For my own sanity had to step away after the 1st half and you can thank me later for not setting the x4 record for number of fuck statements in a thread but what a horrible loss for this team.

Yes, they came back and the refs were awful, but your starting QB cannot be turning the ball over multiple times in ball games.  I think Mordecai made some nice throws and scrambles to escape pressure but the fumble TD basically sealed the game for Washington State.

90 yards rushing for the game including Allen going 7 rushes for 20 yards is unacceptable.   It’s great he caught 6 passes but for 12 total yards?   I’m pretty sure he gets more than 12 yards if they are (6 more) run plays.

Then there’s the issue of the defense.  Little to no pass rush, poor tackling (again), and really questionable scheming in the first half.  I also don’t think their cover guys on the back end are very good.

I’ve said this before but basically Washington State is the Purdue of that conference.   Usually solid to sometimes decent but for a program like Wisconsin to lose to them two years in a row is an embarrassment.

We know this is a marathon and not a sprint and I do like where the program is headed but man if they continue to play like this the rest of the way this year it’s a 7 or 8 win team at best.   The biggest change needs to be they can’t wait until the second half of games to show up and play with energy and focus.    That’s 110% on Fickell and the coaches.

I think the bad calls in Melussi’s fumble and the safety change the tide, but that is whiner talk.   Better defense in the first half makes this a win.

still not sure why people are so kissed at the qb.   Maybe I’ll figure it out as the season goes on.

Allen didn’t seem to have any spark in his step

As I generally get over Packer/Brewer /Badger losses practically immediately, I’m still disappointed this morning about how shockingly unprepared the team was for this game. Blown coverages, substitution penalties and completely predictable schemes are an indictment of the coaching staff. Rant over.

Onward!

The part that’s shocking to me after watching through the highlights (or lowlights) was just how bad Jack Nelson was at left tackle.   Coming into this season, some were talking about him as a day 1 pick in the draft next year.   Unlike the defensive backs (other than Wohler), this OL is loaded with talented 4 star guys.  They have to play better as they have the ability.

Given those OL issues, I do feel a little better about Mordecai and Allen.   The fumble TD was 100% on Jack Nelson and the OL didn’t hold down the point of attack well at all.

The good news is the Big Ten West doesn’t look that great and Cam Ward might be one of the best QBs they play.  They just need to be more like the 3Q and less like the first half.  That and find a way to move up the calendar a year for some of their DB recruits to get on the field.
