Hey it’s “burping” a new interpretation of a rule that just cost GB a game! Great job refs and even better NFL. There’s a reason stadiums aren’t full every weekend and this is just one example.
Tschmack posted:They ought to allow teams to challenge calls. Why not? We have all of this wonderful technology available and they leave it up to 60 year old guys that probably run 15 minute miles - and most likely have never actually played the game.
It’s really ruining the game and I can’t tell you how many fans around us yesterday were saying the same thing. All the penalties disrupt rhythm and flow and now you have guys like Matthews and Daniels unsure how to make football plays.
Sounds good, except for the fact that games would last forever as they already take too long to review plays. Having said that, reviews of RTP should be automatic, and not by the crew on the field.
NFL just released statement that the RTP call on Clay was correct and the it will be used and sent to teams as what not to do.
Wow just wow.
Get ready for more fans to bail
I can't wrap my head around that being a penalty.
- If he goes lower, it's a flag for hitting the QB's knees.
- If he goes higher, it's possible he slides up and hits the helmet.
- If he doesn't wrap up, he is at risk of not making the tackle.
What is he supposed to do exactly? I truly do not understand what they expect a player who is running full speed at a stationary target to do.
Remember when the NFL moved the KO up 5 yards so it would lead to more touchbacks only teams quickly figured out kicking it to the 5 reduced the return team chances of making it to the 20 leading to an increase in collisions the NFL thought they were reducing? So the NFL forced coverage guys to move up so they didn't have a running start?
If the NFL is sending Kendricks and Clay's RTP video out as what not to do. Here is what's going to happen, IMO.
NFL defensive coaches and players are going to make a business decision that if you are going to flag them for 15 yard penalties for making clean tackles then they are quickly going to make every attempt to fully compress a QB's sternum and put them out of commission for weeks for those 15 yards. Mostly in the 1st quarter.
The NFL thinking they can neuter built in instincts of defensive players they sell draft after draft and week after week. That road leads to a blank, dark place. If you are selling nothing but offense you become the Globetrotters.
When the NBA is king of everything in 5 years Gary Bettman will call Rodger and thank him for making everyone forget what a horrible job he did ****ing up the NHL.
...so, you can only wrap up around this midsection, not the legs? 6'10 and 300 pound QB's are about to become all the rage. They have a guy wrapped around him trying to wrestle him down, no tripping now, while he scans the field for 30 seconds.
Let's just play 500 and be done with it.
500 was the best.
No lifting the legs. Well that was an expensive lesson.
Why does it feel like Matthews just had to be the test case? It's like they can tell he never gets it.
I'm ready to move on. God I hate the Vikings.

Yeah .because of the backlash they're getting.

...and that's exactly why I'm done with this sport. I'm not being over-dramatic & if you don't believe me, just wait & see.
Everybody in the NFL can go f**k themselves.
Last year I said Premiere League and MLS would take over as the weekend’s most watched sport in the U.S. by 2030.
I’m changing my prediction to 2025.
Go Chelsea, by the way.
If you listened to Mike Golic (who actually played the game) this morning, he called CMs tackle a "text book tackle". He also posed the question "how are you supposed to tackle NFL?" He was upset. I am not doing so well myself over that game. I hear what you are saying Boris.
Cousins’ right leg was in the air from his follow-thru and he was leaning back after throwing a 50 yd pass. Anyone hitting him in that position is gonna lift his other leg off the ground. So ridiculous.
Scoop and lift? Where the FK was the lift? Am I blind? Looked at it numerous times. Can't see it. No fking way. Gosh I am hating the NFL. I am losing more passion for the game every year. I used to watch multiple games a week. Not anymore. NFL

I think it'll be the opposite, more like what we saw Daniel's do yesterday. Players don't want to get ejected. And QBs will start pushing it even more because they know they won't get creamed. Its gonna suck.
Bring back the in the grasp rule. Player wraps up, ref blows whistle, play over.
Everything coming out of the NFL office today is combo damage control & make things up as we go along along the lines of player discipline.
Im watching MNF because I love football. And I’ll keep watching. But the NFL does need to understand they’ve got real problems that smarter people than they currently have on the payroll need to solve.
Consistency. That’s all that’s needed here. Consistency!
Question about "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalties.
What do you call an visiting player jumping into the stands after a TD with only fans of home team in the area?
What is calling a timeout before a field goal? Strategy? Gamesmanship? It seems desperate and bush league to me...
ChilliJon posted:Consistency. That’s all that’s needed here. Consistency!
Holy crap it is the same exact tackle.
Pretty hard to get over it if they can’t be consistent.
Wow all over again.
Jesus NFL, get your sh*t together.
Holding. This was a holding call. Holding! He tries to cut Bak to clear an inside loop and Taylor gets called for holding?!?! The DE NEVER engages Bak and waits for that cut to happen. It’s a great sell. But. ****. HOLDING!?!?!?!?!
If betting on penalty calls was a thing in Vegas I’d set Corrente’s total penalties called this weekend at 5.5 and take the under. He’s going way under the radar for a few weeks.
I swear. If you took 7 Blue chip recruits at OL, DL, TE, S, and LB and let them ref a game you’d see the cleanest game you’ve ever seen called because they get every game within the game.
NFL plans to use the Matthews tape as a teaching example of what NOT TO DO! Someone tell Goodell fans are leaving because of the flag issue. But not the one he thinks. It’s the .yellow flag issue driving the fans away.

I’m shocked they let that one go, because beating the Patriots is often penalized.
Yep this is what will drive more fans to find other entertainment during the weekends. They want to make an example but they will never keep it consistent and what is worse is that this is not even reviewable.

Sorry, but the Badgers still aren't making the playoffs.
Oh trust me I completely agree. They also don't deserve any consideration for it either.

8 team play-off and do something to prevent all the 65-3 match-ups, then yes the order would look like it did 100 years ago when college ball was king.
Maybe they should have a "Fan's Replay" to overturn BS ref calls. Fans would have needed more than one flag to throw in this game!

Favre and Rodgers would jump into the air, when passing, to avoid a knee or ankle injury caused by their spikes catching the ground when being tackled. Cousins was in the air when Matthews hit him. Matthews was falling to the ground with his right arm around Cousins' waist .All the replays I've seen showed that. Matthews never lifted Cousins. The refs are rigging these games for the Dons at NFL HQ. This is something Don Barzini would approve of. He didn't make a football move after the catch is pure Tataglia family. These games aren't fun anymore. It's all business.

Good for them. NFL as a brand is really turning down a dark path if they dig in further on the CM3 hit.

Too logical. Can't manipulate the outcome of games that way.
Maybe I'm being overly skeptical, but I cant believe some of these calls are simply poor officiating. Some of the calls made/not made on Sunday were pretty routine...like the non PI on Graham. His arms were raked as the ball is arriving. Was the ref out of position not to see what a high school ref sees as an easy call ?

Boomer Esiason just mentioned them in his update. His final sentence was that was not roughing the passer.

Me too, I would like to hear what he was doing/thinking.
And The play where Barr chased AR for about 5 yds when he was running out of bounds. He did not hit him, he could have, last year he would have. He did prevent him from gaining more yds by gently pushing him out of bounds. To me that was the Rodgers rule in action. And what the league expected and schooled the players to do. Well done by all.
Yeah he did. He thought the play was dead, in the grasp scenario I believe. Also, Remmers was all over him so if he shifted to go after Cousins he would've fell into him, which he thought would've drew a penalty.
As far as I know, the in the grasp rule was removed years ago. Or they just decided to "de-emphasize" it. Can't remember the last time I saw it called.
Here's the Daniels play. NFL is creating a huge mess that ultimately they'll have to clean up.
This may be a stupid question. But why didn't he just keep him wrapped up? Didn't have to take him to the ground, didn't look like his momentum was headed that way. That looked like what you do in a scrimmage or walk-thru.
DH13 posted:As far as I know, the in the grasp rule was removed years ago. Or they just decided to "de-emphasize" it. Can't remember the last time I saw it called.
He wasn't specifically referencing in the grasp. More like Cousins stopped moving and Remmers, Daniels and Cousins were piling up. Daniels thought the ball was gone or the play was dead and definitely wasn't going to risk a penalty with Remmers draped all over him. So in essence, Cousins played inadvertent possum and since everyone is afraid to hit the QB now Cousins just started running again when he didn't hear a whistle.
