Looks that way right now... Marquez just has a little extra zip, "it," if you will; if they cut him they would be sorry because I think his best is yet to come. Kumerow may never be the speediest or flashiest, but he's sure-handed, has decent speed, and has a knack for getting separation and running good routes. G-Mo? Steady, good size, good hands...but hasn't taken that jump and may have reached his ceiling.

Coach Parkinson would pick us up by the back of our (long hair) and announce it was "Time for a haircut."

Good times.

Win Parkinson?

Never knew he was a football coach, but dammm he was a great basketball guy.

One of the best coaching jobs I've ever seen was in 1983.

Should never have made it out of the sectionals and yet he guided the team to the state championship.

What in the fu**ity fu**? The salary cap guy decides who comes off the practice squad and not the coaches? Please tell me Rob is joking. Please.

Maybe that's why Ball is not the GM... and I sure the heck hope this is not true!

Honestly. 5 punts. 41 yard average. Nothing returned. Two fair catches. 1 TB. Two OOBs.

Net average of 41 yards is usually good enough to lead the NFL. I’ll take a net average of 41 yards all year long.

Pitt punter uncorked a monster 65 yard punt. That Josh Jackson returned 41 yards.

Good point.

 I sit corrected.

Appears to be good news on both fronts:

It feels strange to criticize anything on offense when they produced 51 points (!), but....
At this point, I think time and money would be better spent finding some OTs instead of trying to sign Mack. They're not likely to be any UFDAs, so it would have to be via trade, but we've got the guy (and ammunition) to make some deals.
Regardless, it's time for Spriggs to be sent packing. When a first-round draft pick can't block second-string players, something's wrong. Bell may be decent depth, but shouldn't be a starter. Ditto for Murphy. ARod is gonna get killed if Daktari or Baluga go down.

Rushing needs some work. 2.3 YPC ain't gonna get it. 2.6 YPC if I add the QB rushes is hardly any better. I think I heard we averaged 2.8 YPC last week. You can generate more power by sneezing.

TE/WR is a pleasant surprise. These will be the position groups where the toughest cuts are going to be made. Of course, I would hope some of the young guys will clear waivers and get signed to PS, but we're still likely to lose a/some good players. I'm in favor of using Hundley's roster spot to keep at least one of them, if it were to come to that. I'd hate to lose Ripper or Kerridge to keep another, but these guys are largely producing. And it's time for the team to take a chance with a guy like Kumerow, IMHO. I'd keep him before I would Moore. And Dad St. Brown needs to get in his boy's ass. I can't say he's even PS worthy at this point.

I have no idea what to expect on defense after 2 games. On paper, we've got some studs at the DL positions, but they are not stopping the rush consistently. I still think they may be the strongest group on the team, but allowing 5.6+ YPC is not a formula for success.
I'd keep a seat warm on the bus next to Spriggs for Biegel and Fackrell. Gilbert has been a nice surprise, but when the inevitable injury happens to CM3 and/or Perry, we'll still need some more (better) depth.
HHCD looked like he was half-assing it. Hawkins had a poor play on their big pass, but rebounded nicely I thought. Right now, Rollins' value seems to be at KR/PR, but if we keep an extra WR, he's expendable.

I hope we get a much better idea where we stand next week if all starters play for extended time, as expected.

WTF. He was trying to get in before the defender tackled him. So he got hurt. That's football. No need for drama.

look forward to the first string offense in another game.  the defense was pushed around - many starters did not look good, gashing rushes on us.  on the flipside, te looked good, what stuck out to me was biegel, martini, hawkins, not in a  good way.  i think 24 is toast, i also think some of the starters should get a benching, i am talking about 21, 52 they stood out as having a real non-starter of a game.  missed assignments missed tackles, come on, suppose to be getting better here.

For some odd reason, MM and Campen keep trotting out Murphy at left tackle.  He cannot play there - his feet are way too slow.  Bell is terrible and should not make this roster.  Light is intriguing, but as a PS guy.  Our tackle depth is a huge concern.

I don't know what happened to Biegel, but his preseason has not been good.  Gilbert is a nice story, and is the 3rd OLB, but that's more of a testament to how badly Fackerell and Biegel have played.  Fackerell is just too light to play OLB on run downs.

Burks has looked very good.  His speed stands out.  Hopefully he keeps progressing because he will be targeted early once the regular season starts to test him out.

Our safeties are a mess.  HHCD missing tackles, Brice played very poorly.  Jones is MIA and has had a poor preseason.  Rollins is better suited at safety, but I didn't get a chance to focus on how he played there last night.

CB depth with the rookies is very good.  Hopefully King comes back soon.  The UDFA's really haven't stepped up (Hawkins, Pipkins, Waters, Brown) to earn a spot on 53.  I was hoping Hawkins would finally show something, but he has not (he did have a very nice block on JJ's punt return).  IDK know if Waters still has PS eligibility, but if so, may be worth keeping him there for another year.

Hopefully the next 2 weeks help sort out the WR spots.  With Davis on the sideline, I don't see how he makes the roster (possible IR?).  I think it would be tough to carry all three WR draft picks on the final 53.  Kumerow has done everything the coaches could ask for.

Haven't seen the tape yet but fundamental run fits on D seem to be a big problem.  Hopefully that's Pettine and the D playing possum to some extent.  But we will miss Ryan on run downs.  Hopefully they figure out a fix before WK08.  The biggest help our run D could get this season might be from the O getting up early to force opposing teams out of any runs plays.  I hope Burks is durable because it looks like he's going to be flying all over the place as well as knocking uglies with the OL.  Easy for a rook to get worn down or injured by Dec at that pace.  And there is very little behind him.  Safeties are also a concern.

Preseason aside, I hope we have a run game going and our OL stays healthy by WK01.  WR3 and 4 are not that big a priority at this point and that depth chart will sort itself out.  And while I think Moore will get a long leash because of his draft position and skill set, he needs to find a way to break out at some point.  Adams and Jordy both struggled with drops but he's in danger of slipping down the rabbit hole if he doesn't start finishing.

Clinton Dix is a waste of space

I can't remember where I saw Clinton Dix interviewed this off-season, but he seems like an awesome dude off the field.  I think he's one of those guys that may be more successful post-NFL than he is as a player.  He almost plays like a guy that's saving himself for his post-NFL career.

I can't say I blame him, and yet it's frustrating as a fan because he is getting paid a heck of a lot of money to be focusing on football.  Hopefully he turns it on a little bit when the "lights go on", but he certainly looks like he's holding back in pre-season and he held back for most of last year as well.

It's amazing how far that guy has come since 2015.  I remember reading something after the 2015 season where he charted as having one of the worst seasons in NFL history for a WR that started regularly.  To go from that to being as good as he is now is amazing.  Good for him.  At this point, I'd say his only issue is that he'll drop a ball or 2 that he should catch.  The good news is, so far I haven't seen him drop anything this pre-season.  He just looks fantastic and maybe can be even better than he's been the past 2 years if he cuts down the drops.

42 looks good, but i did see him get swallowed up at least 1/2 dozen times, he has to get better at shedding blocks, he should never rush at an OL, either he has a gap(got to the qb) or he has to shed and play in space.  i saw him attack the OL straight up a couple times last night and got burned.  no more aj hawk please, but this dude is fast as a burp.

He was running on an injured ankle almost the whole 2015 season.  His rise is really not that surprising when you look at what he did as a rookie in 2014.  Still, considering how hard it must have been on him to show the way he did in 2015, it is still impressive he was able to return to his upward trajectory.

Yep. It's why it's so important to look at the context of a bad season and why prospects, especially high picks, should be given plenty the full 4 (or even 5) years to develop.
