The Canadians are friggin loaded. I don't think they're done just yet. It would be cool if the Americans met the Canadians in the gold medal game. Russia and Finland will be right there too.
I remember watching the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics as an 8-year old. Started an awareness and passion for sports. Eric Heiden and the Miracle on Ice, amazing.

Last night's game rekindled some of that awe from 1980 for me. Will be fun to watch how all the teams respond in the Medal Round.

They need to get Al Michael's to call the Gold Medal game is US makes it.

If the guy on NBC is right. The russkies and canucks are going to end up playing each other in the quarter final(as long as there isn't another upset). So one of the big two is going to end up going home with NOTHING. That's how big that game was last night.

USA! USA! USA!

Young pros vs. old pros...big difference between 1980 and this game.

It was nice for Team USA, but if they run into Canada again, or a much more physical Russian goon squad, it could be a different outcome.

Canada lost to Belarus in pool play in 2002 and went on to win the gold. Winning your pool gets you an extra day of rest, and perhaps an easier road to the medal rounds, however, since the infusion of NHL players, it has turned the Olympic game into one that any team can win on any night.

No way I thought Brodeur would give up 4 goals to the US.

Also, Team USA needs to get the puck out if it's end of the ice more often...Ryan Miller deserves a feaking medal for his performance last night given how many shots he had to endure. Not sure how many of those games he's got left in him.

They'll have to get through both Russia and Sweden.

It was a GREAT hockey game, but it still doesn't compare to 1980 (and nothing ever will with the pros involved).

I dont recall stating it was. Confused I know damn well were I was for the 80 game USSR-USA game. I think that day deserves it's own thread.
One thing in our favor is a hot goalie in the crease. Not to say that Miller can keep up that performance, but it bodes well. Now if only they could keep the puck on the other side of the rink, we'd be in business.
Unreal hockey game. It was a great win for USA hockey. I'm in agreement with Foo though. If it weren't for outstanding play by Miller Time, that game ends much differently. Miller was brilliant.

This Canadian team isn't don't yet... at all.

And I don't recall stating that you did.

The last part was just my take on it.

The reason I quoted your post was because you brought up what the Canadian path to Gold could be.
I think Canada is seeded to play Russia in the quarterfinal.

And yes, I too would like to see Ovechkin hit Sid the Twit the way he hit Jagr. Ovechkin would be getting 100 times the coverage he does now if he were Canadian.
For pairing purposes, the win for Team USA was freaking HUGE! Assuming the Canucks beat Germany tonight, they will have to face Russia and Sweden back-back and if they make the gold medal game it would be 3 games in 4 days. Needless to say, the Canucks have a tough row to hoe.

Should be a great womens gold medal game, too. Those gals can really skate.

Yeah, I see it can't be Canada vs Russia for the Gold. Only one will survive to get that far. That's ok, a hit by Ovie in the semis is just as good.

This will all make the remaining games between the Caps and the Pens pretty interesting!! Malkin would probably like to be playing the rest of the year with Ovie than Syd

USA 2, Switzerland 0. On to the semis against the Czechs or the Fins. I hope to get done working early enough to watch Canada/Russia. One of those teams is going home in shame. Keep it up, Yanks.

Agreed. It's no secret how loaded the host team is but it's not like the US roster's full of scrubs...and w/ a hot goalie it doesn't matter.

The Czech-Fin game was fantastic...
Canada came out PI$$ED!!! Holy crap they put it to the Russkies!

AND Canada lucked out with the Slovaks knocking off the Swedes...they might as well just punch their ticky for the gold medal game. I would be stunned if Slovaks lose by less than 3 goals.
