Sorry but if you're following along, repeating the same comeback over and over to get the last word is hardly a "butt****ing."  But yeah this is definitely turning weird.

Randy Wright.

Randy 'Wrong' once said "... don't ask what is in my head, there is nothing there."  When responding to a question about if the defense got into his head during the game.  That is my favorite RW quote.

Excited to see what happens with Hundley.  I really liked him at UCLA and always got the feeling he was being held back by the offensively inept Jim Mora Jr.  Hundley was just too good his freshmen year and too athletically talented to progress so little those next 2 years (especially with zero issues above the shoulders).  Seems like he's finally getting some coaching, so let's hope it keeps up so after his third preseason, we can trade him for something nice.

As for Gunter, I was pissed we didn't see more of him last year.  Just made no sense to me to let him ride the bench.  Same way I feel about Jayrone Elliott.  But back to Gunter, his 4.7 forty will follow him until he shows something in real game action.  Excited to see him in camp as well.  The future is bright in the secondary.

Interesting draft profile which projected him as a 4th -5th round pick. They compare him to Josh Norman;

If he had run a 4.5 forty, he probably goes in the second round.  But a 4.7 for a corner almost guarantees undrafted status.  hopefully he can be the exception though, as he seems to have incredible instincts an technique so far.

One thing that really irks me about Dom.......his unwillingness to give young, unheralded guys a shot early in their careers.  Highly drafted guys get all the opportunity, but guys after the 5th round have to show it in practice for years before they see regular season action (or get lucky with injuries). We saw it with Des Bishop and IMO, we're seeing it again with Jayrone Elliott.  I hope we don't have to go through it with Gunter too.

No need to rush Gunter.  Randall and Rollins need to get their snaps too.  I highly doubt that if Gunter was looking better than those 2 that Dom wouldn't play him because of draft status.  Bishop wasn't ready as soon as he though he was either.  He was very inconsistent early on and that is a big detriment to what DC and MM value in an ILB, wrong or right.  IOW, it wasn't his draft ranking that kept him on the bench.

Like Sam Shields?  Frank Zombo?  Mike Pennel?

I understand this thinking, but I'd bet there is a lot more to it than just Dom not wanting to give guys a shot. Ultimately it is Dom's decision, but the position coach needs to be campaigning for this guy over that guy when the need for change is apparent.

I think for a lot of coaches they go back to the old Pop Warner quote: "You play the way you practice."

We see the highlight reels from practice where he's grabbing INTs, but just like with White Lightning Janis we have no clue where he's at from a mental side. He may be fine and dandy and good to go, but he's still behind Shields, Randall, and Rollins (being 4 deep with really good CBs is best case scenario). In 2015 he was behind those 3 plus Hayward, so he was relegated to the #5 CB. There aren't a ton of situations where the #5 CB gets on the field other than brief rotations, injury or late game hail mary. I would say Gunter probably saw the field as often as any other #5 CB in the NFL last year. And just like with White Lightning, it's not like we are being deprived of seeing some incredible talent. We are not forcing Herb Adderley to sit behind inferior players, just like we're not forcing Jerry Rice to sit behind a bunch of losers. If Gunter was THAT good, he would force the issue and they would play him (just like Shields did in 2010 albeit he had less depth to climb through).
