UW's Montee Ball attacked on campus

500 block of University, that should not be a dangerous area. Maybe a bit decadent, but not jumped-by-stangers dangerous, even at 2 AM.

WTF is happening at my Alma Mater? 2 a.m is when everyone goes for Gyros w/fries at Parthenon's (unless you were a Zorba's person).

Sounds like this isn't an isolated incident; they've been having trouble in the area lately, but this is only now a big issue since Montee was attacked.

This happens all too frequently in Madison now. Some of these attacks make the papers (especially when the victim is Montee Ball), most don't. Unfortunately, gang activity has infested the State St, University Ave, Campus area and have made it much less safe than it used to be. A few weeks ago shots were fired into a crowd outside the bars at Univ. and Frances (Johnny O's). No one dead, but 4 or 5 people were hit w/bullets.

That "Best Place to Live" thing is long gone.

Happened to my buddy a few years back, got jumped by 5 racism sucks dudes at bar time afterwards. No reason, never talked to them in the bar.. never saw them. Broke several of his ribs and a concussion. His roommate had several rib fractures, a broken jaw, and a fractured skull.

The areas south of campus are getting pretty bad. Murder rate has doubled since I was there pre-2003. I still visit alot for games and such.

How is it racist to say 5 mexicans jumped my friends?

The "hispanic" and "african-american" populations have grown in Madison and have led to a higher rate of crime concentrated normally in different areas of the city other than downtown. It's more concentrated on the south side of town.

To say 5 mexican dudes jumped my friends is what happened and inevitably they were charged with the crimes. The overt PC police here is crazy. If it were 5 white dudes... no problem saying that. But 5 mexicans or hispanic/latino dudes, oh my gosh... censor!

No mention of race of these men (to be politically correct).

Interesting they chose the number 10 instead of 11 to jump. That brings up an interesting question, who decided that 11 is the number of players on each side? 5 makes some sense in hoops. 9 definitely in baseball. Let's discuss. Or not.

Of course it matters, inevitably it is part of fixing the problem, for the good. Ignoring who and why wont get society anywhere. If this is gang-related, and I stress if... Madison has to be proactive and make sure the influx of this type of activity does not occur again.

Targeting anyone, much less a (black) kid who is going to be the toast of Wisconsin this year... is a shame.
