from camp today

"So far for Tyler Davis today: Big play over the middle on a seam route from Love. Td catch in back of end zone from Rodgers over the middle. Sliding td catch from Love in red zone."

Here's some highlights and commentary from last year on Davis - shows why the Packers have confidence in the guy. And Bisaccia was very complimentary of his ST work in 2021.  His 2022 TC has been abysmal, but that's not the entire Tyler Davis story

He's kicked really well.

We don't discuss this enough, but I can't help but wonder if our new ST's coach Richie Rich has noticed from film study the last couple of years that Crosby can't kick off all that well anymore.

It's gone on for years, but few comment on it because ST's is such a dumpster fire in so many other ways.

In addition to the missed field goals, at 37-years-old, it does look like Crosby has lost some power. As already mentioned, he specifically struggled on field goal attempts of 40 or more yards, but on kickoffs, he routinely failed to get the ball to the end zone, which was not helpful for one of the NFL’s worst kick coverage units.

According to PFF ($$), Crosby’s kickoff return rate of 55% was the fourth-most last season, and his 43 touchbacks were the seventh-fewest. Hopefully, we see the kick coverage unit improve in 2022, but giving the opponent fewer opportunities would help as well.

I’m sure Van Lanen would welcome the opportunity to showcase his talents with Jacksonville rather than be relegated to the PS at best. He wasn’t gonna get much more of an opportunity in GB.

If a team is willing to trade a draft pick for a player you had targeted for your PS you take it, because it means they wouldn't have cleared waivers anyway.

I'm sure the old man has lost some power - and he's coming off knee surgery

But keep in mind that many ST coaches, including Bisaccia, will instruct their kickers to aim short. They want a guy returning it from the 2 because there's a good chance the cover team will either stop him short , cause a fumble or get the receiving team to commit a penalty.

So some of Mason's "shorter" kickoffs were by design. ST coach decides each day based on weather, wind direction, opponent ST and score. When GB drafted punter JK Scott - there was some hope that he'd eventually handle Kickoffs too and lessen the load on Mason
Crosby has his limitations, but I think he's still "adequate" enough in warm weather where its not an issue. In the cold...??? they all struggle with length

Also: One of the very 1st things Bisaccia did upon arrival in March - was to get an uber-reliable placeholder. So my guess is he's gonna roll with Crosby and try to squeeze one more (championship) season out of the veteran.

It's often repeated every TC that the D starts out ahead because the O has a lot more play/scheme install.

Indeed
And they've been playing musical chairs all August - trying to get film of everybody in multiple positions. OL is the one unit where cohesiveness is HUGE -  and they don't have that in TC.

Next week's practice should be revealing as far as the starting OL for minny
My guess is:
Yes - Jenkins
Not Yet - Bakh  ( because minny turf sucks balls)

They may think twice about rolling Jenkins out on that rug too for a WK01 game.  That's where he tore the ACL.

from Crosby today, he plans to be ready for opener

β€œI kicked today three or five times with footballs,” Crosby said after practice Tuesday. β€œThis is where I wanted to be. I’m hitting all the targets that we set. Hopefully, the swelling will stay down, and I’ll keep stacking things and moving forward.”

According to Andy Herman of Packer Report'

Green Bay opened practice with a 21 personnel offense that featured running backs AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones, receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs and tight end Marcedes Lewis as the team’s skill players.

Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich has mentioned frequently that the team wants to get Dillon and Jones on the field together, but we haven’t seen any two-back sets this summer on video, outside of a few reps on Family Night.

So, if you were Gutey and another GM called about Love, what would be your price tag.
Or would you simply tell them Love can't be had at any price and hang up.

Depends on what sales technique you want to use.  I’d use the slam the door in the face technique.  Hit β€˜em with something ridiculous which they’ll turn down, and then offer something that’s still a little ridiculous but sounds reasonable compared to the original offer.  So I’d say three firsts, one each in 2023, 2025 & 2025.  When that gets turned down, I’d ask for a second round pick in 2023 and we’ll throw in Amari Rodgers. 😁

If you are Gutey, are you kicking tires on any of these dudes prior to getting to your 53?
