Tramon too.
More Hawk bashing. Just what we need.
Hawk has been better than he has the last couple years. I thought he was having one of his best seasons since '06/'07.
The read is garbage. Yeah,Hawk was not great last game, but damn near everyone else on D sucked as well. Other than that, he's looked pretty good.
Couldn't write an "11-5 record even in a worst case scenario" article if Hawk was lost for the season could you Bobby?!?!?!
Damn you McGinn!
Seems reports like this are the result of someone looking at stats and not actually watching the games/plays. Saying Tramon has been on the wrong side of "several" impact plays... my guess is that two of these several are the PI calls against him in the MIN game - both of which were ticky-tacky calls.
just an absurd thing to even write about.
I'm not even gonna bother reading it - it would provide the clicks the sensationalist desires.
McCrap strikes again.
he made the list because he hasn't been good.
Better than before, sure, still not great.
didn't bother to click the link
Not a bad bit. Brandon Weeden gets skewered petty hard, Trent Richardson and Mike Wallace also.
He's playing better than he has, but he'll always be a disappointment relative to his draft position. Certain expectations come with being the #5 overall pick and he hasn't met them and never will.
He made the list because some clown who has a job at SI is disappointed.
Maybe people should lower their expectations.

There was a link to click?!?....Yeah, I think I'll just ignore it

I think he isn't very good. I base that on so few impact plays (tackles for loss, turnovers, etc.). Anecdotally, he has been to easy to block, poor in coverage (middle of the field is a rose garden for opposing QB's) and slow to react to the ball carrier.
I have no intention of lowering my expectations.
I guess it is unfortunate for you that the Packers like him.
I guess it is unfortunate for you that the Packers like him.
I really don't know what you are getting at with this point. Is this just a "can't say anything critical about the Pack" sort of statement? Coaches spoke glowingly of Ross even after he was cut. Same with Coleman. Even following your logic, the guy was cut and took a pay cut to stay on the team, does that mean they liked him a little less?
I don't think Hawk has played well. I think the "best he's played" media meme is weak journalism. I won't apologize for having high expectations as fan. Packer fans are not Cubs fans.
EDIT- Boris point taken to heart. Hawk certainly does provide something to the defensive side of the ball. Pointing out his flaws on the field is not an indication that he does all bad.
A couple weeks ago everyone thought he was having a great year. Now all of a sudden he sucks again. He definitely isn't a great linebacker, but he was having a great year. One game is not going to change my mind on this year.
On a side note, it also makes me laugh how many fans have jumped off the bandwagon this year. Blaming everyone in the organization for something or other. Imagine how good this team would be without the injuries. To me that means everyone has done their job getting the 2013 Packers team together. Injuries are just part of the game and you can't foresee those. The Packers do take injuries to a whole different level though. That is why this team is in the position it is in.
Hawk's average, that's it.
I hate the Niners but if you want to watch a real ILB, it's NaVorro Bowman. Physical, can cover, game changer. He ran a 4.7 40 but plays plenty fast.
IMO, we are undersized at ILB, safety (Jennings) and our corners are poor tacklers and aren't physical. It really showed against the Bears.
What about for being a patriot?
Its incredible how an injury starting QB and the lack of a real backup QB makes everybody else, slow, undersized, underachiever, etc.
Crazy league.
I guess it is unfortunate for you that the Packers like him.
I really don't know what you are getting at with this point. Is this just a "can't say anything critical about the Pack" sort of statement? NO. I just believe he plays the position as he is instructed to do. I also believe you don't agree with any of my opinions and I am fine with that.

Call me a homer, but I expect the entire defense including AJ to play a pretty damn good game on Sunday. I just sense with CMIII back, maybe Perry too, they want to send a statement they can carry this team until AR is back.
Call me a homer,
of course yer a homer, don't you remember the coming out party ?
All too well
How about Tramon?
TT has always said that is better to let go a player one year before that one year after.
In Tramons case its going to be two years at least. After his injury he has been playing pretty bad football.
I'd speculate the coaches hoped he made a few of those missed tackles on Monday.
Hawk is not impactful, instinctive or gift with range. He made as many (or more) plays in the Batlimore game than he has in the rest of his seven-year career.
He's also the only linebacker on the club not to miss games with injuries this year.
Agree with Hersh.
Also why I think it is OK to expect/hope for more
I'd speculate the coaches hoped he made a few of those missed tackles on Monday.
Indeed
the one on 4th down and inches would have been a game changer
I guess the blocker had nothing to do with it.
I'd speculate the coaches hoped he made a few of those missed tackles on Monday.
I guess then we are in agreement except I would have to say the whole defense played like crap. It wasn't just one guy.
No, I think the defense did poorly (I thought Raji was disruptive...).
I've got no more excuses that Hawk is mediocre. There have been a few quarters of really good play from AJ, which is better than what we have seen the last few years, but I am not satisfied with that just because he wears Green and Gold.
I get a sense that you feel he is doing OK as a middle linebacker, which is a different opinion than mine (and perfectly fine). I just hope that a position can be defended better than "I guess since he is a Packer he is fine." I'm not entitled to that, but I do hope for it.
I don't think he is OK just because he plays for the Packers. It seems to me that they had him play a more aggressive scheme a few games this year and this last game had him playing a completely different scheme again. There also is the fact that no one seems to be able to beat him out. I do know when I watch the games, he seems to be directing the defense a lot before the snap. The coaches seem to trust him to be that guy.
I blame Winston Moss.

I never thought he was having a good year. I think that fans are enamored with statistics and after he had 3 sacks against Baltimore, assumed he was playing great. Well he wasn't. Many disagree with me but I see what I see on the field and IMO, he's an average player.
When every other LB took an injury #50 shows up every week. Some weeks he even looked less slow. This from a non AJ Hawk fan, he is doing fine this year. Pick on a star that deserves it.
Tramon is attempting to tackle frequently. His coverage has been good. He dropped a couple that would have taken him off the list.
Agree, Rat. Hawk shows up every single week, year after year. And he's taken a pay cut to do it. While the pundits would say it's because he's never close enough to tackle anyone, he has been better this year than in years past. And yes, it looked like until last week Capers let him be more the aggressor rather than the reactor and it has helped his game.
As for Tramon, he has made more mistakes this year than in the past and I look for House or someone to beat him out next year, but there are still a lot of teams who would snatch him up if he were released.
