There's your rookie camp play of the day: Quinten Rollins steps in front of a Hundley pass for a would-be pick-six in 11 on 11.

He's the guy of the first 3 picks that I don't like as much.....so he'll be The One to turn into Nick Collins II

I still love the Montgomery pick but Rollins is super intriguing. All the guy does is take the football away. Deion Sanders was gushing about him at the combine. Freak athlete that's a natural football player.

A kid that excels at taking the ball away and Jay Cutler. He might set an NFL record with 11 takeaways his first game.

Randall will likely be in nickel and dime packages as he develops.  Pretty standard fare for a developing DB and a good use of his talents.  I actually think he could pull a Casey Hayward.

This whole draft was a gadget draft.  Rollins and Randall are obviously development guys at CB but their skill sets will likely help boost protecting the middle of the field.  There's not one guy out of this draft you look at and think they are immediately slated as a starter but realize MM is looking at all of them as a wrinkle.

Yeah I have the same hangup on Randall.  What gives me hope is that he can cover and no matter the position, guys that can cover will always be valuable.  The only hangup might be draft position.......as eventually he'll need to start to justify a first round pick.  I know I know, it shouldn't matter but it does.  You don't use a first round pick on a part time player.  It'll be interesting to not only see how Randall develops, but how he's used in this defense.

Back to Rollins, I'm very excited about watching him develop.  Seems like he has all the athletic ability, physicality and aggressiveness you could ever want in a DB.  And his ability to pick up the game of football in less than a year has me pretty excited.  I have to assume that Whitt is too.

It's been said before but Thompson has a pretty good eye for spotting defensive back talent.  Go all the way back to his Seattle days but he hasn't made a lot of mistakes with that position.   Hamlin,  Trufant, Collins, Shields, Hyde, Burnett, Dix, Hayward, etc. Thats an impressive list.

Rollins is all about draft and develop.  Not a lot of experience but huge upside.  That's where he reminds me of Collins and Shields.   The dude is a good athlete for sure but he has a nose for the football and great instincts and hand eye coordination.   Also plays with some swagger and edge ala Mike McKenzie

05/07/15: Matt Pawlowski on The Bill Michaels Show

What is the ability of Packers second round pick Quinten Rollins? Bill talks with Matt Pawlowski, the Defensive Coordinator/ LB Coach from Miami (Ohio). What is Rollins' character? How quick does he pick up on things after playing only a year of college football? Does he have good football instincts?

Of course, we want the top round(s) to be contributing immediately, but the beauty of it to me is neither of these guys need to be pressed into service immediately. That they may be able to watch and learn could prove invaluable as the season progresses.

I think Henry hit it on the head. Starting in nickle/dime packages likely provides their best opportunities to play to their strengths. Not to mention it may allow Dom to install/develop some more exotic alignments.

HHCD, Hyde, and Rollins ball-hawking in the secondary? Randall blitzing from a 'rover' position? Yes, please!

great article on Rollins background:

But Martin saw potential. He said Rollins was "one of the most elite athletes" he'd ever evaluated. Rollins mirrored receivers step for step like a point guard playing man-to-man defense. Each route was a full-court press.

At the end of one spring practice, Rollins lined up for red-zone drills.  In the end zone, Rollins covered Miami's top receiver one-on-one, defending a high fade route.

"He just beat the snot out of the kid and ran him out of bounds," Pawlowski said. "There was no room for the kid to catch it near the sideline."

Martin tested Rollins over and over. He lined four, five receivers against him. Each finished with the same result — blanket coverage, incomplete.

"Finally," Pawlowski said, "Chuck moved Quinten over to offense and brought in our second-best corner to go cover him. Throw the same fade route, Q goes up and catches the thing with one hand in the corner of the end zone. That's how we ended practice."

Giving this elite talent to Joe Whitt bodes well for his future in GB

"During Rollins' final season of basketball, a Baltimore Ravens scout called Cooper's director of basketball operations. The scout suggested Rollins give football another try. Cooper said he wasn't surprised someone wanted to see of Rollins still could play football."

I wonder how much that played in to him giving it another shot.

I think Williams is going to be a very good player.  He's got the pedigree and is physical and athletic.

I wouldn't have minded one bit had the Packers selected him ski u mah

Still, Rollins just has that "look" of being a big time sleeper given his ability and desire.  The Packers have a really good history of guys like Rollins coming into the program and stepping in and making a huge impact right away.  I will be really interested to see how he develops and it would not surprise me one bit if he ends up getting a lot of playing time this year

Funny, that's apparently similar to what he said about Jordy Nelson in the locker room a few months back, something about comparing to a specific type of bread. That is of course, if you choose to believe the rumors about Micah Hyde being a virulent racist, which I don't.
