Born in 1972.  Watched a LOT of bad teams growing up- Brewers, Packers, Badgers, etc.  About the only decent teams back then were Marquette hoops and the Bucks (go figure).

As for lamenting about the Bucs, I think you can trace a lot of their current fail back to 10 years ago.  People forget that they gave away multiple draft picks for Chucky and Keyshawn Johnson and while those guys got them a ring they also mortgaged their future.

When the Bucs were good (10-15 years ago) they built those teams on good draft picks.  Lately, it seems like they've gotten caught up in the hype and signed a bunch of free agents - some which have worked out while others have not.

People want to criticize TT but the winning model over the long haul is building your team with draft picks.   There is no "we're going to win this year" model because those teams come and go.   The really good teams that have sustained success don't go crazy in free agency.  Think the Packers and Patriots.

What's really funny about this thread is that I'm sure teams like Minnesota and Philly would gladly exchange the last 10-15 years for a Superbowl victory.   At least Tampa got a ring.

Sorry, I was trying to follow for a while, but then you included Warren Sapp among the people who were just so easy to cheer for because of their awesome work ethics and great way they played the game.  Bucs only got Sapp because he fell in the draft because he was too stupid to not stop smoking pot before the combine.  He was one of the most obnoxious human beings in the NFL throughout his career.  Guy tried to end Clifton's career with a blind side hit away from the play.  In that game where Sapp left his feet to hit an offensive tackle who was not chasing the player who just intercepted the ball and almost completely separated his leg from his hip, Warren Sapp did not register a single stat.  No tackles, no assisted tackles, no sacks, no passes defended...  Sapp was classless.  People that are easy to cheer for get cheered for by people who just love football and are not fans.  There are lots of players around the league I just love to watch play.  Sapp was never one of them.  Guy was and is a classly jerk.

As for being all unhappy your team is not winning now, even in parity there are winners and losers.  It really has to work from the top down.  Packers, Patriots and Colts seem to get the plan.  They have not stayed down for long for a good long stretch.  This will not last forever either.  After the Packers won in the 1996-97 season, my uncle explained to me that his life now made sense.  He was the youngest in the family and several of his brothers, like my dad, had seen the Lombardi Packers.  He missed all of it, but his mother told him the Packers were the greatest team ever.  He told me his entire life was a lie until 1997.  For a team with the NFL's longest losing streak in history you are getting pretty down about having 11 bad years.

We can complain all we want about the Packers dry spell in the 70s and 80s but everyone knows how we endured and why.  We lived off the golden years and Lombardi's teams.  Even if we were too young to see any of it, we all knew the score.  I started watching them as a little kid in 79 because of all the stories I heard about the 60's.  And James Lofton was a pretty exciting player.  Starr played for Lombardi people desperately wanted to believe he could coach too.  Then Gregg and those wars with the Bears.  Those 80's teams had a couple spikes of success with Dickey, just enough to give a kid hope.  Majkowski had everyone buzzing.

So it wasn't like the Packers were the Jaguars.

The post I made is partially sarcasm/humor, and partially "Why the hell would he post such a lengthy diatribe about the Bucs on a Packers message board??"  I mean, they're not in the same division anymore and haven't been for a dozen years.  And while the Packers/Bucs used to be rivals when they were in the same division (and the whole Favre-Sapp BS), they aren't anymore.  There's really no connection between the teams other than they play in the same conference and play each other every couple of years.

I guess I just don't understand why the fans of other teams would post on this board about those other teams that have absolutely nothing to do with the Packers.  What type of responses were you really expecting???  The overwhelming majority of Packer fans on this board really could give 2 sh!ts about the last 11 years of plight and how it affects their fans.  And some of us actually take a bit of pleasure in seeing the demise for a variety of reasons, most notably that several of their players were d!cks (Sapp hit on Clifton comes to mind). Really.  I'm not trying to be mean spirited, but judging from the majority of responses in this thread, I think my attitude is commonly reflected.

I can understand your frustration, the Bucs are pretty unique...a 'new' expansion team that suffered like no other, finally rise to respectability and it looked like the tide had been turned for good, only to return to pitifulness.....It is such a young team that it is hard to have an obsessive , historical following no matter what...

Packer fans on this board...even the young ones, come from families that have watched the Packers for generations...and a lot of it was terrible.

the 1950 Packers were as bad as any team in Sports history...The Lombardi era was pure beauty but much more brief than the 'gory' years of the 70s and 80s....Also really old time Packer fans, inherited the Chicago Cubs from their families---long before the Braves and Brewers left there fan bases and relocated in Milwaukee. the Cubs did not win a World Series in my Grandpa's life time, my Dad's lifetime and I aint getting any younger...I still cheer for them...so I think this is a reason you're not getting much love. Good luck to your Bucs.
