If he had played right tackle maybe he would have .....since he would then have had to block Watt
Dillion had 5 carries for 11 today, I love Williams and have high hope for the youngster but I would not shitcan Jones just yet.
They won a game they were favored and did so in comfortable fashion. See some “dominant” comments being thrown around and no that was not dominant today. Maybe Adams? He was really good.
Thought the OL played well and run defense was solid. Liked Barnes and Martin but Summers not so much. Greene was up and down.
The good news is they are 5-1 and the first 8 or so games are their most difficult stretch. The bad news is if you play a team that knows how to attack this team throwing the ball (see last week) I have concerns. Most of our defenders suck at defending the middle of the field. Then there’s the offense. If Adams and Jones aren’t having big games I’m not sure they are talented enough to carry the day.
We are another good WR and a speedy, aggressive LB away from being a very good team.
Josh Jackson was around the ball a few times, that is new
Davante Adams - 13 catches - 196 yards
All other Packer WR's - 2 catches - 6 yards (Both Malik Taylor)
Missing the Lizard man, and that's not swell so much.

Disagree on the offense. We've seen the team without Adams playing multiple times. Rodgers finds other targets and spreads the ball around quite a bit. Tonyan had a huge day in Adams' absence a few weeks ago as an example. We also saw the offense without Jones today and Williams played well. The only way this offense is truly going to sputter is if 12 gets hurt or the OL isn't protecting him, which we saw in TB last week.
Absolutely agree on getting another WR and a MLB. Adding high-level talent to those two positions would take this team to another level. Hindsight is 20/20, but this team looks a bit different today if they take Queen in R1 and find a way to nab Chase Claypool in R2. Not getting ANY of the highly rated WRs in the 2020 draft was damn near criminal.

I agree, Williams is a great kid, hard worker, assignment sure does everything "okay", but Jones would have broken 2-3 of Williams runs today past the LOS .... Williams just does not have the burst or cutting ability that Jones has.

The clock is ticking on MVS. In a game where Adams was seeing double coverage in the second half, MVS had 4 targets and a bad drop.

Not taking a player at any position that will be a big contributor this year was criminal. A 3rd string QB, a 3rd string TE, and a RB who they didn't trust enough to give more than 5 carries in a game today where they were trying to run the ball throughout the second half. That's what they got out of the first 4 rounds.
If they come up short at any point this season, Gute and MLF should answer some tough questions about why they made those decisions in the draft.
I suspect if they think they’re going to get something out of Dillon this season, it’ll be towards the latter part of the season.

That clock is done ticked.
Yep, he's repeating 2019. Decent start to the season then disappear when they actually need him to be something.
+++ Next man up. Guys stepped in and moved around as needed and got the job done. Teams like the Vikings lose a couple of guys and they just fold. Kamel Martin looked really good in his long awaited debut. 6 tackles and a TFL.
--- MVS - you are done. ESB - the clock is ticking. Dexter Williams - I wouldn't even bother putting him back on the PS.
Need to get some of these guys back next week. I'm sure Jones will be back. But getting Bahk, King, Ervin and Savage back would make a win over the Vikings much more manageable.
Queens game will be physical. They always are.Usually a couple injuries come out of these games.
Yep, this game will be their Super Bowl.
It's a game the Packers really need to win. It's also a game the Vikings really need to lose to stay in the tank for Trevor sweepstakes. Probably adds up to a long day for the Packers.
++++
Scoring on the 1st drive again, 6 in a row now. MLF has the guys ready for that 1st series.
Z Smith looked closer to last year today.
TEs looked good, even with Tonyan banged up.

MVS, ESB, Shepard, WTF??
Couldn't watch the game today, only listened. But just to be clear, EQ shows some signs his rookie year. Then blows out his knee in TC his second year, missing the entire season. Then he's IR'd this season until game #5. And because he's not producing yet, he should be shit-canned??? Or at least on a short rope??? Seriously??
Good grief.
It's not a matter of not producing. He's not even getting reps. He had 11 last week which was decent for his first game back but when he was targeted it was a mess.
2nd game I might have missed it but I didn't see him line up at all. He's trending towards a ST guy that Rodgers doesn't trust. Need to reverse that if he wants to stick around for long. It shouldn't be too hard to pass Taylor and Shepard on the depth chart.

In the Tampa Bay game when the Packers were on their first series and driving near the red zone, Rodgers called and audible as ESB was lined up one on one with about an 8-yard cushion. ESB ran an awful pattern and/or didn't know the play and it was an incompletion. It short-circuited the drive and they ended up kicking a FG. He's had 3 years to learn the system and he couldn't execute a basic audible. That's probably why he didn't get snaps this week.
(11:27 - 1st) A.Rodgers pass incomplete short left to E.St. Brown.
He's "trending towards a ST guy that AR doesn't trust" two games back after missing his entire second season??? Okay. That makes sense.
Pretty: JaIre covering Fuller. Fuller got a TD late on that play where he backed into the end zone, but other than that, he was useless. Turner playing LT. He looked good there. Watt lined up on the other side of the line, so Wagner saw more of him, than Turner did. Jamaal was a beast and was having fun playing. The kid who knocked the ball from the Texan, with his helmet, and GB recovering the ball sealed the victory for us. The Smiths played well.
Ugly: The blocked punt. Opie had to see the guy closing in on him but tried punting anyway. Maybe hoping for a flag for roughing the punter??? Our DBs missed two INTs. The ball hit them in the hands, so they should have intercepted those passes. Not doing so, most of this season, it seems, keeps our defensive turnover numbers low. Our Special Teams play, especially on the onside kick, was pathetic. Where was the "hands team" in the middle of field on that play?
K Martin was a late round draft pick and playing his first game in the NFL yesterday. You don't need to see him play like a starter but you do want to see him show the ability to do so. He showed some very promising flashes yesterday, the highlight being when he found the hole and nearly pancaked their RB at the LOS. He had a lot of praise coming out of TC and it sounds like they trust him with his assignments and has good instincts. He deserves patience and as long as he can stay on the field I think we'll see him improve from week to week.
Dillon is still green but a guy that size doesn't usually amount to much if he doesn't have light feet. He's looked like a plodder so far.
Black and Scott. Who had either making key plays?
Martin had a good game. Like his instincts.
Chandon Sullivan with another solid performance.
EQ needs game reps. He can know the book, but live reps is where he'll get knowledge of the D alignments. Stay healthy and have some growth is all one could really ask of him.
Good.
The offensive line held up really well against a decent front four.
P. Smith made a huge play to prevent the game from getting too close for comfort.
Obviously, Davante Adams and Jaire Alexander.
Rodgers was actually a little bit off on several throws, but not a single poor decision and most of the throws that were a little off still resulted in long gains (instead of even longer TDs - long throws to Tonyan and Adams). Of course, there was virtually no pass rush.
Kamal Martin looked like he at least has a chance to be a contributor this year.
Bad
Special teams. Unlike the Zook type mistakes, this wasn't scheme. The blocked punt looked like it was entirely on Dexter Williams. He was perfectly lined up to stop that, but it looked like he wasn't expecting the guy he was assigned to actually rush and just went to passively tap him instead of block him and got run over. The onside kick was Chandon Sullivan's play to make and he didn't make it.
Dillon. This one baffles me. You have this oversized back that you want to pound defenses with, you are ahead by at least 14 points the entire second half, and you run him 1 time for 0 yards in the second half. He's 250 pounds and the whole point (I thought) was to use him to wear out defenses. Pro Football Focus credited him for gaining 1.4 yards after contact per rush on 5 carries. He doesn't seem to make guys miss very often, but will run over DBs if he gets a head of steam. He doesn't look like a guy that is much of a threat as a receiver. He should be OK in blitz pickup given that he's bigger than some of their TEs, but maybe they don't trust him yet? Right now, he looks like Ron Dayne in the NFL. That is, he's a guy that will usually fall forward after contact and turn 2 yard gains into 3 yard gains, but you can find those guys on a lot of practice squads.
MVS. He's played 222 snaps the last 4 games. He has 8 catches for 82 yards. In game 1 against the Vikings (who may have the worst pass defense in the NFL), he had catches of 45 and 39 yards. Against the Lions, he had catches for 15 and 41 yards. In the last 4 games, he's had only 2 catches for more than 15 yards (15 and 17). He's not a guy you can trust as a possession receiver, but that's OK if he gets a couple of chunk plays a game. That's not happening anymore.
Lazard behind Adams made MVS's job a lot easier as a 3. He's had to step into the 2 and just hasn't made it work. I think he'll make more plays once 17 and 13 are on the field together again.
Next year?
Dunno. I keep reading estimates of 6-8wks. Depends on how he responds.
+ 5-1 is really good and better than I would have imagined
+ Rodgers and Adams can carry a team
+ We had a fullback make a block
+Raven Greene is superior to Savage
+ despite the Block, Scott looked better-he's definitely an inside cat
+ Badgers have a legitimate QB
- Cobb looked really good, it is mind boggling that the Packers have not added a receiver
-MVS is a team player, he blocks well down field and helps get other receivers open, but he can't get open himself or adjust to balls--any other end on the roster has to be better

Trade him to the Vikings. I hear they're interested in him.

People were saying the same things about Nick Collins in year 2. Must give him a chance to work through it. I know Savage is going to be very good even if he isn't great this year.

Cobb looked good, but the Texans signed him to a ridiculous contract. The contract is basically 2 years and a guaranteed 18 million. It's too bad he's not tradeable (18 million dollar cap hit for the Texans to trade) as he'd be worth giving up a 4th round pick for if you are the Packers.
Amazingly enough, JJ Watt is very tradeable (there is no dead cap hit for the Texans to trade him and he makes a pretty reasonable 1 million dollars per game over the next 1.5 years of his remaining contract). Bring JJ home.

This point is a great one. When I watched the game in person in Detroit last year, the thing that stuck out was that MVS doesn't track the ball well at all. Lazard and Adams are both great at it. MVS just doesn't have that skill.
Also, it's the way he brings in the ball as well. It's like he's fumbling to make the grab instead of just snatching it out of the air like Adams and Lazard. That was the thing that impressed me about Lazard, Soft, sure hands.

I couldn’t help but think that now that’s their season is KIA, they could go out and get some draft capital and start the rebuild. When they approached Watt about an extension, he flat said no need. Reggie White was the same age when he came to Green Bay...
Another guy that struggled mightily tracking the ball in the air: Jeff Janis.
Agreed on MVS/Janis lacking ball tracking skills. That is something that is almost not coachable, it’s something that comes naturally and easily to some, and for others they never get good at it no matter how hard they work to improve at it.
The best I ever saw at ball tracking was Randy Moss. He had an incredible ability to accelerate/decelerate to exactly the right spot to catch the ball easily. Sterling Sharpe was very good at that as well.
