The Packers gain 13MM in cap space in 2019 if they don’t bring back Matthews and Cobb and Dix.  They would net another 12MM by cutting Bulaga and Tramon and if they really got aggressive they could release Daniels and pick up almost another 9MM.  In total that’s almost 35MM or enough to go out and sign 2 impact free agents.

You mean like Mike Daniels and Clay Matthews?

So who exactly would be left?  I don't think the Packers have 35 draft picks next year.

....yet.

I missed a lot of the second half of last season because of newborn twins so I admit I didn't see how bad everyone said HHCD played.  What I saw of him before last season was solid/pretty good.  So I gave him the benefit of the doubt coming into this season, especially with the change in DC.  But I could only shake my head at some of his plays yesterday.  He reminded me of MD Jennings.  I had to look that name up.

It just so happens that OL and safety feature some real studs in free agency (at least for now) and one of those guys is Earl Thomas.  He’s clearly disgruntled in Seattle, and not sure he’d want to play in GB, but it’s very reminiscent of C Woods situation albeit 21 got to free agency whereas I think if GB wanted him they would need to trade and sign him before hitting the open market.

In any event, the Packers would have cap space and the draft picks to do it.

Earl Thomas will remain in Seattle until Dallas either trades for him or signs him in FA. Dude ain’t coming to GB.

In the Packers situation they chose to pay Rodgers 30MM a year.  Given his talent and experience he’s worth it.   The problem is you can’t afford to pay above average guys like Matthews and Daniels what they are making and you sure as **** can’t afford to pay average players like Cobb and Dix and Tramon and Bulaga what they are making.  Take off the G&G glasses and think objectively.

In 2019, Rodgers, Bahktari, Perry, and Graham are paid like elite players.  Everyone else needs to check themselves. Gute has his work cut out for him.

I know he's always had a big mouth.  I guess my point is that the guy's play has fallen off quite a bit in short order.

Interestingly enough, Mike Daniels is exactly 2 days older than Earl Thomas.

I've been riding CM's ass this season, but I like the energy he has played with.  He has goose eggs in the sack department but hasn't he had 3 sacks negated now on BS calls?

TT should have been cut loose several years ago.  It’s obvious to me Thompson’s best days were behind him otherwise how can you explain the 2015-2017 drafts?  The Martellius Bennett signing?  Hanging onto MM and Capers for as long as they did?

Much like the Gary Anderson hiccup at Wisconsin it’s going to take the Packers a few years to catch up to restock the talent pipeline that was there.  The good news is Gute is off to a decent start but you can’t make up for 3 bad drafts in 1 offseason.  And a lame duck HC.

I hate to say it but perhaps the best thing they should do is sit Rodgers until he recovers and if they end up tanking that’s OK because we need the draft picks to be high enough to add more impact players.  It’s highly unlikely they bring back Cobb and Dix and CMIII so there’s a few more slots to fill.

Your fantasy football team may be called the Green Bay Packers but the real Green Bay Packers are not fantasy football.   And that is what you are projecting, fantasy football.

Yes it’s fantasy football.  It’s called managing the cap not Madden 2019.

Just pay everyone and **** the cap.  Pay Daniels like he’s Geno Atkins.  Pay Cobb like he’s Odell.  Pay Tramon like he’s who?

Herb Kohl would be proud.  Nobody overvalues our players like our fans.  We’re #1!!  Scoreboard biatches

Gute had a good 2018 draft but he needs a good 2019 and 2020 draft to make up for TTs incompetence for the last 3 years.

Pretty sure the same "Keep MM" guys were also large supporters of TT until the bitter end... yet now the consensus is basically that TT sucked for the last several years and set the franchise back.

Asking who would you replace MM with is a lazy ass question.  I don't need to know what coaching talent is out there to know that the guy that's been doing it for 12 years in GB with the greatest QB to ever play the game flat out isn't getting the damn job done.

I was a huge TT supporter.  Probably to a fault.  ROTTT.  Trust in TT.  Then he totally ****ed up the last 3 years.  Doesn’t erase what he did prior as we would not have won SB 45 without him.  But Murphy waited too damn long to make a move.

MM has skated by the same way. Maybe worse.   He’s the sole survivor but maybe shouldn’t be.

Without the 3 penalties, 1 was legit, Clay would be having a good start to any year.

Perry is the stiff that anyone should be bitching about.

Losing Wilkerson may suck, but then again, after flashing in a game and a half, Adams needs to show why he was drafted.  But no, we get Lowry this past weekend.

Jones looks to be a bust so far.  HHCD, who knows WTF happened to him.  Anyone who has any idea of what Safety play should be understands what's going on with Brice.   I didn't think Whitehead should have made the 53.

Spriggs, and whoever behind McCray now.  Refusal to give AJ touches.

It's early, but we have plenty to worry about.   It's time for some common sense and some moves to give some hope to this season.

Are there any easy or reasonable ones to make at this point?  I doubt it.  But hey.

Clay Matthews and Mike Daniels are not impact players

Or, to put it bluntly, are not worth 22MM collectively

The Packers are a business, not a charity organization.  Mike Daniels might be the biggest tease in Packers history.  CMIII is 3 years removed from being a game changer.

Clay Matthews play against the Vikings should have sealed the game. That's what impact players do. His sack yesterday should have been a huge momentum swing. That's an impact play. He forced the interception last year in the Browns game in OT. Who else on the Packers defense has made an impact play recently that you can remember? It's CM3 or nobody.

He makes 13 million this year. I would bet he gets at least 10 million a year on the open market and maybe as much as 15 million. He's not dramatically overpaid. He's not the 2010 version of Matthews, but he's the one guy other offensive coordinators probably worry about (and maybe Kenny Clark).

Now when contract talks come up this summer and he asks for 40 million for the next 3 years or something like that you have to let him walk.

Good points for sure.  I'm guilty of bagging on CM but the reality is if CM doesn't make a play, chances are nobody does.

Also, how many games the last 3 years has he had to play ILB (or play extra snaps instead of being rested for prime pass rushing situations) because of the draft picks TT made at LB that ranged from average at best (Jake Ryan, Martinez) to stinking piles of horse**** (Biegel, Carl Bradford, Fackrell)? Nick Perry probably made a lot of money because he was on the field with CM3.

It's more and more apparent that TT was off his game the last few years. It not only shows up directly in the play of the guys I listed above and guys like Spriggs. It's the extra snaps guys like CM3 have to play because they can't afford to have them take any plays off. Maybe if Fackrell/Biegel/etc. are semi-competent, CM3 can rest an extra 6-8 snaps a game and be fresh for the 4th quarter.

Or maybe some guys on the OL don't rush back a little early from injury because the coaches know there is a competent backup that won't get Rodgers killed (unlike Spriggs, McCray, etc.).

OK.

This is getting absurd.  But, I get how the human response is and the general disposition of society.

Again, common sense is forsaken for hindsight ranting.

TT, without argument, was off his game.  Continually ranting about that fact does NOTHING for the current or future blatherings for this team.

Why certain people continue to hem and haw the same tired dead horse beating dispositions befuddles me.

So what.

Who cares.

It is what it is.  You might as well whine why you didn't get a kiss at your junior high fire and ice dance.  It's not different than Hank continually bitching about MM3.

Telling everyone that disagrees with you and you were smarter and always know better just is tiring and wrong.  Telling people how they should think is tiring and wrong.

Get a ****ing grip.

Everyone.

Nick Perry in the concussion protocol.

Man that guy is softer than Glass Joe in the old Mike Tyson punch out game dang.

So I finally have been able to get on here after getting back from DC and the game.   What I saw as + and - from section 139.

- Soft defense.  Jesus they played way off the receivers, the safeties (I think they had safeties on the field) could not cover the TE.  I mean the TE would get off the line untouched and just be so wide open is was insane.

The Packers receivers just couldn't get open.  AR typically had time to throw but no one was getting open.

Injuries.  I don't think I can say more about it other than it just seems like the Packers get hit with the injury bug more than other teams

Clays roughing the passer call in person was crazy.  It happened right in front of me and as I am sure it has been discussed on here it was a text book tackle.  Heck even the Redskins fans booed that call.  And they booed it LOUDLY.

The scouting report on Washington coming in was their WRs may not have been as explosive (no Garcin or Jackson) but Reed and an older Davis are still very good and they did not account for those guys at all.  6 catches and 135 yards between them.

We all saw the schit show (safety play and Cobb specifically) in other factors of the game but what an absolute dud of an effort overall.  Was not expecting them to lay an egg this week but they did.

It will be interesting to see how they respond this week given the Bills big win and Packers need to get a W.  If the Packers want to do something this season they need to win this one.  Hoping to see a better effort against Buffalo but others need to step up.

Spriggs n McCray putting on a two man blocking clinic.

Neither is very good on their own. It looks like their suck powers are magnified the closer they get to the other. Fascinating.

Jesus **** that's bad. Spriggs was in a good position, good drop, probably could have been lower, but it's like as soon as Kerrigan touched him he just melted. Kerrigan might as well have been pushing a curtain to the side. I'm not sure McCray's was that bad, if Spriggs hadn't been tossed aside like a pillow and Rodgers had been able to step up in the pocket I think he would have held up.
