I admit my post is out of frustration, but maybe they seriously need to consider moving Braun. He isn't going to win anything here by himself unless he starts pitching too. A player of his caliber should be able to command a ton in return. It's only the end of May but they already look to be out of contention.
There were some positives in the game

Axford and Fiers didn't give up any runs

Segura continues to hit the ball like crazy

They came back from a 4-0 deficit

However, the story is getting a little old (another loss). I'm also wondering at what point they make a move with Weeks. 3 more strikeouts and he's hitting .179.

I'd also return Figaro back to the bullpen - not impressed with his effort

The value of WAR is often debated, but it really does point out what the problems are with the Brewers. For reference, the four MVP seasons by Brewer regulars ahve the following WAR for the whole year.

Braun 2011 7.4
Yount 1989 7.2
Yount 1982 9.8 (just points out how outstanding Yount was)
Fingers 1981 2.3 (short season and value of relievers)

If you take the WARs for this season (50 games) and extrapolate up to 162 games here's what you get for 2013

Braun 6.8
Segura 9.1
Gomez 9.4
Aoki 7.5
Lucroy -0.3
Betancourt -1.9
Gonzalez -3.2
Weeks -4.5

Axford -1.9
Henderson 2.6

Lohse 1.6
Gallardo -1.0
Estrada 0
Peralta -6.5
Burgos -1.9

Four guys playing at all-star levels as regulars, one average, three awful.

Two awful starting pitchers, three average.

On that note, the Brewers have 3 batters hit tonight. Including Segura on the hand.

It's the bottom of the eighth, your down 3 runs, you've lost 4 in a row, May has been a disaster....show some balls and nail Mauer. Show your players some fire.

After the double which put runners on 2nd and 3rd, they obviously pitched around Doumit to load the bases. You know you are going to pitch around him, why not just hit him? Again, a perfect time to show your guys you've got their back. Where's Ned when you need him?
They are 5-21 in May. That might be the worst month I can ever remember a Brewers team playing.

The problem is I don't see an end in sight. Weeks isn't going to all of a sudden start hitting well. Estrada isn't going to become a stud pitcher. Gonzales is who he is. Peralta and Burgos are in the tank. Gallardo seems to have lost it all together.

They seem to have settled in to the idea that they aren't very good so why even bother trying? I hate to suggest they've given up, but in the last week when I watch these guys play it sure looks that way at times.

While starting pitching has been horrible, that right side of the infield is atrocious at the plate. Understand that Morris is not doing well at nashville but how much worse would he be then what roenicke is sending out there?

Did you just pull that out of mid air?

Since coming back from a 7 day trip to the DL for a concussion on May 18th, Hunter Morris has been one of the hottest hitters in all of minor league baseball. In 12 games, Morris is batting .385 (15 for 39), has scored 8 runs, has 2 doubles, 6 home runs, 12 RBI, has walked 6 times against 9 strike outs. He's got a .467 OBP, an .897 SLG, and a 1.364 OPS in that span. He's second in all of AAA baseball with 10 home runs.

And (at as of the holiday weekend) Block noted they had the best bullpen ERA in the bigs in the month of May.

And because I've noticed a disturbing trend of only commenting on the Brewers when they are winning. Judging effort is a crap shoot. I don't think anyone can do it and be dead on. I always think it's as easy as starting pitching. Let me check stats and get back to you.

This horrible start rests almost entirely on the starting pitching IMO. Similar to last year when the pen put them in a hole they couldn't get out of.
