The reason ginger was much more glaring last season was because this offense sputtered after week 6. If you go back to 2014, his punts weren't a lot better. But just like winning, scoring mass points hides a lot. This team could very well score 30 points a game if they stay healthy. And if I remember right, in those seasons where GB's offense was clicking well, GB had multiple games where they didn't punt once.

Thus the reason why his ability to hold for Crosby weighs more heavily then it would on other teams and why his poor punting really never stood out.

Herschel posted:

Reason 1A why Masthay will most likely be the punter this year. Walsh was money when Kluwe was his holder and has been sporadic as heck since Locke became the guy.

1B: "They’ve punted in six practices against a rush. Masthay’s average hang time is 4.41 seconds in 31 punts whereas Mortell’s is 4.07 in 28 punts." big diff

Tavecchio helped Crosby get his mind right. Maybe Mortell does the same for Ginger. The real prospect of losing your job is a great way to figure out mental makeup.

Could be worse. Bucs drafted a kicker in the second round and he's looking like a head case. To the point he's talking to Ryan Longwell for help. That's not good.

Not working it seems.
