I saw Aiyuk there and thought a SF guy must be writing this. Then, I saw Purdy there and all doubt vanished. Purdy? Really? He may get you through the regular season but he is overwhelmed, in the play offs. No way should he be on that list. I think Jordan Love should be there, somewhere, along with Xavier McKinney. Hell, you could have filled that list, just by naming any 5 of our WRs.

Purdy is a system QB who happens to have Deebo Samuel, McCaffrey, Kittle, and Aiyuk catching most of his passes. Purdy knows enough not to make mistakes but he's the equivalent of those Ohio State QBs the last decade where every throw they make is to a guy that's wide open.

Purdy does exactly what Shanahan tells him to do & he hits the open guy. As long as he continues doing that, he's going to be fine. He'll never be special but he's good enough to, at a minimum, get you there.

If you watched the 3 games in a row the Niners lost, they were close losses but their offense wasn't the same. Why? Because Deebo was out. Shanahan admitted, "You don't just plug-in someone else & replace Deebo" Deebo is the difference maker that makes the other 3 skill guys better.

I'm hopeful the Packers can replicate that with their 5 WR's plus 2 TE's AND Josh Jacobs.

Multiples....It's the key.

SF is going to have a very tough decision in a year or two when it's time to re-do Purdy's contract.  I can't see paying that guy 60 million a year because he's just not worth it....  But ya gotta have a QB too.  Not our problem though so fuck them.

There is a discussion of this (Purdy $) a few pages back.

Some other big names are coming up in the next couple years too.  Aiyuk has forced his way into the calculus as well.  They're offering him top $.

Lynch loaded up on a few blue chip FA's (thanks to Purdy's min. wage) that worked in getting them to the SB.  Purdy couldn't get them any further.  And the flip side of that strategy is they are a top heavy roster in talent and cap.  Unless this year's draft class develops quickly, they'll be in a tough spot very soon.

Forget where I heard it, but one of the national reporters was saying a lot of the GMs were pissed at the Lions for the contract they gave Aman Ra St. Brown. Thinking was before that, $30 million plus was reserved for the special of the special WRs and that contract opened up that level for the guys a step below. Also said ownership was pushing to get the contract done before the draft event there and it made the GM negotiate from a position of weakness to get the deal done.

Edit: Found it. It was Charles Robinson

I really don't think SF wants to trade Aiyuk but they might be forced to because of the salary he's asking for.

I don't see how he can go back to SF at this point, too much bad blood as he holds the entire team hostage to his demands. The other SF players are in his corner to a point - and I think we're pretty close to reaching that point.

The 9ers don't wanna pull their pants down all the way UNLESS he's going to accept and sign. But so far, he's not willing to commit to being a 49er even IF they meet his financial demands. So 9ers aren't upping their offer just to let him use it as a bargaining chip to get more $$ from Washington or Pitt.
