Not ready to fellate Hafley just yet. Those numbers are mostly from titans/Colts with young inexperienced qbs. I still remember how the eagles bent us over and rammed it in all night.

We'll see what happens this weekend. Huge test

I'm old enough to remember the defense giving the offense the ball twice in the first quarter inside the 20 yard line and the offense put up 6.

But yeah, the defense did struggle late in the first quarter and pretty much all of the 2nd quarter. That's also the first game of the year with a bunch of guys that didn't play in the preseason. This game Sunday should give us a real good idea of where the D is right now.

Agree with this. Hafley is running a new system as well and teams don't have a ton of film yet on his tendencies but they will in time.

As I recall, we saw similar crap with Barry; shutting down the Loins one week, shitting the bed against the Giants the next. I want to see Hafley's defense work as promised consistently before I get too worked up.
With that said, I don't want to nit-pick Hafley too much, his defense is performing very well statistically. But I still don't have the confidence in the defense to close out a game yet. I hope it's close.

I don't think it's realistic to think the Packers defense will perform like it did last week in every game, but it's a helluva goal to set. It surely showed what they are capable of doing when they take advantage of the opportunities they create.
Generating pressure that leads to sacks or TOs beats the hell out of soft coverage and passive defense.

I see this game as tilting in MN's favor right now. I can't get excited by the GB D until they beat a good team -- Philly got 34 points relatively easily (even though it was the first game). While Darnold is not Hurts, MN's receiving corps is among the very best, and the Jones/Chandler running combo is very good.

Darnold has been so good against the blitz because they now use a blocking TE with Hockenson out, and Jones/Chandler are excellent at picking up the blitz. That gives Darnold the extra beat he needs to find a guy -- and the GB LBs are an area of concern.

I'm not sure Love will play. He still looks a bit stiff on that leg as he moves, like he doesn't solidly trust it yet. If he does play and GB gets behind, Love may take a chance to make a play and we'll all be holding our breath the brace does the job. So, I think Willis plays.

Prediction: I hate the Vikings, I hate the Vikings, but I think this one goes their way by 6.     I would also happily eat crow.

Stats from the GBP Insider Inbox today regarding some plays of the MN v Texans game:

  • Texans flagged 11 times for 88 yards
  • First play of the game holding call left a first-and-20; Vikes intercepted on the next play for a short field and TD
  • Down 14-0 in 2Q, Houston had a third-and-4 at the MN 25, refs flagged them for three straight false starts () leading to a punt on third-and-19
  • Illegal formation call leaves a third-and-15
  • DPI and RPT helped MN score 10 more points
  • Refs have flagged GB 26 times for 196 yards in three games; MN opponents have been hankeyed 24 times for 213 yards

Perhaps this would be a good time for MLF to emphasize playing sqeaky-clean football. GB can't beat itself.

The defense seemed to do better when the Packers pulled ahead. Can the offense get a lead against the Vikings?  If not, we'll see what the defense is made of.

I am also one who is quietly confident about this defense.  Statistically, they are pretty darn good and I believe they may have more turnovers right now than they got all of last  year. Creating turnovers is awesome but at the same time you cannot live by them and expect them you also need to make good physical stops.

Maybe a lot of us are conditioned to be cautious with the Packers defense because for quite awhile they were the weakness of this team.  Now is definitely the time to make it happen and lead this team.

This is true.  It is also true, at least according to the DC, that they are still running a very basic version of the D.   Bells and whistles probably won't come until Nov/Dec.

From Wes Roesch.....

Vikings QB Sam Darnold over 225 passing yards (-120 at DraftKings)

Who had Darnold as an early-season MVP candidate on their NFL bingo card? Darnold leads the league in touchdown passes and is second in passer rating. All signs are pointing to Jordan Addison returning this week, giving Darnold another weapon to work with. He should have no problem getting to 225 passing yards against a middling Packers defense.
