I really had my doubts about Small last season when he was up. I don't think his spring has gone very well, including today. "Prospect Ethan Small allowed four runs while walking three and registering just one out."
Crew vs. Diamondbacks today. Woodruff with no hits allowed thru 4 with 4 Ks. Brewers themselves have only 2 hits.
Woody had a bad 5th. A couple of doubles, a wild pitch and a throwing error by Contreras led to 3 runs. But the Crew came back when a double by Wiemer scored Contreras and a 2 run Yelich homer tied it. Woody came back and got thru the 6th with no damage. Looks like he is ready for the regular season. It also looks like Wiemer and Frelick will both be on the team on Opening Day .
Did any grass grow or paint dry?

I'm surprised the Brewers are keeping both prospects and starting their arbitration clocks. It's really what should be done but most teams don't Weimer is exactly what a team wants in RF. Really strange what's going on with Voit.
Brewers signed Luke Voit to a 1 year contract and an option for 2024. Huria was DFA so he is done as a Brewer for now. Also Frelick was sent to minor league camp but that means it appears Wiemer will be on the 26 man roster to begin the season. Toro was also sent to AAA so that means Brice Truang has also made the Opening Day 26. Looks like the young guys are taking over.
I thought Weimer was sent down also.
From an article on Wisconsin Sports Heroics: Sal Frelick is arguably the Brewersâ best outfield prospect. However, Christian Yelich and Garrett Mitchell are both left-handed hitting outfielders. Frelickâs current assignment may mean that right-handed hitting Joey Wiemer is going to make the Opening Day roster as well.

Keston Hiura is staying with the Brewers. He cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville.
I'm really surprised Hiura cleared waivers and glad the Brewers were able to keep him. Apparently, nobody figured he was worth his $2 mil contract. I haven't given up on this guy. He went from making very good contact to a strike out king in a couple years. I still think this guy can turn it around.

It depends on whether he's regressed from what he was capable of before or whether the MLB advanced scouts picked up on a weakness that he's never going to be able to fix.

Yep. Confirmed on Brewers.com today. Owen Miller, who can also play multiple positions got the last non pitcher roster spot. And Gus Varland either had to make the roster or be sent back to the Dodgers as a Rule 5 draft choice. Varland started hot this spring striking out 17 of the 1st 35 batters he faced.

I like to think the league adjusted and now he must. He did lower his leg kick and wasn't bad last year but he has no position. But he has a little bit of a soft ball swing that hurts him from making contact. He struck out 40% of the time last season up from 20% his rookie year. The best thing he can do is play LF at AAA on a regular basis and learn the position. He really can't play any infield position because of his size (1B), range (2B), or arm (3B).

Varland earned the spot. The Brewers made a couple adjustments when he came to camp and seems to improve daily. This is a guy I'd love to see be for real and become the 8th inning guy. For all the great stuff Bush has he can't keep the ball in the park.
