Would you do this trade??

Buffalo Bills Receive:

  • 2024 First Round Draft Pick
  • 2024 Third Round Draft Pick
  • 2024 Sixth Round Draft Pick

Green Bay Packers Receive:

  • WR Stefon Diggs

-----------

Supposedly Diggs wants out of Buffalo. Not certain how the contract numbers work.

Looking forward to seeing your responses

I wouldn't do it - first of all Diggs turns 30 later this year and I prefer to see what the current group of young WRs can develop into.

Also the Packers should keep their 2024 draft capital for a QB in case Love shows in 2023 he is not capable.

Hoping that Love has a good season and the 2024 draft picks can be used for S, DL, OG/C and RB (depending on Jones and Dillon contracts)

Hmmm ... Are you trolling your own site?

No chance. The guy appears to have about a 2 years shelf life wherever he goes. No room for him anyway. The packers are already going to lose a good WR unless they keep 7 or stash one on IR. I see Heath, DuBose, and Wicks competing for the 5 and 6 spots. They're all worth keeping.

Nope. The draft choice compensation is not the problem. Diggs is worth that in a vacuum. But the salary cap ramifications would be immense. Never overpay a 30 year old WR (Diggs is 30 this year). Never overpay a RB.

It's also not clear what Diggs really wants.

He's already one of the highest paid WRs in football. He just got a massive extension last year. He's top 5 in cash this year and over the next 2 years.

He was the most targeted WR in football in 2020, 5th most targets in 2021, and 4th most last year.

He plays with a Pro Bowl QB on a team with a realistic chance to win the Super Bowl.

What exactly does he want?

Hard pass. Malcontent. 30. Diva. I want to see what our young guys can do. From all looks of it, Doubs, Watson, Reed, and Musgrave are going to be something special. Toure, Heath, Kraft, and a young guy (plus stash another on either the PS or IR), are going to be a really solid group. I would not want to break them up. (I included the TEs because they're part of the pass-catchers.)

Another no from me.

Not saying anything new, just putting it a different way:
Diggs is all about Diggs.

He wants all the individual glory, but doesn't want to work within a team framework for it. The kind of guy who wouldn't show up for practices, but shows up for the games.

Nope. They're going to have five or six guys in the system all within two or three years of each other. Coaching them up will pay potentially big dividends in a year or two. Last thing this roster needs is a borderline malcontent who needs targets even if it doesn't help the team win games. Hard pass.

He's too expensive and old to give up a first rounder for.  Take out the first and I'd do it.  I'd bet you'll only get 2 seasons of Diggs' best before he falls off physically or becomes a three-time malcontent.

I'm a bit out of the loop on this one.  I know he's pissed at Allen and the Bills but any idea why?

Reader's Digest version:
Diggs got in Allen's face on the sidelines last year in the playoffs.
Somewhere along the way, Diggs also was bitching about "his role" in their offense, and wanted a voice in play calling(!).
Apparently, when he was informed that would NOT be happening, he promptly left OTAs.
He was back the next day after the coach talked to him, everybody kissed and made up, their media people put their spin on it, and that's where they are today.

I wouldn't do it for just the first alone,  yet to say a third and a sixth.  Everybody knows about the ego issues.  Setting that aside, he's definitely a talented WR but is simply not a fit for where this team is at right now.  2 years from now,  this is a different conversation (still most likely a no) but this team needs growers.

Never! I wouldn't want the head case anywhere near our young guys. It will be  tough enough to watch one, or more, of our young guys go the the PS, let alone signing a guy like Diggs who would, IMO, wreck the chemistry in our WR room. Also, why would we want to give up draft capital for an older WR, when we are moving towards a younger roster?

I'm also on the chemistry side and not wanting it wrecked, but I would worry more about what Diggs would do to Love's confidence than what he would do for the other WRs. Diggs would be after Love to throw him the ball, he's open on every play, and if it's a bad throw he'll get all dramatic, there's a chance he would undermine Love's leadership, etc. Love doesn't need that. Let Love and his receivers learn and grow from within and each other.

Forget the negative impact he'd have on the WR room, it's the damage he could do to a young QB like Love that would be the most negative impact. Having him bitching  to Love about not getting the ball would be worst thing.

I don't know, Diggs seemed to have a pretty positive impact on Allen.  Diggs' first year in Buffalo coincided with Allen's arrival as an elite QB in 2020 (in his third season, just like Love).  Could be a coincidence, but clearly Diggs didn't negatively affect Allen.  It was more likely the opposite.
