A backup that had no prep is totally outplaying Locke.  Lol

It's three things.

Locke is not very good.

The Penn State DL has dominated the Badgers OL in the run game.

Longo doesn't really do anything to confuse the Penn State defense - maybe because he knows he doesn't a QB he can trust to do much other than make simple reads (and that's questionable too)

I'm with DD. I was expecting WI to be down by 14 or more in the first half.

There are many reasons WI lost this game but the bottom line is that good teams beat bad teams and WI isn't a good team. Unless WI digs deep and starts shelling out money for a quality QB and other decent players then I think games like last night will continue to be the norm. Welcome to the world of NIL football.

On the bright side. At least WI has a decent kicker. lol

We (Wisc and similar teams) will be almost like the old Kansas City Athletics, a pipeline to the Bamas (Yankees) of the world.  They get our good guys, we get their castoffs. This is really why they went to a 12 team playoff, it is an illusion that  some team other than the rich, elite can win.

it may happen once in a very blue moon but not often.

Is Indiana an illusion?  BYU?  Iowa State?  Boise State?   Kansas State?

Those aren’t blue blood programs and it’s possible most of them make the playoff this year.

I’m tired of hearing all the excuses why this team can’t compete or can’t win.  They are a top 20 generating revenue program in the country, with or without NIL.

Fickell is being paid as a top 15-20 coach.

Going .500 or 7-5 is unacceptable.  You want to win and win big?  They are going to have to open up the checkbook.  Especially to get a real QB.

They were never going to beat Alabama but if they had a decent QB they beat USC and Penn State.  They probably still lose to Oregon but a 2 loss WI team is absolutely in the playoffs and that should be the expectation.

This one pretty much played out like I thought it would.  Play a blue blood tough at home for a while but ultimately, they would be the one to flinch first and make the huge mistake.  I do think they did play their hearts out but the PSU talent just took over.

My only coaching complaint is that Longo kept running the ball right at them and that was not working at all and the defense couldn't get off the field.   What is it with football teams in the state of Wisconsin not being able to get off the field defensively?
