Overview

Runyan Jr. took over at left tackle for the Wolverines ahead of the 2018 season and struggled in the season opener at Notre Dame, but developed into an All-Big Ten performer by season’s end and did the same this past year. Offensive line coach Ed Warinner did a tremendous job with him as the unit as a whole, as evidenced by what they send to the NFL Draft this time around. Runyan was a steady college player, but does not project to be a Pro Bowler or stalwart like his father was. His football acumen and smarts on the field are by far the biggest positive to his game and that should wind up being something that at the very least gets him onto a preseason roster. It might take a slide inside to guard to crack an offensive line rotation at the next level, but his IQ and ability to offset some of his limitations by smart angles and decision making makes him draftable. He left a pretty strong impression at the end of the season by handling OSU edge rusher Chase Young (who will likely be a top-two pick) and keeping him out of the backfield mostly on his own.

So he's either better than his assessment or Chase Young is worse than his.

Smiled when I saw the pick of him as a kid with his dad, Eddie George & Steve McNair.

He's been around football his entire life & I know he's going to be a solid pro on the interior of the OL.

It would be great if he's as good as Dad. Absolute steal if that happens.

This is pretty interesting. Pundits already have Young in the HOF, so Jon Jr.’s going to be just fine.

Yeah his bio and his game definitely reads like a Tauscher style player. Unremarkable looking, measurables aren't perfect, but dammit he just gets the job done. Lane Taylor is another similar player. Lane isn't perfect and he wasn't an "ideal" prospect, but he's been able to get the job done. I think Runyan will be a starter down the road.

Given the imminent cap crunch for GB, I'd guess Billy Turner and his substantial contract are out after this season with Runyan, Madison, Stepaniak and others vying for the RG spot.

Thought he held up pretty well yesterday.

My kind of player.  No potential in sight just results.

Leeroy Jenkins is a franchise RT if they want him there.

His versatility is amazing. You don't see guys like that very often. Lucas Patrick also a very versatile guy in that he can play C or G...hell, I thought he was better at C last year than Linsley, although I gotta say, Linsley got stronger in the off-season...dude really held his own.

I think every unit on the offense improved in the off-season, but OL did the most. There was a reason our offense was so good yesterday, and it wasn't only because of 12, 17 and 33.

The O line unit played well but saying they are improved over last year is premature.   We lost Bulaga and were starting to journeymen at guard.

They played well this week and deserve kudos, but I wouldn't say they are improved.    Part of their success was Rodgers getting the ball out on schedule most of the day and another part was the Vikings missing one of their top pass rushers.

...and that's just looking at half of their job.   The run game was good, not great.

Read that his dad was giving him detailed technique notes on the snaps. With that kind of approach, I will bet he is a real asset as the year goes on. Also coaches said he was one of the most improved players in camp this year...

Got a call from my son after the game last night...he played D1 College Football and knows his stuff....asked if I noticed Runyan. Said Runyan looks really good already.

Amazing that he has played so well...as a rookie !!

The new "Bloodline" !!!!

Like what JR has done in his limited play this season. But let’s not anoint this guy as a starter yet. Not much film on him so players/DCs haven’t really had a chance to exploit any weaknesses.  And plenty of Packer draftees have been “the next great thing” only to fizzle.
