Just seven teams have ever made it back to the Super Bowl after losing the big game the previous season. And of those seven teams, only two won in their return to the Super Bowl -- the 1971 Dallas Cowboys and the 1972 Miami Dolphins.

The losing team in the Super Bowl has not returned to the big game in the subsequent season in 20 years

I like those odds

That was a stunning chokeâ€Ķin fact the greatest I have seen in my 55 years of lifeâ€Ķ..The game has been given to you by way of a miracleâ€Ķand instead of simply winning, you have to prove you are the smartest coaching staff ever to take the sidelinesâ€Ķso instead you loseâ€Ķ this loss becoming a huge part of your legacy and the history of the Seahawks...

Has Carroll thrown Bevell under the bus yet?

Has Bevell thrown Wilson under the bus yet?

The classlessness of the Seahawks at the end said so much----when you're winning you can be a$$holes, no one caresâ€Ķ.see also the 1985 Chicago Bearsâ€Ķwhen you're losingâ€Ķyou're just a$$holes

Seattle could have run it on second down, and called timeout.  They probably could have gotten two plays off quickly and still have the TO to use after third down.

That is true but I think that the Seahawks figured they would take an endzone shot to stop the clock and then regroup and run with the timeout in their pocket.  They didn't have much time to talk it over after the miracle catch.

All I know for sure is that Belichick would have been crucified for not calling the timeout if things had not ended up the way it did.  I'm so glad he didn't call it

It's hard to win a SB. Unless you cheat. Repeatedly.

Seattle wanted to **** its pants 14 days ago. GB wouldnt let them. So Seattle took the bull by the horns tonight.

Their D let Tom Brady walk down the field in the 4th and the Seattle fans would love to ask the DC WTF happened to the greatest defense in the last 30 years except he's packing for a flight to Atlanta to take a HC job.

Seattle is ****ED. Pete may be looking for an exit door.

I don't think that it is quite as rare. A few from memory...

Redskins in 86 lost to Giants, won SB next year.

49ers in 93, won it in 94.

Dallas in 94, won it in 95.

Packers in 95, won it in 96.

Eagles in 2003, lost in 2004.

Steelers in 2004, won it in 2005.

Patriots in 2006 and 2013

2011 49ers lost to Giants, made SB next year.

I think the bears lost to SF in 84.

Oh the pain... feel it Seahawks!  Worst coaching staff blunder ever.

Pete will NEVER have the chance to recover from this one.

Sadly, the best Team was not at the game tonight.

This is much much worse for Seattle. They're the defending champs. They celebrate their macho cockiness. They are on the 1 yard line. Destiny's children.

boom goes the dynamite

Dude, the guy's won 4 SB's...drove his team down for what proved to be the game winning TD drive with less than 6 minutes to go in the game

He's one of the all-time greats. Just hope Rodgers can win at least another SB before his career is up. Would feel like a disappointment if he only finishes with 1 IMO. You can call that being greedy, but when you have a QB like that...you should be greedy. No reason they shouldn't be contending/winning more than 1 SB with Rodgers behind center

I said before the game I hoped NE won by 40 points, then thought ya know what would be even better than that, if Seattle blew a lead late and choked it away at the end of the game. How sweet it is! We need gifs of Carroll the gum chewing smarmy asshole and d-bag Sherman's reactions to that int, I might need plastic surgery to get the smile off my face.

Yeah.  You're right.  Leading the team on 2 4th quarter TDs was downright pedestrian, really.

And Dan Quinn taking the HC job in Atlanta weeks ago is what it is.

Seattle is ****ED.

am i biased?

I feel better now.  Carroll - the genius, blew it, and I'm especially glad that Darrel Bevel lost. That jackass has had it in for GB since he went to the Vikes then lured #4 to the dark side.

As much as the Pats suck, I'm satisfied to see the seachickens in pain.

Perhaps Im bitter, but the best team did not win.   Pack beats both of these teams

Time to get lost in a book (one you hold in your hand)....and for 10K per SB ticket... it aint worth it.
