I think a couple years ago with the new tv deal?  They made it so conferences were not dedicated to particular networks.

But if you go back before Fox, NFC was always on CBS.

I had forgotten all about that but you are right.  When I first started watching the NFL in the late 1970s, the AFC was on NBC, the NFC on CBS, and ABC had Monday Night Football which was a mix of both conferences.  Didn’t have to worry about games being on Fox, ESPN, Amazon, or Peacock back then!! 😀

MN has been surprising with a couple of LBs who are playing far better than advertised. The same with Darnold; he's been playing well above his pay grade, as is their team. Flores is a good DC, and you know Aaron Jones will want to show Gutey and MLF that he can still be a difference-maker.

I think you'll see a heavier dose of Jones catching out of the backfield (5 catches this past week), and XM and Bullard have got to help out on Jefferson (6 catches) and possibly Addison (day-to-day ankle). Thank goodness Hockenson is still out as it's one less guy to worry about. They do have some weapons.

This is going to be a good test for Hafley to see how he calls it, if his D adjusts, if Bullard and XM can take away the down-the-field stuff, and if the LBs can contain Jones.

That's all. Easy-peasy, squeezy-cheesey.

I agree on Jones I think they will find any way they can to get the ball in his hands.  I think this week is when we will really find out how good Hafley is as a DC.  The Spermheads have some weapons and its going to be tough containing both Jones and Jefferson.

Maybe the vikings should prepare for both of THEIR own QBS.

Packers are at home. No horn. And hopefully not a lot of purple jerseys like last year either

1. His heart is in the right place. 2. It's the Gold Package. Hopefully, Milwaukee fans show up, in droves.

Part of me still hopes for payback, on a Barr-Rodgers level, from our Defense. Now that the vikings have painted a target, on Darnold's knee, maybe this is the right time to exact our revenge? I would hate to see anyone, especially the viking QB, get hurt though. Really I would.

Yes. I think the AFC package would have generated much less revenue without some flexing of NFC games like this. The top 4 teams for TV ratings and 7 of the top 10 are in the NFC. The biggest TV markets regardless of team popularity are either NFC teams (Chicago), markets with a team in each conference dominated by the NFC team (Giants), or markets where the locals don't care about their teams at all (LA).

It's a noon game with decent weather, the Milwaukee fans will be there.

I still think there's going to be too much of a temptation to soak Vikings fans with some 3x or 4x face value tickets. Hope I'm wrong!

Agree. Milwaukee has been paid back for their early support, but that time is gone. Screw the Gold Package.

Not getting the hate on Gold package fans. In my experience they are louder than Green package and also less likely to sell their tickets.

Green package still has too many of older "Down in front" kind of crowd, although they seem to be getting younger.

Walker can't contain shit.   He is the weak link and if the Vikings are smart, Jones will abuse him all day.

Let's see it....

I think QB play will go a long way in determining the outcome of this game, but I see how you can point to the D because it's all interconnected. Good defense will hopefully negate the ability of the QB's. It's just a matter how you look at it.

But fuck "power rankings." They don't mean shit and never have. Almost as useless as pregame shows.

No matter who our quarterback is, our defense will be the key to a victory. The Vikings are no joke....

Truer words were ne'er spoken, PP.

I was looking at offensive and defensive stats this morning, and they are indeed a formidable opponent.
For as full of myself as I have been with how well the Packers have been playing with Love out, the Vikes are actually playing better on both sides of the ball.

From what I see, this is a game that will be won or lost in the trenches. As always, the OL will have to stand up to their pass rush, and make some holes for the RBs.
Conversely, the DL must create pressure on Darnold. I hope his lack of mobility, at least compared to the 3 QBs the Pack has played against so far, will be a benefit to our guys. Creating TOs could play a critical role; Vikes have fumbled 5 times rushing.

A look at the Vikings from former NFL player, also Christian Watson’s dad, whose football takes are pretty decent:

@NFLHitman33:

PACKERS NATION… SOME OF YOU ASKED, so here it is…

MY PACKERS VS. VIKINGS MATCHUP-WHAT’S ON TAPE:
(Our defense vs. Their offense)
-This isn’t the same old Sam Darnold. He’s protecting the football, and he’s distributing it all over the field. What’s probably most impressive is that he’s not overly reliant on JJ. He’s going through all his reads.
-The Vikings have found a legit 3rd WR option. With Addison out of the lineup they’ve discovered that Jalen Nailor can play.
-Aaron Jones looks like the quick and spry version of himself. He’s playing well, and has a very complementary backup, without much dropoff.
-Even with all of the above positives, their offensive line’s pass protection is basically ass. The run blocking is OK. The skill guys are performing well in spite of them, not because of them. Their biggest vulnerability will be based in our front seven taking advantage of this offensive line. They have 3 decent NFL players at the 2 tackles and left guard. Most notably negative are the center and right guard. They are both AWFUL!

(Our offense vs. Their defense)
-These guys play defense like a bee swarm. They align in multiples, standing at the line at times, with primarily an under front that “shifts” on almost every play.
-The linebackers and even the safeties are heavily involved in the pressure packages, AND THEY CAUSE DISRUPTION AND/OR GET HOME OFTEN!
-What’s most notable is that the front 7 has explosive athletes on the outside and 2nd levels, and they count on confusing and overwhelming the protections(reference the above “bee swarm” analogy).
-It’s important for their success to get offenses behind the chains, so they can pin their ears back and come. Otherwise, because of their heavy reliance on pressure, they’re extremely susceptible to a power and zone running team that’s able to break through that initial swarm of defenders.
-Jacobs and Wilson are tailor made RB’s to take advantage of this defense; and if Willis is who’s paired with them, they’ll have to pick their poison, as was the case with the Titans.
-Their secondary is schematically sound more so than athletically talented, and doesn’t really have a single player who can shut down a legitimate receiving threat one-on-one. They simply can’t run, and really need coverage disguises and the front to provide the aforementioned pressure for their success. They will invert their corners and safeties to disguise Cover 0, then bail to play inverted Cover 2 at the snap. Thus far it has worked. They are very savvy and play zone coverages with their blitzes very well!
-The vulnerability to this defense will be the exact same as was the case with the Titans last week. If a run game hits them in the mouth, they’ll be in trouble, and if they can’t put our offense behind the sticks, and need to creep the safeties up to help with the run, they’ll be cooked. Again, they don’t have a single defensive back who’ll be able to run with either our WR’s or TE’s up the field!

In sum, there’s a formula to win this game convincingly. The Titans were the top defense in the league UNTIL they faced our offense last week. Now, the challenge is on deck for the Vikings. On the other side of the ball, the Vikings have the exact same vulnerability as the Titans: A BAD PASS PROTECTING OFFENSIVE LINE. Except their line is actually worse than the Titans. So, our defensive front has to come to work with the same lunch pails carried last week!

I have always said power rankings are about as useless as my ex wife.  But, that being said I do believe right now the Spermheads may be no joke and are playing like one of the top teams in the NFL.  Time will tell if they can keep it up.
