JPP could still be explosive
even if he only provided single digit sack numbers
free agency isnt an exact science more like a finger in the wind approach

I see what you did there.
I'd imagine the Packers like their roster/options and don't see them going for any of the remaining FAs until, at a minimum, a few games into the season. Gives them time to evaluate during real games and see if/where deficiencies are.
Could be rong, but any FA vet signed now who makes the final 53 for week one has their pay guaranteed for the year. However, if signed after week one their pay is not guaranteed. So, if they don't pan out for any reason they can be released with a much lesser financial hit. Thus, if Gutie adds any FA it would likely be after week one.

Indeed.
And both the vet players and their agents are acutely aware of this...and will use it to their advantage in negotiating deals.
Team A says " We'll wait until after game 1"
Team B says " we'll sign him now"
Sometimes, that's The Decider. The flip side for both the player and the teams is that any of them may sustain an injury that changes their needs/focus and or opens up new opportunities that weren't there before.
Its a game of chicken & musical chairs around the league.
End of the day, they've all got decisions to make and must remember:
A bird in the hand isn't better than a hand in the bush
its tough to sign a spot with lots of thinking at this point, DE is fairly easy, see QB hit QB...flowers is interesting. I think Jpp wants too much $$$ same with suh.
Unless an injury forces his hand, the only thing I see Gutey doing is scouring the scrap heap at the final cutdown to marginally improve the roster. All those players have been available and he would have already kicked the tires if any real interest was there.

Not that a player would sign for a small amount, but I think this would be pretty easy to work through. A team would offer a base contract with incentives. Don't know what the vet minimum would be, but it would be fairly easy to absorb should the player end up getting cut.
That said, I think a lot of these players would prefer to "wait and see". Most probably have no desire to be in any training camp. Once the season starts and teams have injuries, underproduction, etc, those FAs are in a much better position to negotiate.
JPP, Flowers and Sanders are worth some tire kicking. Sanders can still be productive when Cobb or Watkins get banged up and a third edge rusher for some rotation snaps would be helpful at some point.

Here's a twitter feed from Dusty Evely.
He does a ton of film study and here are his comments on Caleb Jones
"Watched Caleb Jones' snaps from the 2nd preseason game and I have some thoughts: Love the potential. Tremendous size and some great power that goes with it. His initial punch is insane, and when he's road-grading on runs it's really something to watch.
However...SUPER raw. He's got power but loses leverage pretty easily. Needs to learn to play a little more within his base. When he gets in space it gets pretty dicey. More than one whiff on a block. Trouble lining guys up. Seems like he gets caught thinking a little too hard.
Certainly had some solid moments against the Saints, but I feel like he would get torn to shreds against starters at this point. That being said, when he really locks on in the run game or lands a punch in pass pro, it's stunning to watch."

Dude gets rocked, recovers and makes the play.

Training camp is winding down, our thoughts drift toward the opener in minny
MLF is 2-1 in that stadium and that played a part in sending Zimmer packing
Hey O'Connell, who's the new boss of the NFC North?
Same as the old boss...Best you get used to looking up at the Packers
Cool shot of Bahk taking on Caleb Jones
And then...Caleb Jones locking out Bahk with those tree trunk arms

Elgton Jenkins initially did not want to talk in the locker room but then came back to and me so we could ask him about missing practice yesterday. He said it was not contract related.β Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) August 29, 2022
He also said it wasnβt because of the shoulder brace Iβve never seen him wear before. We were previously told it was not related to his ACL recovery.
Whatever the case, he was back today.
(As an aside, David Bakhtiari walked by and said itβs the contact)

You have an aura of Eeyore.
Oh my, heβs Irish??? βοΈ. And kind cute, not as handsome as our man, but he is a lot nicer looking then that blind coach they had. π π€£ π
O'Connell reminds me of Bill Paxson from the Aliens movie.
Are you sure about the pulse being needed?
Goldie puts the romance in necromancy.
Not Goldie, and not Beef.
Someone in the south I believe.

Davidβs joke aside. I thought about that. Perhaps they were holding him out of practice because a trade for him was being considered. They did not want him injured. Then it might have fell through. Jenkins tweet might have been made in the middle of that process before it fell through and why it was deleted later.

I will be there for the opening game. Damn I hope MLF will make it 3-1 there.
Not sure why I decided to torture myself going to that stadium.

Must have missed it....what did Jenkins' tweet say?

I donβt have Twitter and it was deleted right away. I hate to paraphrase it without seeing it again. The tone of it was odd and seem to reflect a possible change in environment.
I am sure one of the smart people here could dig it up. I lack in that area.

Gutekunst on the #Packers' O-line:
"I like our group. We have some very established players in our room. I think we have enough depth there. I really like the youth. It's been nice getting those two tackles back."
that suggests...Jenkins to RT and Newman at RG
Looks like Rudy Ford might be another STβs pick up.
Ford is an elite athlete. He posted a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 9.19 coming out of Auburn in 2017, with a 4.40-second 40-yard dash and 20 reps on the bench press.

Wouldn't be surprised if Tom supplants Newman at some point.

Fucking Newman... Tom can't play RG?
@BrainDed posted:Fucking Newman... Tom can't play RG?
I'm sure he can, but its just not his frame/game. Tom has really good feet and can move laterally better than most. Great for an OT. But the price for those quick feet is his "smaller" legs - he just doesn't have the drive power of an NFL OG, yet
Newman was lighter-legged too, but he's had a year+ in the strength and conditioning program and should be a better choice in 2022.
These 4th round guys don't have NFL bodies when they arrive, but they're being asked to take on Pro DL. If you have quick feet- you can make it work at OT, but brute strength is more important for OGs.
Bakhtiari and Jenkins are both practicing today....

It used to be the other way around. Back in the 60's and 70's you wanted quicker guards who could pull on the sweeps and such. Forrest Gregg was much stronger that Jerry Kramer. Jerry used to tell Forrest that he was going to switch to tackle when Forrest retired so he wouldn't have to run as much. Same on the other side of the Packer line. Skronski was bigger and stronger than Fuzzy.
