Notes:

Uncle, Johnny Rodgers, was the 1972 Heisman Trophy winner as a Nebraska running back before being selected in the first round by the Chargers and opting to play in the CFL. Cousin, Bobby Newcome, played quarterback for the Cornhuskers (1997-2000). Moss prepped in South Dakota, where he was an all-state performer in basketball and football and placed in the long jump at the state track and field championships. Played basketball for four years (averaged 7.6 rebounds and 4.5 rebounds as a senior starter) before exhausting his eligibility on the football field β€” started 9-of-11 games in 2011, totaling 61 receptions for 949 yards (15.6-yard average) and six touchdowns.

Summary:

Four-year hoopster who parlayed one season of football into an NFL opportunity. Raised eyebrows at his pro day, where he looked explosive (41Β½-inch vertical leap, broad jump of 10 feet 10 inches) and scorched a 6.35-second 3-cone drill, one of the quickest ever recorded. Has a basketball physique and needs to get stronger, but has intriguing length β€” has good height, long arms and large hands β€” and room to bulk up (could play closer to 230 pounds down the road). Is surprisingly aggressive attacking the ball and snatching throws with his hands, and shows body control and hand-eye coordination to win in the air. Draftable on size-speed ratio and developmental upside as a West Coast receiver and red-zone target

Notes:

Two-way lineman who also played basketball as a Pennsylvania prep. Redshirted in 2007. Backed up at tackle and guard in ’08, seeing action in all 13 games with one start. Suffered a broken left fibula and ligament damage in his ankle during the ’09 spring game but had surgery and healed in time to start all 13 games at left tackle, posting a team-high 15 β€œthunderbolt” blocks and 64 knockdowns. Started all 13 games at the OLT spot in ’10 and recorded six β€œthunderbolts” and 45 knockdowns. Had postseason surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and sat out ’11 spring practice. Made all 13 starts at left tackle in the fall. Team captain.

Brooks:

Notes:

Born in Zweibrucken, Germany. Two-way lineman who was one of Virginia’s best shot putters as a prep. Redshirted in 2007 and saw action in three games as a true freshman in ’08, including his first career start in the Orange Bowl. Started all 41 games at right guard over his final three seasons β€” 13 in ’09, 14 in ’10 and 14 in ’11.

Positives:

Has natural leverage. Gets into blocks urgently. Sound hand placement and short-area lateral movement. Bends at the knees and moves his feet to stay in the way. Can work his hips and position himself to seal. Agile enough to short-pull and is efficient to the second level. Aware to see and react. Competes and gives consistent effort. Plays with some nasty and likes to finish. Tough and durable. Experienced, three-year starter.

Negatives:

Lacks ideal height and has pedestrian length. Plays short-armed and does not use his hands violently. Average base strength and body control β€” could stand to improve sustain. Occasionally lets his pads rise and negates his power. Does not generate explosion through his lower body/hips to reestablish the line in the run game. Is at a disadvantage when facing size/power (struggled matching up with North Carolina DE Quinton Coples). Split time with younger players.

Summary:

Adequate-sized, thick-bodied, competitive zone blocker who’s at his best when he bends, plays with leverage and is able to seal and work angles. Has the temperament, smarts, experience and functional strength to stick and could potentially move to center.

Notes:

Also participated in basketball and track as an Alabama prep. Was one of only three true freshmen to see action in 2008, appearing in all 13 games as a backup safety and recording 11-0-0 with a fumble recovered in the endzone in the Music City Bowl. Started 10-of-12 games in which he played at free safety in ’09, posting 84-2-0 with 4 1⁄2 tackles for loss and one forced fumble. Suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb against Mississippi State and underwent surgery, limiting his action the next two weeks against Rice and Mississippi. Led the team in tackles in ’10 after recording 99-5-0 with seven tackles for loss and 1 1/2 sacks in 12 starts at free safety. In ’11, started all 13 games at strong safety and logged 63-3-1 with 6 1⁄2 tackles for loss and two sacks.

Positives:

Looks the part with terrific size and a long, muscular build. Demonstrated strength and explosion at the Combine β€” bench-pressed 225 pounds 22 times (tops among strong safeties), posted a 381⁄2-inch vertical leap and broad jumped 10 feet 8 inches. Runs well β€” covers ground with gaping strides and can really turn it on in chase mode. Flashes ball skills. Tough, durable, three-year starter.

Negatives:

Does not play to measurables. Average instincts and anticipation (limits range). Takes some questionable angles in pursuit and gets hung up in traffic. Soft-shouldered in run support. Inconsistent tackler β€” does not arrive under control or square up ballcarriers and leaks yards. Pedals tall and hip stiffness shows in transition.

Summary:

Straight-linish, see-and-go reactor lacking starter-caliber instincts and tackling ability. Is not as dependable or impactful as his measurables suggest. Raw size and speed give him a chance to convince a team he’s worth developing, but will have to prove his mettle on special teams.

Per a source...wait no, it's still Twitter, #Packers have signed Iowa State wide receiver Darius Reynolds

quote:
Summary:

Junior-college product who did not emerge and produce until senior season, but gained more than 16 yards yards per catch and displayed some playmaking ability β€” has strength to combat the jam, shows a sizable catching radius and makes contested grabs, though too many are just that. Could catch on as a reserve flanker in a West Coast system if he's able to contribute on special teams.
quote:

@joeyrkaufman USC RB Marc Tyler to sign with the Green Bay #Packers, per his Twitter account (@M_Tyler26).

quote:

Notes:

Has a daughter. His father, Wendell Tyler, was a Pro Bowl running back with the Los Angeles Rams (1977-82) and the San Francisco 49ers (1983-86). Marc earned Parade All-America honors and was named the 2006 Gatorade Player of the Year after playing running back and linebacker at Oaks Christian High School in California. Redshirted in ’07 while still recovering from a broken left leg suffered during his senior season. Appeared in eight games as a backup in ’08, rushing 36 times for 198 yards (5.5-yard average) and one touchdown. Also had a 10-yard touchdown catch. Missed three games with a strained right hip/groin. Played in only one game in ’09, posting 5-72-1 (14.4). Sprained his right big toe prior to Week Two and missed the rest of the season after undergoing surgery. Led the Trojans in rushing in ’10 with 171-913-9 (5.3) and caught 17 passes for 127 yards (7.5-yard average) and one touchdown in 13 games (eight starts). Missed most of ’11 spring practice with a strained hamstring. Was suspended for the season opener and underwent counseling because of his involvement in three alcohol-related incidents: allegedly spat on a female student while intoxicated in April; allegedly touched a female student inappropriately while intoxicated later that month; and made inappropriate comments to a TMZ television camera in July. On the season, started 6-of-10 games in which he played, rushing 122-568-4 (4.7) and catching 11-108-0 (9.8). Dislocated his left shoulder against California, aggravated the injury on his only carry against Stanford and sat out the Colorado contest. Has three career fumbles in 364 career touches, gaining 5.2 yards per carry. Did not run shuttles at the Combine because of a left quad strain.

Positives:

Excellent size β€” well-proportioned with bulk for the position. Good feet for a bigger back. Runs hard and can power through tackles when he runs behind his pads. Dependable receiver β€” makes himself available, has reliable hands and adjusts to throws. Effective running screens. Shows awareness and aggression as a blocker. Good football smarts. Has NFL pedigree.

Negatives:

Ordinary quickness to the hole. Average vision and instincts. Builds to below-average speed. Runs upright. Tight hips β€” not fluid in the open field. Gathers to cut and does not stop and start smoothly. Runs smaller than his size β€” not a great tackle breaker and goes down too easily for a 230-pounder. Inconsistent blocker. Leaves some yards on the field. Bench-pressed 225 pounds only 19 times at the Combine and has a 301⁄2-inch vertical jump. Has been dinged and durability could be an issue. Was never the featured back at USC. Is immature and character needs to be examined.

Summary:

Big back with good feet and enough veer to run between the tackles, though he never seemed to thrive or stay on track at USC because of competition, inconsistency, injuries and immaturity. Size and receiving ability will give him a chance to earn a job in the league, but he will have to prove he can stay healthy and check his sense of entitlement at the door.

More as seen on Twitter: #Packers have signed Minnesota TE Eric Lair. Was a 1,000-yard receiver for me on NCAA 12 this past year

quote:

Notes:

Was a three-year varsity starter as a Texas prep. Contributed as a backup tight end and special-teams player in 12 games in 2008 but did not record any statistics. Saw action in eight games as a backup in ’09, catching one pass for 12 yards and rushing once for eight yards. Started 11-of-12 games at tight end in ’10, grabbing 39 passes for 526 yards (13.5-yard average) and two touchdowns. Caught 11-168-1 (15.3) in 12 games in ’11, making three starts as the No. 2 tight end.

Positives:

Well-proportioned, muscular build. Good initial quickness and is flexible off the line to get into routes cleanly. Runs well and covers ground with a fluid stride. Nice bend and balance. Good, confident hands to catch outside his frame. Tracks well over his shoulder. Excellent leaping ability. Solid character.

Negatives:

Weak, non-physical blocker β€” limited bulk and base strength to survive in line. Struggles to fit on linebackers and adjust to movement. Does not show much wiggle or strength after the catch. Ordinary production. Has been dinged up and durability could be an issue. Might need extra reps before he gets it. Is still learning what it means to adopt a professional work ethic.

Summary:

Undersized, finesse, developmental H-back who was underutilized at Minnesota amidst a poor supporting cast. Has physical tools to work with but must prove he possesses the requisite motivation, competitiveness and toughness to succeed.

Former Colorado State RB Raymond Carter said he's reached a free-agent deal with the Green Bay Packers. #csu

Notes:

Highly recruited out of Los Angeles, where he was also a standout sprinter. Sat out the 2007 season at UCLA after tearing his right ACL in fall camp. In ’08, managed just 25 rushes for 29 yards (1.2-yard average) and a touchdown in seven games. Bruised his knee against Brigham Young and missed two games, then injured his groin against Washington State and missed three more games. Sat out the ’09 season per NCAA transfer rules. At Colorado State in ’10, started 5-of-8 games in which he played and rushed 65-235-1 (3.6). Added 15 receptions for 163 yards (10.9). Sprained his right knee against TCU and missed three games, then missed the season finale against Wyoming because of a separate injury to the same knee. Started 7-of-12 games in ’11, carrying 121-584-4 (4.8) and catching 15-138-1 (9.2).

Summary:

A UCLA transfer who doubled as a track sprinter, Carter is a high-cut, upright slasher who elevated his visibility at the Colorado State pro day, where he ran in the mid 4.4s, posted a 36Β½-inch vertical jump and bench-pressed 225 pounds 26 times. Has NFL size and speed and good hands out of the backfield (see Idaho 2010, TCU 2011) though he builds up and shows average agility. Carried just 211 times in college, as he missed two full seasons to injury (torn ACL) and transfer.
