I can't wait until cut-down day.
Not exactly a high character guy but he must have something left in the tank. I personally would do it considering depth at OLB stinks. Some team will over pay him though.
Discount double-check - CHAMPIONSHIP!!
It didn't help Brooks that SF switched to a 4-3 defense. He's a true 3-4 OLB pass rusher. Rueben Foster is also tearing it up at LB. Brooks is certainly better than any OLB depth currently in GB.
Too old and not good enough to justify the potential attitude problems. He's had trouble since he was in college and has had on-field and off-field problems in the league. He peaked in 2011 and has gone downhill since then. Pass.
I don't agree with the "downhill since 2011" comment. His numbers haven't changed at all since 2011. And they haven't changed as SF lost Aldon Smith, Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, and Bowman missed all kinds of time due to injuries. 2016 was one of Brooks better seasons in terms of sacks and combined tackles.
Im not saying Brooks is the missing key for the defense. But I'd much rather have him playing ROLB instead of Fackrell when Nick Perry misses a month.
It's a 2-way street. He has to want to come to Green Bay too
It ain't fantasy football
Valid point that Brooks may not be on board with a backup / rotational role. I could see Pete Carroll taking a long look at Brooks. Pete's currently got career underachiever (and former 49er) MIchael Wilhoite as his starting strong side LB.
Brooks wouldn't be a back up. He would be a rotational guy just like Peppers. Do you think Perry and Matthews are going to play every down? Are Elliot and Fackrell better options in that rotation? No.
At the right price, yes I'd go after him. Something tells me Brooks isn't one of those guys who wants a championship over a better contract.
^^^ Word.
I would kick the tires on Brooks as well. Then again, this is Ted we're talking about.
TT seemed to by OK living with Guion. I have to think he likely would improve the defense so I would definitely go after him. But, you know, of course I wouldβ¦
I'll take Brooks only if Ted forces me to.
Guaranteed someone will overpay him.

Thanks Ted.
This is unexpected: Free agent LB Ahmad Brooks has his first visit set and it's to the #Packers, source said. #Broncos also have interest

I'm guessing it's another Agent using Green Bay as bargaining power.
Damn your nimble fingers, Boris!
(That was my first thought, too.)
I'd like to see him signed and replace Peppers in the rotation. Sure he's a bad egg, but we could use him.
Found on the internet, this cautionary note: Brooks, who was released by San Francisco last week, has 10 years of NFL experience and 98 starts under his belt. Last season, Brooks played the most defensive snaps of any 49ers linebacker (981) and posted 53 tackles, six sacks, and a forced fumble. However, he graded as just the 87th-best edge rusher in the NFL out of 110 qualified players, per Pro Football Focus, has not ranked among the top-20 at his position since 2012.
OLB Ahmad Brooks wouldn't be coming to Green Bay for a visit if the #Packers weren't trying to sign him. Need to see him first, agree on $$.

I don't think so. OLB depth frickin' stinks and the "emerging" Elliot is already hurt.
YA, Brooks seems durable. That's a lot of games he played in. But is he worth the money and will he be better than Biegel and Gilbert? It's true that Perry and Elliott are injured and it's only a matter of time that the same could be said about Clay. So I am on the fence with this. I wonder what his workout looks like and how much $ he wants?

He's not a world beater but worth the fallback for the right money. With guys like Fackrell and Spriggs just falling off the map we may see some more TT action after cut downs.
My hope is the Dline is so disruptive even I could get sacks.
I will be honest that I don't have a complete grasp on NFL financials but at this point is money even an issue? It would be a one-year deal for whatever, correct? They have the money. Give it to him to improve the position...
TT seems surprisingly open to stopgap measures of late. Position of extreme need and how much the guy has left is probably a much bigger issue than the money.
I believe his contract was for $4.7 million and word is he won't get that from a new team. I'd be all in with a $2 million base and incentives such as games played ($50K each) and maybe individual and team incentives.

Now I'm completely sold on Brooks.
Like you were sold on Verner?
No. Like I was sold on Tori Gurley & Chastain West.
Being a 10 year vet and playing the most snaps on a D are probably not going to add up to being in the top half at any position much less LB. Where were Peppers stats the year before he came to GB? Not saying I expect Brooks to be another Peppers but age and overworked don't go well together.

Are you talking to me? I didn't even know you existed until a few minutes ago, but I'm glad you remember I everything I've written in the past. It's flattering. Thank you.
I don't remember everything you've written in the past. Just the really stupid ****.
Verner is competing for a starting job in Miami, so I'm guessing the "stupidest" thing I've ever written is still more insightful than anything you've ever contributed.
You know who's coaching him now. Yes?
YA, Brooks seems durable.
Hawk was durable, too.

Actually, Brooks came into the NFL the same year as AJ did (2006) and while Hawk was done as an even mediocre player 5 seasons ago Brooks looks to still have at least something left in the tank.
Also, unlike AJ, Brooks has made a few impact plays in his career and is not known mostly for jumping on piles well past the line of scrimmage.

Exactly. Desperate measures. The situation behind Perry and Matthews is looking about as bleak as it can get. Biegel hasn't played a down in the NFL so they have no idea what he can do, Fackrell is playing below sea level and now Elliot is having back spasms.
Back spasms: So the doctor is basically saying something like, "It might stop tomorrow or it might never stop." Something like that, right? Probably just temporary, but not exactly warm fuzzies on a guy they badly need consistency out of like yesterday.
I'm betting Ted does what it takes to get Brooks signed pronto.
