Rodgers: Everyone has their own opinion
Rodgers: Everyone has their own opinion
Absolutely ridiculous and as BSPN says, there is no FAIR way to fix this since an apology doesn't do jack shi*.
Did it make us feel any better? NFLFU for sure.
And though it didn't impact the outcome of the 49er game, there were terrible gaffes against SF and GB that' shouldn't be ignored either.
Blandino indeed needs to get schit canned and a complete overhaul of officiating needs to happen. Beyond bullschit.
@AroundTheNFL: Blandino: โJudgment call on the field. Back judge felt it wasnโt overt. Thatโs why he didnโt call it on the field."
Oh really.
...he then added, "oh, and I was in Seattle. I want the 12th man to love me".
Back Judge tonight:
Pete spinning this like only he can.
Hes he's such a smarmy little **** stain.
Pete Carroll is a steaming pile. He lied in front of the national audience. Knocking it forward or backward? What BS. I knew he would piss me off! I am too stupid to learn.
I'm no Lions fan but the Replay Official upstairs should be fired immediately!
One job inside 2 minutes. Look at replay of every score and change of possession.
Clearly no Official took a look at entire play. FAIL!
So annoying when officials alter outcome of game with zero time to recover from their errors.
BSPN consulting with Jerry Austin? He was a terrible ref.
This evening isn't crazy enough. We need a Michael Bennett quote.
Curtis Crabtree@curtis_crabtree
Michael Bennett: "I don't like Matt Stafford much. He's from Dallas. They killed the President (JFK). ... I hold it against him."
Yeah, I'm not so sure Austin's interpretations of that rule are correct either.
The point was made about whether it was reviewable, and Austin commented that a change of possession had to occur "and it's clear a CoP took place".
How could Seattle have ever "possessed" the ball on that play?
Chilli...that's priceless!
The Bennett boys are bat **** crazy.

Pete Carroll admitted that the Seahawks caught a break on the game-changing play late in the fourth quarter. Seahawks LB K.J. Wright batted the Calvin Johnson fumble out of the back of the end zone, but the officials ruled a touchback for Seattle. "We were fortunate cheating." Carroll said.
For about 24 seconds. I thought Ray Lewis was going to straight murder Jerry Austin in front of 20 million viewers.
That would have been tonights cherry.

It was under 2 minutes. Therefore, reviewable.
Agreed. Perhaps BSPN can schedule human sacrifices at the hand of Ray after each MNF game
I think that Bennett quote broke Twitter.
How could we POSSIBLY know if Wright intentionally batted the ball? oh he told @BrianMFloyd http://t.co/5ARmfbTWQG pic.twitter.com/x30VZkCsiZ

Agreed. But how does the CoP ruling figure in?
I thought Austin said that 2 things had to occur. I didn't catch what the first one was (may very well be your point), and that the CoP had to occur.
Fail Mary and the Unholy Roller.
BTW, this occurred in the same end zone as the Fail Mary.
Apparently rules don't apply in this EZ.
Watch the replay closely, the one from the side of the end zone. Wright hits the ball out and the ref goes to grab the flag and decided not to throw it.
That bastard knew exactly what the rule was but was too chicken to call it. He should be fired immediately.
Wait, am I missing something? Isn't a touchback a change of possession?
Caldwell should have challenged it. Lions didn't throw the challenge flag. Bet they would have won. I hate the SEA team. Hate them. Both Wilson and Carroll with their BS smug responses in their pressers afterwards. Ripped the scab off. That ****er will not heal.
Unbelievable
Then that idiot Pete Carroll actually has the balls to rationalize the call - too funny
You only play 16 games and had Seattle lost this one that puts them at 1-3 and in serious trouble. Now at 2-2 they are in the mix as usual
There is no element of intent in the rule. You can't bat the ball in the endzone at all.

Lions couldn't challenge because it was under two minutes, if it weren't under two minutes and the Lions throw the challenge flag they could get penalized because that rule is not reviewable. What part if that don't you undretand?
From the NFL rule book, the stupid part
A fumble that goes forward and out of bounds will return to the fumbling team at the spot of the fumble unless the ball goes out of bounds in the opponentโs end zone. In this case, it is a touchback.
I don't now and never have understood why the difference in possession if the ball goes out of bounds versus out of the end zone.
I went to bed without a clue (like usual). You cannot make this stuff up with the no call. Our VP Ops is a Detroit fan. I'll have to turn the knife this morning despite the fact that I understand the pain. Even better that the Loins are no good at all.
Hate the Lions with a passion but they don't deserve that. Absolutely no excuse for that level of incompetence from the NFL officials.
just glad it didn't happen to us, and it better not happen again, that was horrifying and to the seahags, karma is a bi&*%$#
What would have happened had a penalty flag been thrown? Would the Lions have got the ball at the one?
Yes, YA.
I guess the big takeaway is the fumbling of the NFL with regards to their own rules. Again. This is a black eye on the league. Inconsequential for the Lions because they suck so bad, but there is no way SEA should benefit, and they did. Again.
The last time this happened, it forced the NFL to bring back the regular officials. Now what are they going to do?
No ability for the team to challenge within 2 min should have forced a review, and there was none. Did anyone hear Trent Dilfer say his hat was off to the back judge who failed/chose not to throw the flag? What a dope.
The league will issue an empty apology to Detroilet. And, that will be all. Makes me even more grateful for our win against those pricks. The righteous hurt for SEA will come with the all-full-of-themselves-hopeful-of-advancing-in-the-playoffs hags having to come back to Lambeau, and us laying a solid ass-whooping on them. Again.
Unfortunate for the Lions but this doesn't feel like the Fail Mary to me as Wright could have grabbed the ball or let it go out of bounds and Seattle still would of won. Don't get me wrong, I would have liked to see the penalty called and how the game would have played out but this call was not as egregious as the Fail Mary.
It doesn't feel as bad because it's not GB that got hosed by incompetence. But it's every bit as bad.
Wright could have grabbed it. He could have done nothing and let the ball go out on its own. 25 on the Lions was closing fast. The ball bounced up which is why Wright tapped it out instead of doing nothing.
When he did it's a penalty. Period. It's a penalty. NFL is letting refs use their own judgement on intent now? Where does that end? Did you intend to interfere? Did you intend to hold? Did you intend to hit someone high?
Intent should never matter. It's a penalty or it's not. What Wright did is a penalty. He shouldn't get a hall pass because he didn't understand what he could or couldn't do in that situation.
This was egregious, but not on the same level as the Fail Mary. It isn't clear to me that the ball would NOT have eventually gone out of the endzone let alone have a Lion recover it. KJ Wright tapped the ball out of the EZ. This is a technicality in the rule book, unlike calling the possession of the ball for the wrong person IMO.
