Cutler will always be the Packer's whipping boy.
And just like that.., Rollins is an effing ball magnet.
Yeah, but Hundley's a bust.
This brings to mind the famous quote from Billy Jean King regarding rookie OTA practice.
Not everyone can win.
And just like that.., Rollins is an effing ball magnet.
He's the guy of the first 3 picks that I don't like as much.....so he'll be The One to turn into Nick Collins II
I still love the Montgomery pick but Rollins is super intriguing. All the guy does is take the football away. Deion Sanders was gushing about him at the combine. Freak athlete that's a natural football player.
A kid that excels at taking the ball away and Jay Cutler. He might set an NFL record with 11 takeaways his first game.
Hayward and Dix seem to know where the ball is going and they make a lot of plays. Rollins is another one.
This defensive backfield could be tucking crazy. Cue up the Bart Scott "can't wait" comment
I actually like Rollins the most amongst their picks. Think he has the most upside
Rollins and Montgomery were the ones I was most excited about. I especially tried to give Rollins to the Pack during FanSpeak season. Sadly, the biggest question mark in my mind is Randall. where will he fit in? Not a question I enjoy asking about a first round pick.
Randall will likely be in nickel and dime packages as he develops. Pretty standard fare for a developing DB and a good use of his talents. I actually think he could pull a Casey Hayward.
This whole draft was a gadget draft. Rollins and Randall are obviously development guys at CB but their skill sets will likely help boost protecting the middle of the field. There's not one guy out of this draft you look at and think they are immediately slated as a starter but realize MM is looking at all of them as a wrinkle.
Yeah I have the same hangup on Randall. What gives me hope is that he can cover and no matter the position, guys that can cover will always be valuable. The only hangup might be draft position.......as eventually he'll need to start to justify a first round pick. I know I know, it shouldn't matter but it does. You don't use a first round pick on a part time player. It'll be interesting to not only see how Randall develops, but how he's used in this defense.
Back to Rollins, I'm very excited about watching him develop. Seems like he has all the athletic ability, physicality and aggressiveness you could ever want in a DB. And his ability to pick up the game of football in less than a year has me pretty excited. I have to assume that Whitt is too.
Joe Whitt is a big reason to be optimistic about Randall and Rollins. He'll figure out where they fit best in Doms system and get them ready.
Kind of the exact opposite for Jake Ryan. Any discernible skills has has that translate to the NFL will be snuffed out in short order by Winston Moss.
Rollins is all about draft and develop. Not a lot of experience but huge upside. That's where he reminds me of Collins and Shields. The dude is a good athlete for sure but he has a nose for the football and great instincts and hand eye coordination. Also plays with some swagger and edge ala Mike McKenzie
If Randall is only serviceable, you could argue that in this thin a draft and taken at #30 that he's is really a second-round pick. I don't know if there's an excuse for Ryan, except Moss is his coach.

05/07/15: Matt Pawlowski on The Bill Michaels Show
What is the ability of Packers second round pick Quinten Rollins? Bill talks with Matt Pawlowski, the Defensive Coordinator/ LB Coach from Miami (Ohio). What is Rollins' character? How quick does he pick up on things after playing only a year of college football? Does he have good football instincts?

Of course, we want the top round(s) to be contributing immediately, but the beauty of it to me is neither of these guys need to be pressed into service immediately. That they may be able to watch and learn could prove invaluable as the season progresses.
I think Henry hit it on the head. Starting in nickle/dime packages likely provides their best opportunities to play to their strengths. Not to mention it may allow Dom to install/develop some more exotic alignments.
HHCD, Hyde, and Rollins ball-hawking in the secondary? Randall blitzing from a 'rover' position? Yes, please!

great article on Rollins background:
But Martin saw potential. He said Rollins was "one of the most elite athletes" he'd ever evaluated. Rollins mirrored receivers step for step like a point guard playing man-to-man defense. Each route was a full-court press.
At the end of one spring practice, Rollins lined up for red-zone drills. In the end zone, Rollins covered Miami's top receiver one-on-one, defending a high fade route.
"He just beat the snot out of the kid and ran him out of bounds," Pawlowski said. "There was no room for the kid to catch it near the sideline."
Martin tested Rollins over and over. He lined four, five receivers against him. Each finished with the same result â blanket coverage, incomplete.
"Finally," Pawlowski said, "Chuck moved Quinten over to offense and brought in our second-best corner to go cover him. Throw the same fade route, Q goes up and catches the thing with one hand in the corner of the end zone. That's how we ended practice."
Giving this elite talent to Joe Whitt bodes well for his future in GB
"'cause I'm the football guy...." - TT
"During Rollins' final season of basketball, a Baltimore Ravens scout called Cooper's director of basketball operations. The scout suggested Rollins give football another try. Cooper said he wasn't surprised someone wanted to see of Rollins still could play football."
I wonder how much that played in to him giving it another shot.
Dammit. I hate getting this excited during the offseason.
About time we get a player ahead of Ozzie.
I'm actually surprised they took Maxx Williams instead of Rollins (if he is so great).
Ozzie must've thought "We're the smartest FO in the league. He'll last until the 3rd."
Rumor has it, the Steelers wanted Maxx Williams too as he might be another Heath Miller (I don't believe he is)
I wouldn't have minded one bit had the Packers selected him ski u mah
Still, Rollins just has that "look" of being a big time sleeper given his ability and desire. The Packers have a really good history of guys like Rollins coming into the program and stepping in and making a huge impact right away. I will be really interested to see how he develops and it would not surprise me one bit if he ends up getting a lot of playing time this year
Micah Hyde is toast.
Between who gets injured and who isn't good enough, it will be interesting to see who they keep. But I tend to think Hyde is probably good unless there is a major surprise in the group of DBs (including safeties and CBs). And even at that it would not surprise me to see 3 DBs on the PS.
It's a running gag since the draft thread, GoL
Hyde ain't goin' nowhere
OK - got it. Thanks Boris.
Micah Hyde is toast.
Funny, that's apparently similar to what he said about Jordy Nelson in the locker room a few months back, something about comparing to a specific type of bread. That is of course, if you choose to believe the rumors about Micah Hyde being a virulent racist, which I don't.
Hey - I like slightly burnt bread - with the right amount of butter and jam - of course. Here I hope the reference is too teams the Packers will scorch on a weekly basis next season. Just sayin ...........
Skip 0:13-0:26. And then observe:
So your saying that GB drafted a thug?
Let's hope Rollins plays like Sherman, brags like Tramon...
Amen Sistah!
Skip 0:13-0:26. And then observe:
Watching that pass by Arod again, that was a bad pass. Davante had Sherman beat, but instead of throwing it to the outside shoulder where only Adams could catch it Arod threw it inside.
Ah well, nobody is perfect. Not even the MNP.
Wasn't that the play that the Linesman missed an obvious off-sides call on the defense?
Yes.
