Just heard our favorite NFL Commissioner say that there is discussion that may lead to the elimination of the Extra Point after a touchdown is scored. Two ideas he said are:
- Just make a TD = 7 points
- Make a TD = 7 -OR- Have the option to run or pass for a PAT to make the total 8....BUT if the PAT attempt fails, the TD is reduced to 6 points
Roger said only 5 PATs were missed this season out of about 1700 TDs scored. Point being, the PAT is almost a worthless play that takes time and risks injuries.
Consider these ideas too:
- Move the PAT line back to the 15 yd line
- Give the defense 1 point on a blocked PAT
- Give the defense the opportunity to score 2 points on the blocked PAT returned to the opposite EZ and 3 points on a fumbled or interception PAT returned to the opposite EZ.
