Others have mentioned how Capers used to come up with new and unique formations and how they don't see that out of him much recently. A lot of those formations came out in 2010 when he had Jenkins, Collins, and Woodson. The versatility of those guys, especially 2010 Woodson, allowed him to be creative. 2012 half-injured Woodson, no Jenkins, and Burnett forced him to be more conservative/traditional.
The 9ers loss was clearly the result of a talent gap, but Capers gets his share of the blame. We know the guy can still game plan and coach, because he was able to turn a 180 on run defense in just 6 days between Vikes games.

The fact that he was able to re-teach run discipline 101 and shut down an RB having the second best season of all time suggests he can still occasionally whip up some chicken salad from chicken ****.
I'd argue that regardless of who is under center for the Queens, the defense's MO doesn't change on first and second down. You have exactly one man you are worried about.

Even if Webb convinced them to bring the safeties up more or have the LBs disregarding passing responsibilities more than they would have with Ponder, you still saw better angles, better discipline and smarter tackling in the WC game.
C'mon B...Webb was as bad as a guy named Spurgynn (or whatever) years ago. I think the Pack would have won easily with Ponder at the helm but Webb's play gave them ZERO chance.

Like above said, the defense did play better. I suspect because Capers had some saved stuff up his sleeve.

Looking forward to the new stuff up that sleeve next season.

Me thinks that stuff is more like my grandma's kleenexs (God rest her soul).

No.

But, I do think the degree that any defense need not place emphasis on stopping one aspect of an offense, to that degree, it can emphasize stopping another aspect of an offense.

My point is not refuted by requiring Ponder = Unitas, it would need to be refuted by requiring Ponder is not >>>>> Webb.

I'm disappointed in our players & coaches to not adjust the entire game.

Isn't it funny how teams need to react to the Packers now?

It took the Green Bay Packers to make the Niners pull out all the stops

The Packers are a great team, difficult to defend, difficult to defeat & I'm proud of them.

We can question the talent all we want; and praise the opposing offenses all we want; but at a certain point when is it acceptable to question if Dom can adjust his schemes to be effective against these high powered offenses of today?

{sigh....}

Seriously. Give DOM every forty-niner defensive player & give Vic Fangio every Packer defensive player. What do you think would happen?
