Clay is up to 6 tackles this year, zeros make up the rest of his stat line. If you give him the 2 bad calls and I do, that gives him 8 difference making play.s. I realize he creates some mayhem and match up problems over and above his stats but considering all the time he is on the field we need more. As a team leader I bet he agrees.
Tschmack posted:The scouting report on Washington coming in was their WRs may not have been as explosive (no Garcin or Jackson) but Reed and an older Davis are still very good and they did not account for those guys at all. 6 catches and 135 yards between them.
We all saw the schit show (safety play and Cobb specifically) in other factors of the game but what an absolute dud of an effort overall. Was not expecting them to lay an egg this week but they did.
It will be interesting to see how they respond this week given the Bills big win and Packers need to get a W. If the Packers want to do something this season they need to win this one. Hoping to see a better effort against Buffalo but others need to step up.
When I first saw the schedule and saw the Bills (and especially how they started the year) I thought that this game would basically be a bye week. Not anymore IMHO and this one is a must win.

Neither is very good on their own. It looks like their suck powers are magnified the closer they get to the other. Fascinating.
He looked like Kerrigan jumped out of a box and scared him.

MM today says Brice is fine as a starter.
We do what we do.
Any chance on a subconscious level he's undermining himself? Wants out, like Haha, and is going the passive-aggressive path?

I'm pulling for Whitehead. They highlighted one play where the defense stopped a quick cross across middle and the person in perfect position was Whitehead.
Whitehead has also been effective on the blitz.
YATittle posted:Whitehead has also been effective on the blitz.
His one bad play was the Smith scramble where it looked like he tried to knock the ball out instead of hit him and stop him short of the first down. Maybe everyone is just so scared to hit a QB? Clay makes 13 million - a 20K fine for him still sucks, but it isn't like 20K for a guy making the minimum like Whitehead.

Except that the turnstile puts up a little bit of resistance when you first push against it.
just re-watched that hot mess. every member of the secondary was roasted at least once, granted, the o left a lot on the field, no doubt. but this was a classic gb d - just got toasted. if i look at the lb's - 42 is the only hope (obe-wan), 50 is slow to react and slow in coverage. 42 is fast enough to diagnose, he can play that position with what you need. so as soon as that dude can get more reps, the better. i can't believe 52 got roasted in coverage the way he did, so really - let's recap, 95% of the time, he stands up and gets enveloped or the play goes away from him, the other 5 he is getting out of position, missing tackles or getting outrun. perry, i don't even know wtf with this guy. 21 is really confused most of the time. its awful to watch. i was really excited about this d. i don't even mind watching 27 and 37 getting their licks, because when they are beat, its on a 'better' football play and not a mistake of some kind. sick of it. hot garbage.
PKR North, I can tell you what I saw in person and there were numorous times a Packers defensive player would look over a the sidelines with a confused look and waving their arms as if to say "well what's the call?" To me there seemed to be that confusion and just a lack of aggresive and physical football.
Whole new D system and a bunch of rookies starting and people are surprised by this?
We are going to look at the film, make some adjustments, address the communications, fix the pad level and get that cleaned up.
The only way to fix the pad level on Spriggs and McCray is to put them back in storage. Spriggs looked like he was surprised there was a guy coming at him. McCray tried, but... Evans would have looked a whole lot better.
On defense I got tired of hearing (couldn't watch the game) "pass complete over the middle," "pass complete over the middle," over and over again. I was wondering if there were any safeties and ILBs on the field.
But donât worry, MM has a plan....
and the practices will go well and be well organized...
They will be better this week, as has been mentioned this is a new system with some new players, can't expect guys who have been playing football all their lives to pick this stuff up quickly. So far they only have had 2 months of practice, meetings and games to pick it up.
does the system include missing tackles and terrible angles?
Put Pettine on the sideline so he can knock some sense into them.
pkr_north posted:does the system include missing tackles and terrible angles?
Nope. That's clearly a problem. But missed tackles are a problem across the league. Limiting contact practices in TC can do that. Which also strains a D learning a new system. What's MIN's excuse for giving up 27 to BUF? They've played the same system and the same all world players for 3 or more years now.
I read somewhere on the internet that new offense-tilted rules are making it harder and harder for defenses to execute. Huh.

fair comment. most points scored ever in the nfl, i wonder why.
+ : Thanks to this game (really the last two Packer games) the competition committee is getting together to discuss the new roughing the QB rules. Once again, just like during the replacement ref fiasco, the Packers will fall on their sword to make things better for the rest of the league.
Edit to add:
You know your starting safeties are a steaming pile of crap when fans are asking to see more Whitehead.
I had high hopes for Brice, Iâve never been more wrong.

Edit to add:
It seems like last nights nationally televised RTP fiasco shook the NFL tree pretty hard. Lots of current NFL defensive players took to social media last night wondering why Big Ben gets a roughing call for an inadvertent slight brushing of the helmet while Vance McDonald can fully place his hand on Chris Contes helmet and deliberately push his soul into the abyss (still love that it was Chris Conte. What are the odds)
Tough for the NFL to put the toothpaste back in the tube after selling safety though. Maybe an untraceable directive to the refs to relax with the flags.
Lets never forget this is all Anthony Barrâs fault.
From Brian Baldinger. Iâve been amazed at the genius and simplicity of the this design for two days. There is nothing complicated happening here. Itâs a TE screen. But threat sells everything that happens. Tyreek Hill makes this entire play work.
Green Bay has the players on offense to replicate this. MVS is Hill. Aaron Jones is Hunt on the flat wheel. Graham has open field.
Run this play a few times and throw it to MVS so itâs on film. Then donât.

wonder the exact same thing, there is some accountability with the DC on the sideline, you have to look him in the eye. i think it matters
The immortal Chris Conte of Randall Cobb fame. Or infamy. Oh the humanity.
Whatâs shocking is that heâs still twice the safety that Sendejo! Is in Minnesduh. Oh where or where have all the good DBs gone?
I saw Pettine in a presser talking about why he is in booth. Said that he is much more capable of calling defense from that vantage point & can access all of his play cards, notes, etc. and would be unable to do that on sideline.

ya, i heard that too, he said that after he got hired. its bs, mm should tell him to be on the sideline end of story. insulation from the action is no bueno in my opinion, same with philbin, i never see that dude around, like ever.

Tramon Williams pointed to the middle of the field to Dix for inside help because he knew film and thatâs where Crowder was going on the TD on 1st and 10 with 4 left in the 1st half. Tramon telegraphed a pick to Dix. He pointed it out!
Dix stayed outside the middle for reasons unexplainable to every definable rule of roll coverage while Alex Smith stared down Crowder while Reed ran a dummy route with Brice in cat coverage.
GB needs a safety. Reid. Thomas. Donât care. Just. Need. A. Safety.

Tramon is not a safety. But he might be the best one on the team.
Packers have been outscored 52-27 in the first half after 3 weeks.
Get your head out of your ass Mike and get your team focused.

Yeah, McVince should decide how a DC runs the defense. Worked well before.
Interesting review of the offensive plays vs WAS. Some here claimed our WR's were never open or the play calls were all bad. Sounds like execution (often simply throwing the ball to the open guy) was the biggest problem. And of course drops.
Good read. I'd like to see more clips, but I get the idea. The Allison route and TD was a thing of beauty!
https://packerswire.usatoday.c...gn=rail-most-popular
Not only has Allison been productive, but heâs been efficient: Aaron Rodgers has a perfect passer rating (158.3) when targeting him this season.
Rodgersâ numbers when throwing to Allison in 2018: 12 of 15 for 207 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. (DeShone Kizer completed one of three passes when targeting Allison in the season opener.)
The numbers could be even better, but Rodgers skipped a ball low in the end zone to Allison at the end of a scramble drill on Sunday against the Redskins.
Still, the trust between the two is obvious. During each of the first three weeks, Rodgers connected with Allison for a third down conversion. After all three conversions, the Packers went on to score.
Two of Rodgersâ four longest completions this season have gone to Allison, including a 39-yard touchdown in the opener and Sundayâs 64-yard score in Washington.
Looking at pace numbers after such a small sample size is generally foolish, but Allison is currently on pace for 69 catches, 1,114 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2018. His breakout season is off to a terrific start.
I donât remember if I actually wrote it, but I was of the opinion that MM was at fault in not calling and designing plays for the WR to get open. I am glad to be wrong if I did. Now, letâs see it executed.
