"Oh boy is this great"
It is going to be a good off-season.
Good article by McGinn. It's journalism. It's a year end recap and it's meant to evaluate how everything went (performance, decisions, etc.). If you don't like it, don't read it.
And that's my whole point, McGinn is exaggerating the entire situation just so people will read his article. That's not something new or shocking, it's a common tactic and it's an effective one. He's not being an objective or thoughtful in this instance.
I respect McGinn as a reporter also and I'm more than sure he has inside sources, unlike guys like Arrigo, but all he's trying to do by saying he hears "whispers in the lockerroom" is stir up crap to get people talking. Talking about an issue that is entirely a non-issue. We're not going to cut AJ Hawk a year into his brand new contract, we're not even going to trade him. If I'm wrong I will eat crow, but I'm 99% sure I won't be and I seriously doubt McGinn believes Hawk will be gone. Analyzing Hawk and giving him a D- grade or whatever is perfectly fine, but to try and make it sound like teammates are calling for him to be ousted is ridiculous.
And you're amazed that the style of play we won a SB with wasn't corrected? That kind of play is the reason we had what 10 INTs and we 3 defensive TDs in the post season of 2010? It's not hard to figure out that the coaches want our DBs to play like that, they want them to be aggressive and gamble and get takeaways. This is the kind of defense Capers wants, he wants our DBs to attack the ball and get takeaways.

Probably just a plot to get more e-reader subscriptions.
I'm fine with what McGinn said. One thing about journalists, if the reporter is credible, as it appears McGinn is, then the whispers he heard were definitely there. There's a couple reasons he can't put the words in someone's mouth: 1)no one will admit it on the record, 2)if he says "somebody said" he may blow a source, 3)if he says something during the season, then he may get tossed from the locker room by the team, 4)if he reports the whispers during the season, the hometown fans would crucify him if they perceive it as hurting the team's play and chemistry, and 5)if he doesn't say anything at all, then he risks getting asked by his bosses why he wasn't on the story if another reporter breaks it.
My guess is McGinn was in a "danged if you do, and danged if you don't" spot. So, he held the information till the end of the season to not disrupt the team and its fans, and in the hope someone would say it for the record. Since he didn't get someone to step forward, he has to report it as "whispers." I'm sure he'd rather have someone step up and say it than report it like he felt he had to.
Luckily, this ain't the New York media or Rexy, neither of whom care about hurting a team's chemistry or its fans.

Or, it could be that he's just blathering.
I don't have the years of experience reading McGinn, and most of this article is spot-on, but there are certain phrases he uses that smacks of poop-flinging to see how much of it sticks.
Absolutely nothing factual in those statements.
Ditto. I'm willing to say he has very little to no knowledge of what players "say" about teammates, and my statement is no more/no less factual than his. And he doesn't attribute those 'whispers' to a source, although he mentions "...a scout says...' referring to D J Smith in the next sentence.
I'll kiss Patty's ass in the middle of Brett Favre Pass if TT ever said anything even remotely close to this to McGinn.
Yes, I'm sure that's exactly how every coordinator makes decisions.
I won't quote all of his comments he made about the defensive backfield, but it reads to me that he places the blame for their performance on Woodson. He's the one that "cultured" and is the "ringleader" of the risk-taking play.
I'd give more credence to his remarks if it weren't for statements like these.

Good piece by McGinn. Blunt, but true.
Normally I loathe Bob McGinn.. but this piece was on par with what we saw this season - especially from our defense.
It just highlights how damn dynamic our offense was. I dont agree with Wells not being replaceable. Center is a critical position on the offensive line, but he is very weak at the point of attack in the run game. He is very good against the pass. I wouldnt go north of 6M per year for him at 2-3 years. He's 31..
