Notes:

Also competed in basketball and track and field as a Georgia prep in addition to playing quarterback, defensive back and kick returner. Played all 13 games as a true freshman in 2008 and was credited with eight tackles, three pass breakups and zero interceptions with one forced fumble. Started all 24 games the next two seasons — logged 58-7-2 with 8 1⁄2 tackles for loss in ’09 and 70-11-6 with two tackles for loss and one forced fumble in ’10. In ‘11, led the team in pass breakups and interceptions after tallying 62-10-7 with 7 1⁄2 tackles for loss in 13 starts. Team captain.

Positives:

Good size. Quick feet and flexible hip swivel. Keen eyes, instincts and anticipation. Is aware in zone and maintains field leverage. Excellent ball skills and production. Tracks throws, competes in the air and has hands to intercept. Very good closing burst. Bested all Combine CB participants with time of 3.90 seconds in short shuttle. Has special-teams experience as a jammer. Energetic, smart and durable.

Negatives:

Short arms. Speed and physicality are just adequate. Has some man-cover limitations — plays upright, shows some wasted movement in transition and gives up separation on non-vertical routes. Stressed by sudden receivers. Gets caught peeking in the backfield and bites on double moves. Average recovery burst and catch-up speed. Soft in run support — plays small, struggles to break down and is a weak, low tackler.

Summary:

A lean, instinctive, battle-tested ballhawk, Hayward is a finesse, zone corner at his best reading through the receiver to the quarterback. Tackling is main drawback, but has appealing ball skills to hold down a job as a No. 3.

At some point (soon) GB needed to think about Woody's replacement (and no Im not convinced he's moving to S). He declined in some areas last season.

This may be more about Woodson then it is Shields.

My guess is that all those late round picks are not something he wants to add to the roster (though i dont know what thryre giving up). They need top players and that's why I said earlier that I felt like they would be busy moving up. this part of the draft has tremendous value and they have a shot to really add quality picks.
He could even end up at FS. TT seems to like taller corners but doesn't mind shorter safeties (Collins, Peprah). I'd guess he'll start at corner though. Either way, sounds like a turnover creator who should fit in well.
No worries. The MasTTermind knows where that secret fast, brainy, team captain, both parents ministers, Class President, 35 reps, 6"3" 225 pounder is being stashed. Even if everyone else goes "who dat".
Burnett is not the problem. We need somebody to take Collins' place, and Peprah isn't it. Maybe one of the rooks from last year (M.D Jennings or Anthony Levine) develops, or we are counting on the improved rush to make up for the coverage flaws we had last year.
Never said Burnett was any problem. Read again - they must be counting on Burnett "arriving" this year to take #1 safety spot. Peprah and Collins were fine with a decent pass rush. Peprah and Burnett could be too if these rooks provide any rush.

Hey Ted you slacker, dial up an adequate replacement for your 3 time Pro Bowl safety Nick Collins...NOW!!!

This. CM3, Perry, Raji, Pickett, Worthy getting after the QB with Hayward taking the place of Bush in sub coverage. All this just improved Peprah.

Could not agree more with this. I'll throw Davon House into that mix as well. Nothing wrong with some competition in the defensive secondary.

And if we're looking for a safety, would not be surprised if TT has his eye on Justin Bethel from Presbyterian. Solid late round pick in a really weak FS class
