I'm not opposed to Tom moving to Center but I think it's easier to find a league average center in the mid rounds than it is to find a Right Tackle.    You can probably get the kid from GA in 3rd or 4th round and he is 4th or 5th rated center in the draft.   How many tackles that teams pray will be as productive as Tom will come off the board before that?  15?

If we think we got a guy who can do what Tom did at RT, move him and upgrade.  If not, draft a center and tackle to groom.

If one of the hot-shot OL guys is available when the Packers pick, take him, even if it's the 1st or 2nd round.
We may need a RT if Tom does move to C, and if it's somebody that presents a challenge to Walker at LT, all the better.

Just like a team can never have enough good DBs, they can never have enough good OL.
And the Packers took a pretty big hit, moving on from Daktari and losing RJR and Yosh in FA. Nothing necessarily major, but it is time to restock the talent pool.

But we still have Newman...

Position flexibility is the #1 thing Packers look for in OL...that's why I think Bortolini from Bucky is rated very highly for them...probably more than most teams.

But his arms are so short at the next level he’s likely only a center.

I think the point being made though is that he would be, not an average center, but the best center in the league.

Would I take the best center in the league and an average right tackle? I’m not sure that I would. I think unless they can replace Tom with a good RT he needs to stay at RT. If they move Tom they need to draft a RT in rounds 1 or 2.

Does Tom want to switch to guard or center?  If he’s done well at RT (which he has) I’m sure he knows that tackles make more $$$$ than guards or centers.  If GB thinks he can be a HOF center, would they pay him like they will need to at RT?

Indeed.

From what I've read, the combo of Tom and JRJ was not very good in run blocking last year and some of Tom's limitations there would be lessened if he was playing center . Centers are generally smaller guys with lesser drive blocking skills - but they benefit from all the combo blocks with OGs.

So if you look at Tom's run blocking, he's not quite good enough to be a top RT on a run-focused team
( NFL teams are generally right-handed and run right more than left)
But he's plenty good enough to be an OC and smart enough to handle all the calls and his pass pro is beyond reproach

And yes, it would require the Packers to invest their 1st or 2nd on an OT to handle the RT spot. Fortunately, 2024 is a good year to find one of those guys and GB has had a fair amount of success with rookie OL playing well in year 1.

The important thing is this:
To be ready at any moment to sacrifice what you are -  for what you could become

He was on of the best RT's in the league though, not just average.

I guess you could look at it like Jenkins.  He can play well anywhere, but when healthy, he is a top 3 gurard.    If that is Tom at C, fine play him there, but we better at least have an avg tackle to replace him with.   Right now I don't know if we do.

That is an excellent point. He was better than just good at RT. I do think Satori makes a good counter. As good a pass blocker as he is, he might not be the run blocker the Packers are looking for to dominate in the run game.

Season doesn't start yet 😃

Wait until the draft is over....I'll bet we have someone then.

If they move Tom to C, I guess Myers just rides the pine??

Still can't believe Gutey didn't draft Creed Humphrey. 🤷‍♂️ Oh well....and especially after Justin Fields told us Myers was the best. Damn ewe Justin Fields!

If they shuffle the OL, Myers will compete with Sean Rhyan and a draft pick for the RG spot; and given his skills at OC...Myers would be the perfect IOL back up on Sundays.

Note:  The statute of limitations on bitching about Creed Humphrey expired 2 years ago. Gonna have to flag that comment and issue a  WARNING
