Clay Matthews suffered a broken thumb in the 3rd quarter of todays' game.

Really?
Rub some dirt on it.
Get it fixed and come back in a couple weeks. Good opportunity for the young guys to get experience and I'd rather have Clay back full strength than having one hand.
I guess leaving him unblocked was a good call.
Mike Neal played quite a bit today, even before the injury.
Makes me feel better.
See a doctor and get rid of it.
I think there's more than enough awareness of thumb injuries.

Where were you when I was a Sophomore in college?
I'm guessing middle school.
I guess he didn't stretch that thumb enough.
you don't see any 49ers with broken thumbs
Ronnie Lott would just have them cut it off. Matthews must be a wimp.
Per WISN, Matthews broke the thumb in the 3rd quarter and "wasn't even aware he had broke it". Perhaps a good sign it's not a badly displaced fracture.

The pain from his hamstring blocked sensation from the rest of his body.
From what I've read, he could be out there this week already with a cast if he doesn't require surgery. Surgery would cost him a few games.
It's common for most players to put a soft cast on and play through the injury. Hopefully CMIII is able to do it as well.
Don't like the path this is going down.
Not getting a good vibe regarding this
cmoun, season ending for a thumb? cmoun
Can't go one season without losing 2-3 of the teams top players it seems.
MM: In Clay's case, first step is to find out exactly what needs to be done with injury. Have had guys play with clubs, others surgery.
MM: Can player play with club depends on position and other factors.
Losing Clay for the season because of a thumb would suck. One would think the area could be stabilized with a cast.
MM: Ted Thompson will have announcement at end of day as far as roster, related to Robert Francois. (likely means he's out for season).
RT @MikeVandermause: MM: Cut my lip shaving (when asked about his mustache). #Packers pic.twitter.com/uwydKOY0jq
MM suggested it may be one of the small bones in the wrist- which are notoriously slow to heal...
They'll know the answer this afternoon; they'll tell us when they are good and ready
Adam Schefter â@AdamSchefter 2m
Packers LB Clay Matthews still is undergoing more testing, but he is expected to miss one month with a broken thumb.
better than season ending, I guess

Is he out for the season? Does that mean we'll get a better play-caller? [/sarcasm]
One must assume, these are snippets!!!!

Ya know, I really don't like to complain about injuries but this is just ****ing bull****...
#Packers LB Clay Matthews expected to miss month with broken thumb, per @AdamSchefter
Since Schefter's sources are usually right up there with Glazers, I'd assume that means surgery for CMIII but thankfully not season ending. GB has a tough game against the Ravens, then the schedule is:
Browns at home.
@ Queens
Bores at home.
Eagles at home.
EDIT: Combined record of 8-10. Plus Browns lose Hoyer, Vick is ruled out for week 6, Queens are a mess at QB, and we get the Bores at home. Could be worse..
the good new is that his hamstring can completely heal during that time.
See a doctor and get rid of it.
The Lord loves a working man.
Crazy that a thumb can keep him out longer than a hammy. Either way, this could work out well, if Neal continues to play well and then CMIII comes back in Nov. for the stretch run.
I also wonder if perhaps since CMIII's technique is so much about hand work and that's how he does so well shedding blockers, Green and Capers felt a club wouldn't work for him and they are waiting for it to heal and he'll come back without needing a full club (vs. a small soft cast he could play with). If that's the case, maybe surgery wasn't needed and they simply want it to heal??
Also, with LB Clay Matthews, final word will come from specialists on when he can return or if he can avoid surgery.
#Packers must feel OK about Brad Jones (hamstring) given that they signed a CB (James Nixon) rather than a LB to replace Francois (Achilles)
Being Mr. Negative here, but... It wouldn't shock me to see the Packers hold off on surgery for 4 weeks hoping it heals on it's own and then come to find out surgery was needed after all.
I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the fact a thumb is going to keep him from playing football.
Favre is clearly tougher than Clay.
