Mordecai just gave away a TD and he should have had a pick 6 earlier. This is a nothing opponent. What is going to happen in the Big Ten when he does that? Longo is to blame too for throwing three passes and no runs in that sequence at that stage of the game. That's called arrogance. Look what happens when they hand the ball off. Buffalo is gassed against the run.

During the offseason everyone was raving about the quality and depth of the WR group.  If Will Paulding is WR1 this team is in major trouble.

Dike, B Green, L Lewis and Trech K have what, 3 catches combined for like 40 yards?  Longo has a lot of work to do.

How can you tell if the WR group is good with Mordecai at QB?

Bryson Green was destroying everyone in the camps.  Dike is a decent WR.  Keontez Lewis is a legit deep threat.   Hell even Skylar Bell had some good moments last year.  Collectively, those guys did NOTHING in this game.  Not sure how that’s possible.   Mordecai has to play better for sure, but there’s a lot more the staff needs to do with this passing offense and OL.

I don't know if the panic mode can be coached out of  Mordecai. This is his 6th season and he's thrown close to 1000 passes in his career. If that can be coached out somebody would have done it by now.

I don't know what Longo was doing today. He was throwing passes until the bitter end. No way a guy should be throwing an INT leading by 18 with 6 minutes to go. At that point the Badgers are no longer playing Buffalo, they are playing against the clock.

Yes, it is probably to late to correct Mordechai. But they need to get on his ass. With the RB's they have, you only need to be mediocre and you should be able to move the ball. With the little we saw of the WR's and the freshman TE, the offense should score. The defense needs work.

Did they look good in camp because the Badgers DBs just aren't very good?

i don’t understand why the vast majority of the passes were horizontal. I thought the idea was to stretch the field.  not impressed with Mordechai at all. good thing they have other qbs on the roster

Joe Barry is coaching?

-I will chalk this up to 1st game jitters. I think that there was no tape on this offense and defense so they were running a very vanilla offense and defense. I am confident that they will look better next week

I think there’s something to be said for first game jitters or just simply learning on the fly.   We’ve seen this countless times from the Badgers over the last 25 years early in the season.

At this point, I don’t know what to make of Tanner Mordecai.  He has to play a lot better.  But I also don’t know why Longo made little to no effort to stretch the field with more passes downfield.  Unlike previous seasons, the Badgers actually have several WRs that can run and it seemed like basically all short throws.   Now, I think to some extent Buffalo was playing to defend the long passes but still it’s Buffalo.

The good news is the running game got going (eventually) but against better teams you can’t wait until the 3Q to get your shit together.

Should be an interesting season for the Badgers and college football.  Colorado playing Madden 24 type offense (and defense lol) will be entertaining.  Caleb Williams is certainly worth the Cardinals tanking over.  The blue bloods like Georgia and Alabama still look like it.   Ohio State only beating a terrible Indiana team by 20 might be the biggest surprise of the day despise having (again) two WRs that will go in the top 15 of the draft next year.

Next week will get much tougher for UW and in the little that I’ve been able to gather about Wazoo they do apply a lot of pressure and they have some athletes so the Badgers OL needs to block better and the tackling on D has to get a lot better.

I don’t get the sky is falling vibe.  First game, they scored 38(could have been 45, thanks Bell) and got better as the tilt went on.

WSU beat Wisc last year at home so next week will be a good test.

That’s the thing.  If Buffalo is going to play back in coverage then the Badgers should RTFB.  Longo doesn’t need to explain anything to us but I’m guessing that’s why UW did what they did offensively.

UNC under Sam Howell RTFB a lot so maybe just do what the defense is giving you.   It just would have been nice to see the Badgers have a little more confidence and success in the passing game (Bell drop notwithstanding).

I think we'll all get tired of Mordecai soon enough. For all of his gaudy stats he's only played against one top 20 school, ironically it was CIN. Armstrong was the QB Fickell was trying to get and I think Mordecai was the consolation prize. His job is probably to keep the program respectable for one season but I'm far from convinced he can do that.

I'm not sure about Longo either. He could have ran the ball and opened up the deep passing game put threw short passes. Allen had 8 carries in the first half. Even in the end, with a dominate running game against a worn down defense he threw the ball.

Clearly the Badgers should be able to RTFB but against teams like Iowa and Minnesota and Illinois and O$U they are going to play 8 or 9 man boxes and basically make UW throw the ball to beat them.  Maybe that’s why Longo was dialing up so many pass plays.

Washington State isn’t as good as those teams but obviously they are better than Buffalo.  They like to blitz and they have an athletic QB.  The Badgers had issues tackling yesterday and the Cougars can score points so maybe the ground and pound formula is the way to go.

One thing about CFB is that they do not have the luxury of having a preseason so they have to be at their best right away.   I also think its going to take a bit for the air raid offense to get going there are a lot of new pieces in place and sometimes it just takes a bit.

I have no idea how good WSU is but they put up 50 on Colorado St. so UW better be ready.
