When you're wondering why you're watching highlights of the playoff loss tomorrow and hearing quotes from the Giants you can look to Clay Matthews

quote:
"We picked the most inopportune time to play our worst ball. The fact is, [the Giants] didn't beat us; we beat ourselves. We need to play our best ball when it counts. This year, I expect us to be right back where we should be." continue
We all know they played some of their worst football of the season but he ends up looking like a douche and a sore loser when he says it. Clay should know better. This is the kind of stuff that the media loves to run with and sensationalize.

Go ahead. Let 'em sensationalize it and I don't care if anyone thinks he's a douche. The fact of the matter is if the Packers don't turn the ball over 100 times, the Giants have no shot to win that game. Even with the hail mary completion.

I want the entire team to remember that game & how crappy they played vs. an inferior team. That's right the Giants were an inferior team & they will be again on 11/25/2012.

When they destroy the Giants this year on November 25 in NY, all will be right in the world.

I think (hope) this team is pissed off & plays like it for 19-20 games this year

GO PACKERS!
The demons of these post-season losses to the Giants will not be exorcised until the Packers return the favor in the playoffs. Beating the Giants in a regular season game is not a difficult task.
Woodson's comments were really telling. The collapse of the offense against NY should not have been surprising after the tragedy with Philbin's son (a similar thing happened to Philadelphia's kicker in the playoffs the year before allowing GB to slip by). But the defense played like they did all season long--with complacency and a lack of urgency. McCarthy called it a lack of "confidence" but it looked a lot more like the kind of misplaced confidence players can get after winning a Super Bowl. And Woodson all but confirmed that. I hope the Giants game aches all season long. If the Packers want to get back to the Super Bowl they need to play with a chip on their shoulder and not a laurel wreath on their head.
I posted it at the time, but as poorly as GB played that day I'm not sure they would have beaten the Vikings much less the Giants.

You don't end up -3 or -4 in the TO ratio, give up a hail mary TD, and suffer multiple defensive breakdowns and expect to win.
The Hail Mary get's mentioned a lot.

I still get more upset over the handoff to Bradshaw the play before. NY was simply trying to run out the clock and get to the locker room.

25 yards, nobody touched him, and he was able to get out of bounds to set up the backbreaker.
The D wasn't good last year but look at the 2 SB teams. They had defenses that ranked 26th and 31st. The issue in that game was the uncharacteristic amount of turnovers by the offense. I believe the Packers had only 12 or 13 giveaways ALL SEASON, and then in that playoff game they had about 5 I believe. Obviously, a better D would have probably gotten some key stops after the offense turned it over, but who knows. You simply can't turn the ball over that many times in any game.

I couldn't care less what any Steeler says about the Super Bowl. The Packers were the better team that day too & they were minus Driver, Woodson & Shields for part of the game.

The Giants were the better team on that day because the Packers gave them the game. Behind closed doors, Giants players would admit it & say the same thing. The Giants didn't do anything special except play solid, fundamental football. Waiting for the other team to make a mistake. Sorry, that's not special, it's the Chicago Bears with Jim Miller at QB.

Yeah I've moved on too but I want the players to remember that game & not ever go there again.

They forced Kuhn to run up the back of his OL and fumble- that was some impressive voodoo football Big Grin

Clearly the Giants beat the Packers that day, and while GB could have done better, they didn't.

Don't let it happen again

"We beat ourselves" is the classic loser's lament. And how dare the Giants play solid, fundamental football.
I'd have to disagree with Boris. I don't think the Giants players believe the Packers gave it away anymore than the Packers think the Steelers gave it away by Roethlisberger throwing the pick to Nick and Mendenhall fumbling.

The Giants earned the win by not fumbling and not playing like crap. There's nothing for them to admit to. It's not their problem the Packers couldn't match their level of play. They did what they had to do to win the game.
Kansas City Chiefs beat them last season also, does anyone in their right mind believe the Packers who were the far superior team didnt lose the game by beating themselves rather than the Chiefs actually being good enough to beat them, its the same way for the loss to the Giants who almost didnt make the playoffs, had the Packers played some defense and caught those dropped passes the Giants were toast and I dont care how much Giants fans and Henry say thats BS talk.

Nothing worse than a player saying: we beat ourselves.

really? What's wrong with saying you didn't play up to your abilities?
I can think of a lot of worse things to say.

For example:
Saying you only played your last season for the money.
I think this is the second time CM3 has spoken out about that game. He's pissed about the loss and that's the way he feels about it.

He'll get called out for saying it. Good.

I'll enjoy watching him for the next 7 months with a little extra motivation.

That's bull****. Woulda, shoulda, coulda.
im not so sure it is bs,say your home and getting ready to make love to your wife, then you cant purform, what then, everybody has an off night, especially those of us who are great in bed,we sometimes have off days, the packers had an off day,its ok to say so,now i hafta go find my wife.
Green Bay lost. Clay has his thoughts on the game and felt like sharing them. Giants fans are going to have a field day calling him on it.

They are naturally going to forget Coughlin parading around a still picture of Jake Ballard after the 38-35 loss in NY last year telling anyone that would listen he was "sick to his stomach" after seeing it.
So many teams are so close to each other that you could say "we beat ourselves" almost any Sunday you lose. Many times it's only one or two plays that make or break a game. I'm glad the loss bothers him, but he needs to keep it out of the media.

That may be true, but it also sounds an awful lot like Mike Smith after the Packers walloped the Falcons in the playoffs.

Any Packer fan living in Minnesota the last 20 years or so can verify this.

Queens fans say it constantly. It's one of their cornerstone philosophies.

That's pretty much what I said & meant. I'd say we agree.

It's not "classic losers lament" It's the truth. The better team LOST. It happens.

If those 2 teams play 7 games, which team wins more? Green Bay or NY?
