pretty sure i started this rumor a month ago.
I said a month ago that he would be a good free agent pick up. They might need to get him alot sooner. Alex Green is not an every down back.
It would also help if the OL created some lanes you know..once in a while. In a trade for him I'd assume STL would want at least a 3rd. Really don't know if Ted would say yes to that.
I'd say it's not out of the question if the Packers can get him for a 3rd, but I'm not going to hold my breath on it. Very unlikely, and the offensive line (Saturday in particular) is the biggest problem with this team's rushing attack.
I'd give up a 5th for him, but he has a LOT of milage and hasn't been durable lately.
3rd is way too high for a RB at Jackson's age. My guess is that TT would give up a 5th at the most
He's worth a 4th or 5th. he would really help this team this year, that's why I would consider a 4th.

I wouldn't mind if TT could get Chris Ivory from the Saints for a conditional/late round pick. He's only 24 and has put up some good numbers when given the carries. It seems like he's buried on the depth chart:

Williams still has years left on a pretty big contract. I don't see Ted making that kind of move.
Williams has a big, fat contract though. Would need to restructure or cut him after the season if they did trade for him.

And, FWIW, I don't think there's a RB in shining armor coming to save the day for us. Stranger things have happened, of course, but the odds of a mid-season switch suddenly making a significant impact are low.

All the factors at play make this really interesting with regards to Jackson/Williams

trade deadline tuesday means teams will get whatever they can while they can. Prices couldn't be lower. Even a seventh looks good if you have no plans for the guy next year and there's no market for the guy.
The Packers are clearly unhappy with what they're left with (signing of Benson)
No one knows if Benson will even be able to come back but they desperately want him to (IR return tag)
If ever there was a year to make a run it's this year. Woodson, Finley, Jennings could all be gone after this season.
Negatives are the money these guys make this year and it's questionable what Jackson has left.

I could see TT possibly making a move for Jackson, renting him for the rest of this season. DeAngelo Williams seems very unlikely with that monstrous contract.

I agree, tit, and would add that we need one who can get the 1st down on 3rd-and-1 or 3rd-and-2. Green got one today, and likely would've had a second if he didn't trip over Bulaga's feet/legs.

I don't know the answer but what's the cost to cut him after the season? DeAngelo may even be willing to renegotiate the thing to get out of there.
A guy like DeAngelo might be desperate to win a Superbowl after wallowing away his best years in Carolina. I think that's part of the reason Benson was so motivated and I'm not sure Williams would be all that different. RBs more than any other position know the deal about getting old and letting opportunity slip away.

I think Quarless would have to be almost bullet-proof before they let him play. Finley is a lost cause, Williams still a project, Crabtree a blocker. Quarless could be the best of them at this point but considering the severity of his leg injury, I think they will make darn sure he is healthy before putting him out there. They will really need Quarless next year when Finley is gone, 
so I'd hate to see them risk another injury to him this year.

Benson says he will be back after the 8 week stay on IR, and there doesn't seem to be any reports to the contrary. So, that is after week 12, after the Arizona, Detroit and Giants game. I don't see TT making a trade to rent a guy for three games if he also believes Benson will be back.
If you could draw a template for trades TT would ABSOLUTELY not make, this would be the foundation. He's not trading for an overpaid RB who's pushing 30. Not gonna happen. We saw that same thing two years ago, and dumdum Lynch was a lot younger and cheaper.
I liked what I saw from Jimmy Starks today. He just has that instinct that gets him four yards when there isn't much there. I agree that Green is a good third down back. He doesn't have the skill set to carry the mail, especially when he has a C in Saturday that makes Darryn Colledge look like Larry Allen in terms of run blocking.

TT will not make this trade unless we get a discount double check and SJax settles for something around vet minimum. Benson comes back in a few weeks and TT has a knack for drafting quality in the 3rd/4th round. Sitton, Lang, Burnett, House, etc come to mind
The last time GB spent a #1 pick on a RB was in 1987 with Brent Fullwood. In somewhat recent draft history, GB has taken Brandon Jackson (2007), LeShon Johnson (1994) and Darrell Thompson (1990) in the 2nd round.
Might be time to use a high pick on a running back at some point.

Other than Lattimore, there's no other RB that's worth the high pick.
