Seems to me that Alex ran with tunnel vision today. Rodgers was interviewed after the game basically blaming the running game for the inability to pass. Said something to the effect that the jags were dropping 7-8 guys in coverage all game, and at some point you've got to be able to move the ball on the ground. In the file of 20/20 hindsight sure would have been nice to get lynch a couple years back for a third rounder!

There was a reason why TT signed Benson right before the start of the season. He didn't think Green was the answer (not enough sample size) and he didn't think that Starks could stay healthy for 16 games.

He was right on Starks. Green has not shown he can get the job done. Question is if TT has the same urgency to get a RB as he did as prior to start of the season.

I think Green's fine for what he was brought here to do...runs off the edge, catching passes in the flats, and picking up blitzes on 3rd down. I don't think he was meant to be an every down back, personally.

Agree with what you say here. He's meant to be a guy that's a spot player, not a 20 carry a game guy. Benson was that 20 carry per game guy. Out on the edge, he has some speed, but he isn't a good inside runner.

So it had nothing to do with Green coming off knee surgery and Starks getting hurt again.
I'm not so sure that Green is 100%. If a running back is going to come all the way back from major knee surgery, it usually takes a full season for them to do it. There are exceptions, obviously Adrian Peterson seems to be one. Maybe Green can't cut as much as he would normally. Couple that with the piss poor run blocking from the line, and you have today's performance.

The Packers need to address this though in the offseason or draft. No more picking backs off the scrap heap. If James Starks can't get healthy, enough. The Packers have been more than patient with him, and we're getting no return on that investment.

Aaron Rodgers deserves a great running back.

True. And add to the fact that Alex Green was never a "grinder" RB. He was drafted with the sugar plums of pass happy dancing through MM's head.

Did anyone truly expect this kid to grind out tough yards? Right now we basically have a slacker one cut back in Starks and a supposed wet dream of a third down back in Green.

What Green has pulled out so far is admirable behind this underperforming oline.

My wish, TT drafts the nasty mother****in' center in the draft.

I've seen quite enough of Alex Green stumbling for 1.5 yards, tripping over yard lines, running up the back of the Oline, no vision whatsover... This guy makes me wish for Ryan Grant to be back. He tripped up alot, but at least he'd fall forward for 3-4 yards.

Completely disagree. Watching him be patient behind blocks has shown me he is smart and truly picked up tips from Benson like he said. Still, he is not a every down back. Neither is Saine. Starks is barely an every down back. They pulled in Benson and they are bit with the injury bug.

Reality: This is a dome team that is now shifting into a hybrid team, which needs to happen.

Let me expand on my point for you.

When the Packers drafted Green, nobody expected him to be a between the tackles runner. He is a space player, screens, outside runs, 3rd down back. When it became apparent Starks wasn't going to be healthy to start the season, we needed a between the tackles guy--which is why we signed Benson, and he was doing better each game at that as he got comfortable with our scheme.

So, we have the same problem as before the season started. Trying to fit a guy into a role he doesn't fit (Green), and our other back is a guy who can't stay healthy and now has also apparently lost trust of the coaches (Starks)
I think we'll be fine now that Starks is getting healthy and the experiment/dealt hand of green being the starting rb are next to over. Starks should be getting more and more carries with green getting the calls for what he does best.. I feel comfortable with that 1-2 punch.

If there is one positive with the running game this first half of the season is they at least don't cough up the ball while trying to keep the offense half ass honest.

Except today, Starks comes in the game and grabs a pass for 9 yards followed by ripping off a 9-yard run. A couple plays later he drops a pass and doesn't see the field again.

Where was he earlier in the game?? Why not change it up in the backfield when Green (and the o-line) were clearly NOT getting it done???
Everything begins and ends with the OL, and our boys ain't gitten 'er done.
Our interior should be dominant in the running game, yet they're blown up more often than not. Surely it isn't a question of skill or experience; we've got that covered, and that makes me think that the scheme is likely flawed. Or at least it is for our team, since it's obvious we can't execute it. And haven't for the 8-9-10 years it's been here.

He is sloppy
Starks has never picked up the offense, in particular pass protection, no way MM is letting the franchise get killed. Green isn't much in the running game but he protects the ball a lot better than I thought he would and he's pretty darn good at picking up the blitz.

I think Green can be a dangerous weapon on third down and in an ideal setting that would be his role. For some reason they love Kuhn there. I don't get it.
Starks was sick this week and missed the only padded practice. I like him better on 1st and 2nd but then you can throw all the screens out the window and you have to hold your breath on the pass protection. I think Starks is the goal line guy as long as Kuhn can't go.

Saturday is what he is. The Colts had an inconsistent running game for a reason, Bulaga's knee has been dinged but he's flaky and inconsistent. It's kind of hard not to look squarely at Campen, All the guys have shown ability but none of them have shown consistency.

a btw, Sitton hasn't been bad but he sure as hell hasn't been as good (or nasty) as he was when he was playing for his new contract.
and another btw, I don't think it helps Green having Fontenot and then Alex Van Pelt as his position coach. The heck can they teach Green about the subtleties of running the ball. It's hard for me to believe that Bennett wouldn't be able to get more out of the kid when it comes to his problem areas. They can say anything they want about coaches not having to play the position but experience has to count for something.
