Obviously love the win, lots to clean up still on defense but very optimistic in that what a difference Ryan and Randall have made get Martinez back and growth from Lowery/Clark and the cabinet may not be that are for the next D.C.
On offense it's weird can't really get into rythm as trying to get the ball spread to too many guys. Problem is guys like Cook Rip Monty and Micheal look so productive in their limited touches that you want to get the ball to them in addition to Jordy Cobb and Adams.

It was an uneven effort with some wasted opportunities, but it was generally a solid effort. Rodgers still not hitting the plant and throws, still seemingly seeing ghosts. Took a lot of hits that way- almost like a step backward from the efficiency of last week. Then in the 4th quarter he got things together.
I don't think the D played as well as it shows on the scoreboard. Matthews seemed to be playing to not get hurt or whatever- is what it is I guess. But he made it through another game without re-injury, so that's positive. Pass rush did show up today, also positive. Secondary is improving... but next week we'all see more.
McCarthy just frustrates me. Hyper conservative sometimes, but then he breaks out that Janis run and I think it's still possible they can out-scheme someone.
Agreed on Janis play great call and even better execution.

+Gunter is coming on and looks to be #2 CB ahead of Rollins. Not sure if Rollins isn't 100 % or just plays better in slot but D spends a lot of time in nickel so better this trio (w Randall) than Hyde who I think was mostly in dime today. That said Rollins did have forced fumble on 1st Texans possession in tackle with Gunter.

-Special Teams gave up big returns but so did Houston, likely due to weather.

Not really. Gunter's lack of speed was helped by the slow track yesterday. He'll look better at home and @CHI than he will @DET. Like stated, Rollins is still hurt.
One thing that hasn't been talked about (unless it's earlier in this thread and I didn't see it) is how much of a difference it made to have Cobb back returning punts. The punt returns of 21 and 23 yards were huge in terms of field position. He just makes better decisions and sets up blockers better.
I never understood why some teams are so worried about getting a guy hurt on a punt return. Pittsburgh has Antonio Brown return them all the time. It's an opportunity 4-5 times a game to give one of your best players a shot in the open field.

Posi We won. Nelson looked good. Ryan played well despite being hurt. Janis! on end-around. Aaron none-the-worse hami on slippery field. MM's game plan looked good for a change (for everything but Stark run calls)
Negi Lions won. No running game (see above). Offense had slow start. The right side of Texans O-line was suspect (to my eyes) but we did not take advantage of it enough.

- I really believed 2 weeks ago that 8-8 would win the NFC North and the Pack would be in the mix because of that. I am pretty sure I am going to be "Rong" on that. Give the Lions credit, they won a game vs. the Saints I didn't count on them winning, I don't think they are going 8-8, they will end up with a winning record. The Pack is going to need a little bit of luck from this point and they'll need to win minimum 3 of the next 4. Even if they do win those 3 vs. Lions, Vikes, Bears, they'll need more help than I thought they would need from other teams.

Positives for the game? for the second week in a row I wasn't able to watch and they won. And right now any win is a good one because other teams are stumbling so if they put together a nice streak things could get interesting quickly for a playoff run.
Tony Dungy said last night our playoff hopes are in real trouble. He loves the Lions, especially what they're doing on defense. I find it fascinating that Stafford got better after he lost Megatron--probably forcing too many balls that way. He's spreading it around now and has some weapons.
Similar to how Favre got better without Sharpe.
Both Sharpe and Megatron enabled their QBs to play at a lower level than they were able to. Their games got better when they had to rely on themselves first.
Stat Paddford is having the exact same season he had last year. Statistically speaking two of his best seasons in the NFL. One with Calvin and one without.
What Im trying to say is Dungy is still a beady eyed moron. If everyone wants to keep on ignoring how good Jim Bob Cooter has been for Stat Paddford and the Lions offense I'm not sure what to say. That guy knows how to coach up an offense.
I think that with Favre it was more of a coincidence in timing of Sharpe getting injured at the time that Brett was maturing and getting better at a great many things. It would have been interesting to see the difference if they have been able to move forward together for a few more seasons. Robert Brooks was a fine player and talent, but Sharpe was on the cusp of a HOF career with another productive season or two.
Megatron and Stafford have been together a bit longer.
Cheeze, I agree with you. Favre was getting better whether Sharpe was there or not. His first full truly great season was 1995, but you could see in the 2nd half of 1994 that Favre had turned the corner even while Sharpe was there. That 2nd half of '94, man were they a devastating combination. You could also see Brooks emerging a bit that season as well and of course after Sharpe was gone, Brooks was ready to take over as the man.
The Vikings game at Minny in '94 was the turning point for Favre. When he got hurt in that game, Holmgren was almost ready to give up on him and go to Brunell who finished that game (which was a loss). Something in Holmgren's instinct told him to stick with Favre.... and literally from the next game onward, Favre was a completely different player. The 2nd half of '94 you could see what Favre was going to become which was the dominant player in the NFL for a 3 year period.

That's fine Dungy and other talking heads can say whatever they want to. All I care about is no one giving the Packers a chance and completely writing them off.
There are four games left with the Seahawks, Bears, Vikings and Lions. Three in the division and all NFC games. If they can find a way to beat Seattle? I am not holding out too much hope for that but if they can things could start lining up for them. Even if they have to face that juggernaut of a Lions defense.
