is losing his grip on this team; His schtick might be getting stale
Mental mistakes...stupid mental errors
Adams should be released after the season
Dumb call on onside kick
Best:
Fake punt
Daniels INT
love this team. but that was about as ugly as it gets.
Pros - the 1st quarter was competitive
Cons - the game is 4 quarters
I think everyone on the OL is either out or dinged up pretty badly. They probably have been for quite a few weeks. If Bakhtiari and Bulaga come back for the playoffs at least we won't see a jail break rush again. Any offense, let alone one that has been struggling, is going to have trouble missing both OTs.
Defense didn't play badly. Gave up 38 points, but 14 were directly from fumble returns for TDs and another 7 was on a 25 yard drive. And they get Shields back soon.
Biggest negatives - we may have the worst WRs/TEs in the NFL and there is no help coming.

My cable went out with 5 mins left in the 2nd quarter. It is still out.
Pros
Lots of candidates for comeback player of the year next year
Cons
I could see us as fans overrating the talent on this team, but, geez, everywhere you looked people were talking about how talented this roster is/was.
Baffling.

Maybe Adams needs glasses.
Seriously.

From what I could see at the restaurant, the INT at the end of the half looked much worse.

Better question: why is he still starting?
Adams or Rodgers?
Davante Adams said he would "love" to play the Cardinals in the playoffs and have another shot. "I love playing teams like this," he said.
Cam, Ben, Brady & Rodgers combined for 2 TD passes today. COMBINED. All but Rodgers had matchups they should've dominated. Unbelievable.

Looked like it
That is the problem. It doesn't matter how bad he plays, he knows he will always be the starter.
Don't let the defensive points allowed fool you - the D really sucked. Lots of missed tackles and poor coverage in the middle of the field. And before anyone posts that Palmer only threw for 260 he didn't play the entire game and he ended up with a QB rating of 108.
I thought Lang was saying "why did you throw!" After some of the comments he and Sitton have made about running the ball, I assumed Rodgers had checked out of a run or threw a quick pass out of a run play. But seriously, 4 plays from the Cardinals 2 and we throw to the least reliable player on the team? Don't if that is Rodgers or McCarthy, but definitely a dumb call. Based on Lang's reaction I'm guessing it was Rodgers decision.
I think my biggest complaint, other than the obvious ones have been stated, is seeing our O vs. the Cardinals O. They have a lot of talent, but it seems Arians takes good players and gives them easy plays to complete...easy/high % passes that Floyd/Fitz/Brown can catch and try to make something happen. Palmer got rocked early and then threw quick passes the rest of the game...why can't the Packers do any of that? They are different schemes obviously, but there aren't any easy routes to TEs or RBs that can be installed? It seems like McCarthy expects average/good players to make a great play before AND after they get the ball in their hands, Arians seems to get them the ball and then let them work. For a deep, veteran O I don't think McCarthy's scheme is bad, but right now we have a lot of shaky youth.
Also, Rodgers still seems off. I don't know what the deal is. He made some amazing throws and some baffling awful throws.
The D gave up 24. Obviously anything over 20 is not good, but considering the D had to defend short fields twice against the #2 O in the league I cut them a little slack. They gave the O several opportunities to keep us in the game and the O just flat out sucked. The D wasn't perfect, but they weren't the problem today.
People want to compare Adams regression to Boykin but I'm not sure I have seen anything like this. Adams doesn't look like he even belongs on an NFL roster much less a starter. Something has to be really ****ed up with the guy because he was really trending up after last season and the preseason. Now? I don't think I'd keep him on the practice squad
12 is in the worst QB slump I've ever seen.
The defense gave up 400 yards and allowed 120 yards rushing and almost 5 YPC. And that's with AZ pulling starters. Had they kept the pedal to the metal it would have been San Diego like.
The offense was pathetic - probably the worst I have seen in some time- but the D played a "C" game at best and that's not good enough.
In my opinion this teams needs a shake-up. The question is, where does it come from. It's obvious that Rodgers has a problem with coaching staff. McGinn's article about offensive speed was true. The offensive line is not dominant in any phase. This team has produced one Super Bowl appearance with possibly the best quarterback in the league. I know, we have had a good run. Multiple playoff appearances, NFCN championships, but it can be argued that this team and coaching staff has underachieved. This is a tough game to win consistantly and maybe how good we are is good enough, but maybe it's not. Whether it be in business or life, once there is success one of two things happens: growth or regression. The Packers seem to be doing the latter. I'm curious if they can reverse the trend, reinvent themselves, and get back to dominance.
And the thing is is that we are 2 weeks away from post season play and the offense is so inconsistent. Almost every D in the league should get at best a "C" grade against the Cards, they are a great offense. But when your own offense can't score any points at all even after a gift INT by a defensive lineman to immediately put you in the red zone is quite a pathetic thing to see this late in the year. Whenever it looked like we were getting traction in the game and looking to score there was either a fumble or an INT or something to stall a drive.
Nice post DocBenni, agree with you. And one of the reasons the Packers have been winning the division so frequently is that the other teams consistently suck. Each year, two (and some times three) of the other division teams are absolute trash.
TT needs to take a hard look at this team and coaching staff in the off season. Either he has a really good roster chock full of talent and the coaching staff is failing, thus forcing changes. Or, he's not the talent evaluator/roster builder we all think he is. One SB appearance/win with #12 is unacceptable.
The defense only played well in comparison to the offense. Palmer would've thrown for over 400 yards if his defense wasn't scoring and keeping the offense off the field.
YATittle posted:12 is in the worst QB slump I've ever seen.
30 TDs versus 7 interceptions with this group of WRs is a pretty good "slump"
The receivers are very seldom open. There are virtually no long plays on slants, deep outs, post patterns, - nothing like that. Something like the Montgomery slant pattern for a 30 yard TD where he ran away from the defense. Or something like the 10-12 plays Nelson made last year on post patterns or max protect deep play action passes. They aren't available this year because the receivers can't get open.
Just look at the TD passes in the last few games.
Today (1)- TD on a screen pass to Lacy
Oakland (1) - James Jones 30 yard TD on a blown coverage
Dallas (2) - screen pass to Starks, 3 yard TD to Richard Rodgers
Detroit (2) - 8 yard pass to Adams, Hail mary
Chicago (1) - screen to Lacy
That's five games, 7 TD passes. 3 on screens. 2 short red zone passes. A blown coverage and a Hail Mary.
Show me some film with 5-6 plays a game where a guy is running free for a TD and Rodgers misses him and I'd agree it's a slump. It's a lack of opportunity.
This, of course, doesn't get into the point that he was getting hit constantly today and barely had time to complete a 5 step drop at some points.
Thx Packlandva. I just hope that something changes this off season. My guess is that all the coaches stay. That we draft and devolpe with the target being LB, OT, etc. Maybe Monty and Jordy can make a big differnce next year. Maybe RR gets faster. Mabye Adams can hit the reset button and become the player we thought he would be.
I don't mind Rodgers appearing to be pissed. He should be. At himself, at the receivers, at the line, at the coaching staff. It worries me that it may be wearing thin on the his the rest of the team. This is of course pure speculation. To take from the NBA: Jordan, Bird, Kobe, etc were perfectionist and tough to play with. If I understand it so was Marino. However, if winning doesn't ensue, that personality can be toxic.
DocBenni posted:..... That we draft and develop with the target being LB, ....
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Drafting a MLB is not Ted's MO. He hasn't done it since he's been the GM. Not with a higher round pick anyway. But at least he keeps getting the BPA.
Epic embarrassment.
I've seen teams with lesser QBs with lesser talent have more that 57 yards passing in a half. Last week, they had 97 yards of offense in the first half. That is Cleveland Browns level bad. That's Tennesseee Titans level bad.
So it comes down to this- you have no playmakers on this offense and your "best OL ever" is bad. This is not about Jordy Nelson. This is about an entire offense getting pantsed by opposing defenses every week. They have the 22nd ranked offense, and 26th ranked passing offense. AARON RODGERS IS YOUR F-ING QB AND THIS IS WHERE YOU ARE???
It's scheme (i.e., coaching)- we have yet to see this team put an opposing defense on its heels and deliver knockout blows. They aren't fooling anyone. They aren't getting anyone off balance. They aren't getting open.
Its players (i.e., personnel/coaching)- if your receivers can't beat one on ones, then your players aren't good enough. If your OL is a parade of killer penalties and your QB is getting his head kicked in, your OL isn't good enough. If players who were once good (or trending good) but aren't anymore (Lacy, Adams, Cobb, R. Rodgers, the OL), then it's personnel and coaching.
So stand front and center Ted and Mike. This is your program. You told us these guys are Super Bowl worthy. That it's the best OL you've had here. That you're excited about the balance and that this team is going to truly be great. You've been none of these things. And if you were wrong about the players, it's your fault. If it's about the execution, it's still your fault because your job is to teach them how. You gave the playcalling up, and it's made the team worse. So the players, coaching, and personnel evaluations are all worse.
Your team, coming off a crushing NFCC Game loss has won but they have not improved. They're worse now than in the beginning of the season. It's a total organizational failure. I don't believe they can win a playoff game. There is an awful lot of work to do when it's over.
