The most surprising report of the night was Ian Rappaport saying Dallas was prepared to take Carson Wentz if he fell to them. It makes sense for Dallas to take a QB, but I would have been legitimately shocked had Dallas passed on flashier talent for a smart pick.

Steven seems to have been a good influence as the Cowboys have been pretty draft savvy the last few years.

There were some pretty negative reactions on ESPN for Cleveland passing on the franchise quarterback, who is still a player that I consider to be pretty risky considering his injury history, the low level of competition he played at and the team was just as good when he was injured and not playing.

Not real crazy about the Coleman pick, but all of Cleveland’s moving resulted in this:

Traded away:
#2 - QB-Carson Wentz
#176
2017 4th round pick

Received:
#15 - Corey Coleman
#76
#77
#100
2017 1st round pick
2017 2nd round pick
2018 2nd round pick

Giving up the #176 and a 2017 4th round comes close to offsetting the #100 pick, so remove those from the equation. The move from #2 to #15 netted Cleveland a first round pick, 2 second round picks and 2 third round picks. If I had that many picks I’d like the odds of finding a franchise quarterback in 2017 or 2018 when it’s likely the top rated quarterbacks will be better than they were in this class.

agree with the "Nagler is full of ****" talk". he's notorious for spreading false information on twitter; no doubt Jack is high on TT's board (fits the mold as a typical TT LB pick) but that knee injury is scary.

I'm guessing Clark was probably like 10-14 on their board and TT pulled the trigger. BPA. All day. Ted's way.

There was the big blow-up after the medical re-checks a couple weeks ago where one day all the reports were that Jack has a major knee issue and then the next day all the reports said that the previous day's reports were all over-blown.

But in that first day there was one quote from a scout that made a lot of sense.  He pointed out that Jack did not have a major knee injury.  It was a simple scope that usually only takes a couple months for an athlete like Jack to make a full recovery from.  Now seven months had gone by and Jack still would not run the 40-yard dash for scouts.  Why, after 7 months, would Jack not run the 40 unless the knee was still an issue?  There definitely seemed to be more going on there than what was being reported in the media.

I wonder if TT takes a punter in the late rounds or maybe he'll sign an undrafted one.  Not sure Masthay is the answer for this season.

The reports from the combine was that this punter class was pretty bad overall.  I'd guess Thompson would have "draftable" grades on Texas A&M's Drew Kaser and Syracuse's Riley Dixon but I think he find players at other positions that he'll like better.  Both of these guys would be top-notch undrafted free agent signings.  A few others that would be worth a look in camp are West Virginia's Nick "Boomstache" O'Toole, Duke's Will Monday and Sam Houston State's Lac Edwards.

In what world was there any chance of Wentz falling to the Cowboys?

I don't even understand the point of that Myles Jack update. Nobody thought he needed microfracture surgery right now. The issue with his knee is that it's not an if but WHEN he will need microfracture surgery. Teams have to decide if they want to pull the trigger on a guy who could give you 1 healthy year or maybe make it through his rookie contract before that knee gives out

good timing.

Doesn't need it now, but may need it down the road. Thus out of round 1. The Titans have three picks in round 2, if they don't take him if he's there I will be surprised.

Yes the issue isn't whether he needs it now. He doesn't. But the possibility exists he'll need it in 1-2 years. And it's at that point, no one really knows how his knee will recover. It also didn't help that Jack told the media something to the effect of 'well even if I can play 3 years, that's longer than most players' in the NFL.

Not a great endorsement of what you think your career will be.

This is worth revisiting since the guy nailed the Clark pick and didn't even have Billings, Butler or the Bama boys on his DL board for the Pack. (No, I'm not being paid to share.)

Using those "highlights", Clark has no ball awareness whatsoever.

With as much nickel as they play, three DL might be a bit many, though then again, they probably need at least two.

WSSP reporting that Ragland got a 10 on his Wonderlic. Re-took it and scored a 15. In addition to the medical stuff, concern is whether he's smart enough to run a defense and whether he can drop into coverage and understand what's going on. Many see him as a 2 down player, thus a reason he dropped out of the 1st.

Interesting.

Pretty sure he struggled with it for awhile.

"Great (expletive) kid," one scout said. "He'll knock the (expletive) out of you. Fast, explosive, not very smart. That's going to affect him on the next level." A different scout had this take: "There was a little knock on him learning the playbook early. Talking to people at Alabama, you're not going to throw an NFL playbook at him Day 1. But in time he will learn it. When he learns it he can retain it." Ragland recorded 220 tackles for the Tide. "When he hits people they stop right there," a third scout said. "He's a plugger. Good reading through hats, diagnosing quick. He can get sideline to sideline tracking people down." A fourth scout questioned if Ragland can become good enough at coverage to be a three-down linebacker. -JSonline

I like Drew Kaser out of Texas A&M. I can see him as a 6th or even 7th round pick by TT. TT had to see how horrible Masthay was last season when we needed him.  Hoping for Kaser to be in Green and Gold this season.

Deion Jones as well. Just lacks experience.

Deion Jones: If the Packers aren't sold on Ragland (it was rumored the Packers front office was split on Ragland), the Packers could go more modern and select Jones, who definitely fits the mold of the modern inside linebacker.  While some people may have some concerns about having only one year of starting experience, Jones was fantastic in that one year logging 100 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble.  Add to that leadership qualities and high football IQ and you have a player like Darron Lee who can cover in the NFLs spread/passing offense.
