Micah freaking Abernathy! Talk about making a good first impression! Safety was an area of concern (in terms of depth) and this guy looks like the ticket.

Entire DL looks great. Some of the guys who get cut will get jobs elsewhere.

Love’s best game so far.

As far as I’m concerned, Goodson is better at RB than Taylor. Whether or not Goodson can block to protect #12 is a big question. (However Taylor did make a really good ST tackle).

Kiondre Thomas has made the team, imo.

ST coverage teams still need work.

Amari Rodgers. As a returner, he still looks to me like he’s gambling with house money. I don’t think he’s a returner. And I’m not convinced he’s in our top 6 WR’s either.

50% completion rate with 113 yards is a plus for you?   Bahahahahahahahaha

can't tell if you are kidding, but I thought he played much better last night, not perfect but made cleaner reads and hit alot of % plays for gainers...he could have been better, but I will take it, it was stacking performances in my book.  next week hope he's even better. and i would like to see 9 play with 87.

Still not sold on Love...I know an unpopular opinion. I saw some improvements, but I also saw the same old shit he's been doing for 3 years.

He showed some great pocket poise, he has figured out you don't always have to rocket the ball, his footwork appeared better at times. He improved in a few key areas from last week.

As the game wore on, his ball placement got worse. People want to talk about WR dropping balls...but what about the catches on poor throws they made to
"bail him out?" Two come to mind, one on the TD, one was here...a throw the Twitterverse seems to think is incredible:

I guess it doesn't matter it's behind Amari and he has to reach back and make a great catch.

No, he isn't throwing to the best WR on the squad...but he's standing behind the best OL, and he still gets spooked way too fast. He doesn't look poised most of the time, and he has a really bad habit of patting the ball as he's waiting for someone to get open. That may seem insignificant, but QB coaches usually correct that habit because if it causes a millisecond delay, it's a problem.

My biggest takeaway from the totality of Love's performances is nothing looks easy for him. He's got a strong arm, but the NFL is littered with guys who have those but never made it as a competent starter. Not once have I seen a play he made and said "wow, how did he do that?"

I get they don't want to shake the kid's confidence, but this Baghdad Bob treatment is getting old. I'd prefer a little honesty from his coaches about his shortcomings rather than the Little League dad treatment where nothing is his fault.

+: It's a win; No INTs; Goodson ran okay; Kaleb Jones was solid; Etling TD run; McDuffie playing a lot better than last year; Love was better than last week. Chris Slayton is a keeper. New hire Abernathy gets an INT. Signs of good things to come, from him???

-: WRs got to make those catches; some injuries occurred; STs kick coverage gave up a huge one. Tyler Davis is letting us, and himself, down.

And neither you or I know anything about the route or read on that play.  Just maybe, Rodgers rounded off his route and was supposed to sit it down sooner?  What I do know, is if that ball is in front of Amari, they would have been scraping his ass off the turf because he was going to be trucked.

Love showed improvement.   Try looking for that instead of perfection.   He may make it, he may not.  But you picked a pass poor example here.

You are definitely watching football for the first time. That is an amazing throw. If he throws it to the receivers body the DBs get a chance to challenge for that ball. That’s the type of ball placement prowess he didn’t show last week.

Fucking WRs need to do their jobs and catch NFL balls.

Love is clearly better than Hundley and Kizer. A lot better. Love hasn't had a lot of WOW plays yet, but some of the throws he's made those guys already are reads and ball placements those two never were able to do.

He's clearly a lot worse than Favre and Rodgers, but he shares that trait without about 1035 of the 1050 or so guys (list below) that have ever played QB in the NFL. When Rodgers got hurt in 2013 and Seneca Wallace and Tolzien replaced him I realized how spoiled we'd become because I was watching and noticing how much longer it took the ball to get to guys who looked open.

I don't see much difference between Love and Justin Fields or Trey Lance, for example. However, I'm not convinced those two are ever going to be future stars either.

The challenge is going to be the evaluation of whether he's worth a 20 million plus Year 5 option. He's definitely at least a lower tier starter or a good backup, but you can't afford to pay those guys 20 million.

Even though it was a complete fluke, that TD run by Danny Etling was really impressive.

As for Amari Rodgers, he does look a little bit overmatched as a pure WR/slot. He seems to be a decent returner and jet sweep guy which might be enough to keep him on the roster barely, but he definitely needs to show more as a WR/slot.

Keep Taylor and Goodson, let Goodson be the gadget guy and ditch Rodgers.

I thought McDuffie looked pretty decent and played his ass off.  Goodson played with a similar amount of burst and intensity.

While I don’t like the mistakes, it’s clear to me Doubs needs to see the field during the regular season.  He just has that β€œit” factor and can make plays.  More importantly, he finds a way to get open which (other than Davante) has killed this team in recent years.

This might be the deepest DL group we’ve had since the mid 90s.   Someone decent won’t make the team.

On the flip side,  yes Love played better but he’s also playing against backups so he should be making good reads and throws. I mean, if the ceiling for him is he’s a competent backup or borderline starter than I guess that’s fine.  But if Rodgers retired tomorrow he’s not ready to lead this team.  Perhaps he can make another step improvement but I just don’t see him as the QB of the future for this team.

I’m just as underwhelmed with Amari Rodgers.  Personally, if releasing Amari meant keeping Patrick Taylor or Winfree that’s an easy choice.

I have no confidence in Amari either when the games matter. I don't think they will but he needs to be cut asap.

Chime in as others have said about McDuffie and Abernathy looking impressive.

I also think Love looked much better. Passing the eyeball test and looking more comfortable and in rhythm even when none of the scrub wrs helped him out besides the td. If love played with the 1s I think he could do a solid job if needed

I had not seen his 4th pass in this clip (my stream was cutting out a lot). That is the best throw he's ever made as a Packer that I have seen. That was a "WOW" play. That was an Aaron Rodgers throw. But I'm no MENSA.

4 superb throws. If those are caught he is probably a whole lot better than 12-24 for 113. There is definitely an element on X4 who have not recovered from the emotional shock of seeing this kid drafted. Some serious intellectual dishonesty here.

Zero shits given about box score. Show me.

I defended the kid when he was drafted…because no one knows how good or bad kid is gonna be. My assessment has nothing behind it other than what I have seen with my own eyes, and in my own opinion. Never said he wasn’t gonna pan out, just said I haven’t seen it yet.

I’ve given JL props when I felt it was warranted. If that’s dishonest in your opinion. So be it.

Just got to watch the game today.  I thought Love looked a lot better than the last game.  He made some really nice throws, and some that should have been caught.  He actually has some really nice touch on deep passes.  His decision making was also solid.

D-line is looking really good, Chis Slaton looks like another good addition.  Wyatt needs some time and coaching, but it looks like they have the time.

It’s also going to be tough to make the team at linebacker, some really good depth there as well.  Once Quay can do more reacting and less thinking, he’s going to be another nice addition.  Not looking like a starter at this point though.  He is fast and a solid tackler, you just prefer it to be not 7 yards down the field.

in the secondary, I was really impressed with Thomas and Abernathy.  I think we have a couple keepers there.

Oh offensive line has a lot of young, talented depth.  Newman looks improved from last year.  Once Jenkins and Bak get back, this is going to be a killer line.  Good depth at running back with Goodson and Williams.

Doubs is going to be the #1 receiver in a couple years if he keeps improving and works on catching.  Maybe even next year, he’s certainly got the talent.  Didn’t see much to be excited about with the other receivers.  Rodgers looks faster this year, but he has a long way to go if we even keep him that long, which leads to…

Special teams.  Rodgers can’t seem to shake his bone-headed decisions, and he’s not a good enough returner even when he does catch it.  Coverage and return teams were meh.  Didn’t look much different from last year.  At least the kicking game looked good.

Overall, I’m really liking the look of this team.  We’re stacked with a lot of young talent.  Cuts are going to be very difficult.
