I didnโt have a strong feeling either way about who would win or who to root for. I felt experience of KC coming from behind could be deciding factor if they can survive early punch in mouth by Philly.
Watching Philly didnโt make me root for them, it was mostly a one man show. Mahomes wasnโt really MVP but gutted it out. Andy Reid and co. had masterful play calling, especially on the 2 w i d e o p e n TDS in 2nd half.
Thatโs what coaching looks like. ๐ฎ
I asked my friend to name any Philly players after the game, he knew the Kelse brother and an O lineman who was new to football ah, whatโs his name? I couldnโt remember anyone either.
But I like Reid, Mahomes, Kelce etc, so good for them.
Given Phillyโs penchant to go for it on 4th down and the fact that they seem to get 3 yards on every push play, they could have just done that over and over all game.

Feels a little like that year that the Packers abused the pick play to their advantage and the next year they changed the pick rules.
@Fandame posted:Good call, bad call, the better team on yesterday won. Philly was on a roll until Hurts just dropped the ball and gave KC a free TD. I have to hand it to KC, I thought the game was basically over at half, and that Philly would wear them down the rest of the way. It also shows that TOP is way overrated -- until you seal a SB win with a long drive at the end.
On a different note, does anyone else want to see that Philly formation for short yardage get outlawed? The three guys behind the QB and push? I think back to the Ice Bowl and when Mercein threw his arms up so he wouldn't even give the appearance of helping Starr across and think what Philly does sucks. Also, I already do not like the Philly coach's antics during a game; the posturizing, pointing, etc., is just ugly. Get off my turf.
When I saw Paycheck My Homes standing on the sideline smiling before the 2nd half I knew Philly was in trouble. Then when the Eagles had to settle for that FG I knew the game was over.
That QB sneak play is going to get someone hurt. All of that mass colliding and guys stepping on other guys. I can see a neck injury on the horizon. And to see 300lb. + Chris Jones just lifted up in the air and floating like a Chyna balloon was pretty freaky!
Pretty good article about the 'pushing' wedge formation. I know they want to simplify the official's life but I think they'll put the rule back in play next year

@MichiganPacker posted:There's also the fact that his deep speed does have an effect on how a defensive scheme is designed. Having a guy that can run a 4.3 and (at least occassionally) catch a home run opens things up for the TE underneath.
And as soon as Jermichael Finley comes back from injury we're gonna take full advantage of that.
i thought philly fans at the game were pricks for booing every single 'man of the year' and such...dicks.
We were talking about that push formation last night during the game. Honestly I never knew they lifted that ban back in 2005. Crazy to me that more teams haven't used it but I think having your franchise QB possibly getting hurt is why more teams don't do it.
prk north, No shocker that they were booing the NFL man of the year.
@MichiganPacker posted:Lots of QBs about to get paid too much. The problem isn't paying a guy like Mahomes or Burrow that much. It's paying guys like Cousins and Prescott 90% of what Mahomes gets.
The Packers aren't signing Cousins or Prescott.

I think most teams have decided repeatedly using your starting quarterback as a butt plug in a rugby scrum is not a wise allocation of resources.

If they don't outlaw it, you are going to see teams line up a couple of 270 pounders about 10 yards off and have them sprint full speed into the scrum from there to counter the push that the guys in the offensive backfield get from running from 5 yards behind Hurts and pushing him. A lot of the Eagles conversions are basically a slow motion movement forward.

The Packers should have just lined up Dillon as the QB and run that play. Although there is a big difference having Jason Kelce as your center.

I think this is a good point. If they don't outlaw it, there will probably be plenty of major injuries if more teams start using it. Rodgers would never do it (as witnessed by many, many times he carries out a QB sneak -- heavy sarcasm). All it would take is one guy at the bottom to have an arm or leg or, heaven forbid, a head turned the wrong way for it to become a major injury with thousands of pounds landing on him. At least in rugby it's not such a violent clash at the beginning of the scrum, and they aren't undercutting opponents to get to a ball carrier with 300-lb guys crashing down from the top.

Outlawed in 1894.
"In 1890, according to The New York Times, 23 players died on the football field. In 1891, it was 22, and in 1892, it was 26. Columbia, Wake Forest and several other schools imposed temporary bans on football, and President Grover Cleveland canceled the Army-Navy game."
Yet they won it all. Meaning the HC did a great job overcoming that.
"Over the regular season, the Chiefs earned a sub-60.0 PFF grade in run defense and tackling. They ranked 16th in the NFL in EPA allowed per run play and missed 69 tackles against the pass to lead the league."
If only Jalen Hurts had the field generalship to check "DRILL ALASKA!" on a couple of those plays he'd probably be Super Bowl MVP Champion right now.
If only Jalen Hurts didn't give KC a free 7 points
He wouldn't have fumbled on that play if he went all "DRILL ALASKA!" now would he have?
Maybe Hurts and his receivers should have spent four days bonding in a sensory-deprivation room.
The best part about the whole thing was that the DB admitted it was a penalty after the game, and said he was hoping the ref would overlook it. He got caught, fessed up, and hoped for mercy, which wasn't shown. So it goes.
