Might be the best secondary in the league - if not certainly one of the deepest in terms of quantity and quality.  The Brice kid looks like he can play.

Typically with DBs - especially corners- they either come in right away and show ability or they don't.  Think Mike McKenzie and Darren Sharper and Casey Hayward and certainly Rollins and Randall fit the bill as well.

It says something when they let a guy like Hayward walk and make no attempt at all to resign him.

During the season gamepass gives you all the games in their replay option with Coaches View/All-22, condensed or full game, in game stats. IIRC, all games become available after the MNF game is done.

Gamepass is $99.99 for the year (through July of 2018)

I really was rooting for Pennell....

He really is not giving a good impression tonight.  Despite the NEED for DL, with his impending suspension, he's not helping himself...

I would love if TT could turn some of this excess DB talent in some more beef on Dline.  Don't need world beaters, just need guys that can hold.

How can they lose some of these guys? I can't believe TT can't wangle a lower round draft choice for some of those DBs. Hawkins and Brice can play in this league.

Won't happen unless more than one team has the need and a seller's market develops. If watching teams' behavior around the final cutdown period has shown me anything it's that nearly every organization is willing to tempt fate and wait for a waiver pickup. There are a lot of players on the street to choose from right after the Turk gets done trimming to 53.

James Jones. GBP had a huge need and waited to pick up a proven vet off the street. Doubt anyone will be trading even a 7th for an UDFA who went All Oneida during the pre-season. Having said that, Thompson will probably finagle a 6th out of their (apparent) DB riches.

Martinez is looking pretty good IMO, I just wish they'd give him a different number:

Rookie LB Blake Martinez got the longest stint among the defensive starters and finished with four tackles. Only safety Marwin Evans (five tackles) had more for the Packers in Thursday's 20-12 win over the Raiders.

I use it my self, when Iam on the road. Well worth the money

Fair amount of angst about the lack of pressure in a preseason game

Bonus points to anybody who knows why ?

Packers 3-4 defense is predicated on confusion and hesitation - you don't know which guys are coming or from where. In the vanilla world of August football, there is no subterfuge as the coaches want to see if these DL can beat their guy. Fackrell has a really quick first step, OLs know this and set outside to prevent getting beat. Fackrell and his coaches want to see the counter moves, the set-up etc. Same with the others. Its time to try new individual moves as opposed to the orchestrated chaos unleashed in the regular season

They are also playing run first quite heavily vs oaktown, again a nod to how this defense operates. Stuff the run, make em 1 dimensional and then release the hounds. Last year, GB couldn't handle step 1 so they are very focused on that in preseason.

Try not get too verklempt in August

Though I realize it's been 2 preseason games, a sign your team is pretty good is when you dominate through your 1st-3rd stringers in both games. This team has some quality depth. And no, we could not always say that in previous years. From the OL to LB to DBs, there is solid talent behind these starters. Gone are the Frank Zombos, Greg Van Rottens, Vic So'otos, Etc.  While I always hope this team stays healthy, the thought of injuries doesn't make me nearly as nervous as it used to

Agree, Packerboi.   I remember some of those pre-season games during our SuperBowl window of 1995-97.  We had talent and depth on most defensive positions.  I know winning didn't mean much in the pre-season, but we did seem to dominate at times then...even with 2nd-3rd Stringers!     So, maybe this is a good omen (for a change!).

I hope beyond all manner of hope the starting OL stays healthy. They pushed Oakland around. Eddie averaged 5 per carry. 14 play opening drive and Eddie carried 9 times. He owned that drive.

Watch the first highlight play. It's damn near perfect blocking. Tretter stones his man. Sitton turns his man outside. Rip gets to Heeny fast. That's a 7 man front on second and 10. Great call and execution.

You add Aaron Rodgers to that with Cook. With Jordy outside.

C'mon man. This offense should be completely unstoppable. Like we've never seen before. But they've got to stay healthy.

The problem might be that we score too quickly and the defense won't get a rest.

Then the Defense will keep getting quick turnovers and the offense won't get enough rest.

It is going to be very interesting to watch the season unfold. IF we can keep the offense fairly healthy, we seem capable of averaging 30+ points per game. However, questions that will not be answered until season begins include;

-- If Tretter continues to start at center, will he be able to handle some of the bigger premier NTs. More athletic & better at combo blocks / getting to the second level than Linsley, Linsley anchors better when larger NTs are over him.

-- Will Bak continue to show the improvement he has yearly & handle the best pass rushers (and if not will MM still be reluctant to give him help)

-- Will teams be able to use press coverage to take away AR's first look, with two safeties over the top.

-- Will we be able to hit big plays to make defenses pay for employing that defense by having receivers who can win outside the hash marks / down the seam.

--  If teams go back to "selling out" to stop our big plays, make us run the ball, hit short routes, etc. will we be able to score TDs in the Red Zone.

Crazy that it seems like things went "off the rails" last season, even though we went 10-6 & almost played in NFC championship game. Things just appear to be much "tighter" this year, multiple players losing excess body fat, other players gaining muscle. No big injuries as of yet, defensive talent looks better, can't wait until games are for real.

Not ready to declare the offense a juggernaut until my big question gets answered-  Jordy. Not a given he's going to pick up where he left off given his age and the injury, although I remain optimistic he'll be pretty close.

I hope we learned from mistakes made last year and I think our backups will be better.

1 - Don't play Sitton at LT.  It hurts two positions.  If a tackle goes down, it's Spriggs or maybe Murphy.  Barclay needs to go. If the replacement struggles, don't be so GD stubborn and give him help.

2 - If a guard goes down we have the choice of Walker or Linsley.   Walker seems like the obvious choice but with Linsley' strenght he could do it.

As I recall the main issue last year was Barclay.   He was a turnstile and MM refused to give him help.

I was thinking about Brett Hundley and his inability to stay healthy so far this year.  I came to the conclusion he needs to change numbers.  The Majic Man once wore number 7 - and look what happened to him.

Reason 1A why Masthay will most likely be the punter this year. Walsh was money when Kluwe was his holder and has been sporadic as heck since Locke became the guy.

You can say kickers are weird all you want, but when the game is on the line, you need them and making sure they have their holder, bankey, stuffed mushroom, whatever is something teams have to deal with. It would probably take a total meltdown for Masthay to be released unless Crosby is cool with someone else at the spot.
