Was trying to think of a comparison for Lazard....  he's maybe a little bit like old Denver Broncos receiver Ed McCaffery.   McCaffery was cut by the Giants, then turned into a very good #2 WR for a run based Broncos team.  Lazard blocks like McCaffery did and he's athletic enough to get open despite not having great speed.

Lazard was huge tonight vs. a good Saints secondary.

It's early and there's a long ways to go, but this is the best looking Packers' team since 2014.  They aren't having as much luck health wise as they did in 2019, but they are a better team if they can keep most of their guys healthy.

Did anyone else think Summers outplayed Barnes and Kirksey? Seemed a lot more active back there. I even saw Burkes make a few good plays, especially at the end covering Kamara.

DL depth is rough. Lancaster is a fringe roster guy who is a starter. Lowry is a bench guy who is a starter. Adams had the best game of his career and he still was only positive a handful of plays.

+

Good TE production.

Defense made enough plays at the end to get it done.

Scored 37 without your #1 WR against a pretty good defense. MLF  really has the offense playing well.

Defense. Personnel is lacking and my wait-and-see approach toward the most recent draft is becoming difficult to maintain.

Summers looked awful on one attempted tackle on Kamara, but after that I think he made every tackle he had a chance on.  He was pretty good other than the one pathetic miss on Kamara.

MLF and his offense are scheming a bunch of mediocre WRs and TEs open with a commitment to the running game that just never existed under Big Mac.

Aaron is playing very, very well and the OLine is holding up.

Crosby continues to be $$.

As for the D, well can we talk about the O some more?

He did alright.  He made a nice ankle tackle and filled in the hole pretty well.  I just wonder if he can hold up and not get pinballed around.

++ Lazard, the TE group as a whole, Jones with some clutch runs vs a stout defense. Starting to take him for granted again but Rodgers was Rodgers. Ty Summers picked things up well for his first time playing on defense. Keke showed up. Z didn't do a lot but had the defensive play of the game.

-- The DL except for Keke. Waaaay too many missed tackles. Need better than one 5 yard catch from MVS.  And finally, the tools calling the game over at 27-27 when Jones was stopped on 4th and 1.

That is a helluva win.

Great

AR continues to look 1000% more comfortable running the offense than he has in 4-5 years. He's completely aligned to the MLF offense.

TEs - Holy coming out party eh? No drops, TDs for Lewis and Tonyan. It's one game but Sternberger looked like the guy I'm guessing the coaches see in practice.

Lazard is legit. He's a legit #2. Period. Still thought they needed 1 more guy, but if the TEs are stepping up, whatever...

OL just continues to be outstanding.

Good

Jones had a very solid game. I think it' silly to question the playcalling given what we've seen produced, but I still think I'd like to see more Jones and less Williams.

I thought the DBs did a decent job vs the pass. Brees may be throwing shorter as he gets older, but they didn't give him any easy deep shots.

Ugly

They won a big game, and there's no need to dwell on much else, but JESUS the tackling on that Kamara TD was the laziest ass effort I've seen in some time. That was absolutely pathetic.

At the very least, they could stand to have 1 more solid run stopping D-Lineman.  Seeing Keke play well helped made up for Clark's absence.  But overall the D-Line is definitely something that will be a bit of a pain point especially if Clark continues to be out for awhile.

Just in general, looking around the league, almost every defense looks pretty shaky right now, there aren't many teams completely shutting everyone down.  Maybe the Ravens have looked the best defensively, but we will see how they do vs. the Chefs tomorrow.

+  Role players on offense made the most of their chances. AR may have been a bit too eager to try to make MVS into Davante, but down the stretch 12 used his TEs and that may have been the pivotal shift in the second half. Tonyan, Lewis, Jace all made big plays.

+ I'll give props to MLF for the play fake to score the last td. But i hope he makes note that the Saints D completely nullified his Jonesy cutback play. Need to throw in some wrinkles off that formation.

- I'll say the defense. But that comes with an *. Z made a play when it really counted and made up for the bad penalty. LBs had a rough night but Kamara makes a lot of guys look foolish. Tackling and wrapping needs a ton of work. They need a healthy KC to truly gauge where the defense is at. Even though Brees checked down all night, too many catch and runs that broke for bigger gains.

When you got a Lazard you don't need to draft no WR.

Having two WRs won't go far.  MVS is just so completely inconsistent he can't be counted on.  Good to see Bob and Burgerflipper pull their heads out of their asses.

Bob's Burgers.  It's a work in progress.

Also - I enjoy mocking Taysom Hill as much as the next guy, but I don't think his fumble was the turning point. Between the Pack losing it on downs and that fumble, it was basically no harm/no foul.

The 3 and out where they stopped 2 passes to Kamara, who killed them all night, was THE drive of the game.

+ Big time win, 3 in NFC, 2 in Division.

+Rodgers trusted game plan after a bit of regression in 1st half.

+Rodgers cadence calls.

+Lazard/ TEs filled gap of Adams.

+RBs did enough, despite short yardage woes.

+ Crosby is $$$

- Slow start on O again, FGs don't get it done.

-Rough start for D but they did clamp down on run in 4th Q and...

+finally got a fumble recovery that helped tilt the game in Green Bay's favor.

- MVS, and injuries on D.

True Team Win.

- Everybody grabbing...nobody tacklin'!!!!

+ We won...and it was a good win in another dome. Can Brees throw a pass farther than 20 yards?

+ Lazard...needed him without Adams in there and he came through

I think Tonyan has the potential to be a pretty good player.   Hopefully Rodgers starts looking for him more after gaining some confidence in him tonight.

That corner stop route last week was unstoppable.

That's because the Packers have an All-World QB & an All-World RB, so you can get away with it.

Re: More Jones than Williams.....

Remember.....it's a marathon, not a sprint. Keeping Jones fresh down the stretch will be key. I like more Williams early honestly.

I watched the Saints play all 3 weeks this year. That game tonight was far & away the best the Saints have played to this point.....and the Pack hung 37 on them MINUS Davante.

There is no question the Packers are for real & certainly a playoff contender in the NFC. Newsflash....so is Seattle.

You also saw today the Lions ain't as bad as everyone thought they were. Conversely the Cardinals aren't as good either....welcome to week #3 in the NFL.

yep, we won.  was not pretty at all times, but we should continually improve.  i saw proabably 3-4 missed tackles by summers, defense needs to get better, but hey, i will never look a gift horse in the mouth.  being 3-0 vs. having a baller defensive effort and losing...ya.  you know where i am headed.  clay matthews may be in the future, if 58 is significantly out...

There were 3-4 missed tackles on Kamara's last TD run,
Not sure if any of those belonged to Ty.

What Is Good

Coaching/Game Planning/Play Calling
The offense, while not flawless, is performing at a stellar level.
They have also been able to to absorb injuries along the OL well, with no significant drop-off from the backups.
Individually, ARod, Adams, Jones, Ervin, Daktari, Jenkins, Linsley, and Crosby have been outstanding.

The advantages of winning early, especially within the division, will pay off in spades for post-season seeding.

What Ain't

Defensive Coaching
Defensive players.
Anyone and anything that is associated with the defense.

The dearth of talent on the DL and at ILB is obvious, and injury is exposing the lack of depth.
The Smiths' play has regressed. Either or both of them could 'take over' games last year, but this year they have been Bigfoot; an occasional sighting, but can't find 'em when we look for them.
Obviously, learning how to tackle would be an immediate help as would getting KC back in the mix, but I can't see that it's going to transform this defense.

I'm sure there is much, much more at work behind the scenes that dictated why we go to war with what we have instead of what we need, and the day may come when we know, but for now the defense is FUBAR, literally.

It would be interesting to see when the 2020 schedule came out if anyone thought they would be 3-0 right now.  Road games at Minnesota and New Orleans?   Two of the more difficult places to play under normal circumstances.  Now?   It’s very possible the Packers win 5+ road games this year.

As for the game, the defense remains a concern specifically WTF has happened to Preston Smith?   Z Smith has been OK, and was good to see Keke step up, but they need more production out of their outside  pass rushers.   Tackling was a problem as well but Kamara is a beast and Ty Summers actually looked like he can play some LB.

Offensively, a really well called and executed game plan.  The TEs by committee seemed to have an impact and they will need to contribute as long as Adams is out.  Lazard took a big step forward and MVS is well, MVS.  Boom or bust.

It is becoming increasingly obvious just how much an advantage having no fans gives the offenses in general. 12 teams scored 30+ points yesterday. We have played vs. 3 really good "stat QBs" and will face another one this week. Yes, our defense doesn't look good, but few in the league do right now.

I like aggressive play calling and going for it on 4th down.  We won't get them all, but I like seeing it more than the punter.

Mike Capers needs to figure out his squad

Yup. Great tackle by Barnes, great tackle by Summers and Sullivan shedding his block to tackle him was it. That's when I knew we had this game. A couple three and outs in the first half too.

"There is no question the Packers are for real & certainly a playoff contender in the NFC. Newsflash....so is Seattle."

BUT they are the same old Seahawks--no pass rush besides that new safety who got injured yesterday and no running game other than Russell scrambling. I'd love to see them at Lambeau again in the playoffs.
