Going through the threads before trimming this month. Archive-able?
I'd say dump due the bedwetting bandwidth issues.

I love how logic is "stupid" when you don't agree with it. Ted is known for trading down. Ted traded up this year to select Clay Matthews, but let's be honest. He had to. Coming off a 14-4 season and running the team into the ground at 6-10... he had to make a "splash" and everyone knew he wouldnt in free agency. Other than that move, his track record is chalk full of trading down to acquire more picks (most of which are whiffs or stiffs). If it wasnt for the "perfect storm" in the draft that year which brought Rodgers nicely gift wrapped in our lap at 24 (let's face it.. if he was Ted's guy.. he would have 1. traded up for him earlier or 2. not played the I want to trade this pick game and wait till the last second) we would be in deep crap if the whole #4 saga played out the same way.
2005 was TT's first draft as a general manager, so how was he "known for trading down"back then ? And don't even bring up his time in Seattle, b/c there is no way you knew his trade habits during the 2005 draft.
And by your "logic", every single player drafted after the first pick of the draft would be gift wrapped for the team drafting them. By your "logic", every year GM's should trade the boat to get "their guy" in the first round. If they don't do that, then their player was brought to them gift wrapped. Sounds pretty stupid to me. I guess by your rationale Collins, Jennings, Woodson, Pickett, Raji and Finley were all gifts to TT from the rest of the league.
Do you just imagine TT and his staff throwing darts at a dartboard during the season when they make personnel decisions?
With gems posts like this and CU's wonderful reply......oh yes this is to the archives.
The Rodgers pick pissed bert off big time. He didnt want to take him under his wing and help him at all.
Rodgers turned out to be a great player.I think that a young QB that is not rushed into the starting lineup benefits from learning and watching. Would AR have turned out to be a pro bowl QB if he was a 49er and taking a beating physically and emotionally from the fans and press.
I think that bert taught him alot(by not helpng him)as he got to see a great QB play and practice and pick and choose what good and bad traits to use or loose. Then he had to wait to prove himself giving him some humility to go along with his confidence as well as gaining physical attributes through practice, weight lifting and QB camps.
He also learned what it is to be a good teamate by watching bert.

I know GoL. I think it's funny how many teams passed on the guy. The Vikes twice
Well, they knew Tarvaris Jackson was coming up the next year. They felt they could afford to be patient.

I think we have the final resting words for digger's headstone.

I give TT credit for taking him while Favre was still playing, but let's be honest...we are very fortunate that Rodgers fell to us. We are also fortunate that another team didn't present TT with a deal that he couldn't pass up, considering that Brandt says that the Packers were willing to listen.
Rodgers has developed into a hell of a QB. Honestly, given his age, I don't think that I would trade him for another QB in the league. Heck, I don't know if I would trade him for another player in the league.
In terms of a transition from a HOF QB to his heir, the only situation that compares is Montana to Young. And like the 49ers did with Young, I fully expect the Packers to win a Super Bowl with Rodgers...if not multiple Super Bowls.

The draft is full of these same scenarios year after year, decade after decade. Guys "fall" and every team has one two three four passes. Warren Sapp (due to alleged chronic chronic issues), Randy Moss (almost as many teams passed on him as AR), Brady (we know), Montana (heard that story too many times)..... Yes AR fell into TTs lap but nobody put a gun to his head to pull the trigger. Roddy White, Lofa Tatupu? Not sure who else the Packers would have taken in that position. Holy Crap Mike Nugent was a mid second round pick by the Jets?
