The call was horrible. There's no disputing that. The only "simultaneous" thing that happened were the two dumdum refs that provided contradicting calls at the same time.

Bad calls happen though. With that said, replay is in place to make sure this stuff doesn't happen. It supposed to correct the blunders of human nature. It gives the refs a slow motion look at the play, a chance to take a breath and make the correct call. It still didn't happen.

Some fans then clung onto "Rule 17", which allows the NFL to reverse an obvious blunder such as this. There was no excuse not to. It was the last play of the game. It was obviously a horrible call. It affected the outcome of the football game. Everything was in order for the NFL to take a step back, man up and tell the world they ****ed it all up and properly award the Packers the W.

What do we get instead? A sorry ass response from the NFL blowing smoke up our asses while agreeing with the officials. Even a full blown poof knows it's a load of crap.

The NFL punched the fans in the face and basically said, don't worry about it.

That's what pisses me off.

I want to see Goodell get up in front of a TV camera with an interviewer and try and explain this ****. He can't hide forever, he'll eventually have to appear behind a podium or in a chair for an interview. I also want to hear from that lump of dung down in Dallas, Texas who simply said he "didn't see the play" when asked about it this morning.
We have to hit them where it hurts in the pocketbook and it can't be a small contingent of fans.

All of us. Every fan of every team should be outraged and do what we all did to baseball. Simply stop going & stop watching.

FYI. There will NOT be a game thread this Thursday. I'm not watching the game either. If we all follow suit, and the viewership goes away, watch how fast they change their minds.

We've never hit them in the pocketbook the way we did to baseball

Now is the time. It is time.
Doesn’t the fact that Tate committed a penalty mean that the game should have ended? Since they do agree that there was a penalty before the catch, then the discussion about the INT/TD is moot. There’s no play beyond the OPI and the game ends. The NFL walked a very fine line here. They support that there was not definitive evidence, a very subjective idea, to overturn the call. That’s not saying the call was right or wrong, but in their opinion there’s not enough to change it. Okay I understand the logic, I don’t agree with the conclusion, but I understand the logic. At the same time that they tacitly supported the refs conclusion, they also tacitly supported everyone else’s conclusions by saying the OPI should have been called which would have meant the game should have ended. The fact that they don’t say “We support that there was a simultaneous catch” or “The head ref made the correct call”, but they do point out the uncalled penalty means they agree with everyone’s position, but they can’t give the refs any more leverage than they already have.

You're a fantastic leader, Boris. Great posting.

If this happens a few more times over the coming weeks, I could see some sort of fan boycott coming about. However, none of us are going to miss the Packers game next Sunday. The league knows it, and we all know it. Fans didn't want to see the replacement players in '87, but we have a long way to go before things are at that level.
What pisses me off the most is the argument that the NFL allows for some subjectivism on calls and that this was a subjective call. That the ref who signaled touchdown had the best view and thus the best subjective opinion.

Pass interference, holding, illegal contact... those things are subjective.

Whether a pass is a touchdown or an interception is NOT subjective. Especially given the use of instant replay.

I have always been a pretty big supporter of the idea that you cannot blame the refs for losing a game. I never really could imagine a situation in which the refs could, in one swoop, decide the outcome of a game. Well, here it is. And the f-cked it up royally. It's clear as day, and as the rule applies, it's an interception.
Have you noticed the deafening silence coming from Mark Murphy's office? He's a chicken **** towing the company line. Mark my words he will have an office in League Headquarters some day. He is not Packer.
He said plenty. He said it was a bad call, and that he feels the Packers might sometimes face discrimination because they don't have an owner (don't really think the latter one played any role last night, but he still said it).
BORIS

I am with you man, all the way. Losing a SB or a playoff game can be disappointing, in a makes-you-sad kinda way. But you can appreciate the game and the post season all and the effort our team made to get there. You can understand that you cant win them all

Losing a game like this, in a season like this that is shaping up to be worthless makes me mad. This was a worthless game in a worthless season. A situation which should have been fixed in August. A frustrated understanding that you cant win at all. THERE ARE NO WINNERS ONLY LOSERS

Its been a long time coming for me. I have been a critic of the NFL before. If it were not for the Packers, I would not watch NFL football. Not watching the Pack is going to be hard. Not watching the rest of the games will be easy.

Winding down and checking out

Keep the faith everyone. The Packers are the greatest team in the history of the NFL. They will always be better than the NFL 2012

out
While a fan revolt or boycott would eventually hit the owners in their wallets, it can't happen quick enough. What needs to happen is the players need to make a statement, and what two better teams to do it than the Saints @ Packers? NOS pissed about bounty-gate and GBP fuming over a non-simultaneous Intertouchcepdowntion. They are the national game on FOX Sunday... perfect stage.
We can no longer say the NFL is above reproach when it comes to talking about the integrity of the league.

David Stern has gotten ripped for years for the "fixing" comments going back years in the NBA playoffs and the draft lottery, and in reality, is the NFL that much different? Probably not.

I expected to be more angry than I was this morning but I really was not. I was mad for about 30 minutes after the game and that was it. Why? The league is a total mess and it has been for years now. The level of greed is beyond control, and for a business that drones on about "protecting the shield" they look like complete idots for marching out an inferior product. Making matters worse, they continue to tap dance around PEDs and blow off retired players all while getting filthy rich in the process.

I stepped away from baseball for several years after the 1994 strike, and this might be the tipping point for me. I love the Packers and everything they stand for but the NFL is dead to me. Enough is enough.

What would really be interesting is if the players just decided they weren't going to play out of protest. Now THAT would send a message.

I gotta watch the Pack ... but I usually watch football all day, that I will not do.

I know the Packers players won't quit and I love watching them as the leaves fall ... I just gotta watch'em.

100% agree.. What could they do though?

Both teams take 3 delay of game penalties, declined of course, to start the game and 2nd half. You got a good 15 minutes of no action on LIVE tv.

As far as fan boycotting. I typically watch 5 games a week. Early, late, night, thursday and Monday. That will be cut down to 1, the Packer game.

FUKK YOU, NFL.

Right. Two very talented teams fresh off screw jobs from the NFL machine. What sort of a statement are you thinking?

I can keep away from the other games, too. Even though I always watch them, doing that much wouldn't be hard at all.
I have plenty of other things to do than watch the NFL

The 1994 strike did impact the overall fan interest in baseball because people could not relate to the greed factor. To a certain extent the same thing happened in the NBA a few years after that with the work stoppage.

AR made some great point today responding to how hypocritical the NFL is in many respects. It's about the money, pure and simple.
As the rep of the owners, Goodell deserves the blame.

But lets not forget about the owners themselves. They're just as much to blame as well.

The one team that doesn't have a greedy owner to pine for more money at the referee negotiations gets f-cked. The irony is astounding.

Little or no action for the first few series, all 3 and out. Punt and fair catch. Rinse repeat.

I was never a big boxing fan, but I used to watch it on HBO or Showtime occasionally. Most of the fights I watched featured fighters that I had never heard of, but I'd watch the introductions and pick a side before the fight began. Sometimes my guy would win, sometimes not, but either way I didn't have anything invested in the outcome so it didn't make much difference who won.

Occasionally I'd watch a fight that would go to the scorecards and although everybody (commentators, fans, fighters) knew who won the fight, the judges would get it completely wrong. It was obvious that the fix was in, not surprising since it was a boxing match. Still, even though I had never heard of either fighter before the fight, it pi$$ed me off that I had wasted 30+ minutes watching something so completely unfair.

It happened enough times that I finally decided that I was done watching boxing. I kinda miss it, but I know that if I do watch it, there's a good chance that I'm going to end up mad about some fight that I had no interest in.

I haven't followed the dispute between the NFL and the refs so I don't have an opinion on who is more at fault, but last night's debacle was a disgrace. I've been a Packers fan all my life, but I'm done with the NFL until the real refs come back. I'm not going through another game like last night again.

We're talking about an amount of money the NFL has stuck between filing cabinets on Park Avenue. The main sticking point is more than $3 million the refs want in a pension. The league only wants to give them 401(k)s. And yet Goodell is risking the integrity of his $9 billion league on a loose thread like this. He's letting his house flood because he's mad at his plumber.

If you could've seen Aaron Rodgers' face after, you know he didn't think any of this was funny. I've never seen him look like that. He was white with anger. He was mad enough to rip the top off an Econoline van.

"Are you pissed?" I asked him.

"Yes," he said.

Then later …

"What did you think when you saw the replay?"

"Awful, just awful. And then, for them to review it? [Pause.] Just awful."

"Is this the most bitter loss you've ever suffered?"

Pause.

"Yes."

quote:
"This game gets an asterisk," grumbled Packers nose guard B.J. Raji.

If Goodell isn't careful, this season is going to get one, too.

For me the asterisk has already been added.
