@AdamSchefter
NFL is proposing to overhaul its calendar, pushing back the combine to early March, free agency to early April, and the draft to early May.

@AdamSchefter
Want to know one more reason why NFL wants the draft in early May? TV sweeps are in May. Bigger ratings, bigger dollars.

@AdamSchefter
Idea of overhauled calendar is to lengthen NFL off-season and make football relevant over longer period with one big event each month.

on losing vets: In the NFL, the wheel keeps turning. ... We feel confident about the leadership in our locker room.

It's next man up. You try to train your players and your coaching staff to take the next step to grow and evolve. NFL about evolving.

losing Schneider, McKenzie and Dorsey to GM jobs means "next man up."

on Nick Perry: We'll get thru this injury bug, come back and play and be a good player for the Packers.

on Sherrod/Bulaga: "We expect those guys to be able to come back and play."

won't talk about free agents but says it's "always good policy" to keep your own players and "that includes Greg (Jennings)."

on advice to John Dorsey: "John doesn't need my advice. ... the Chiefs are in good hands. I promise you that."

on D.Harris: "He did a good job and we're looking forward to having him do the whole thing ... Lot more we need to know about him."

on Ron Wolf: "He's the best scout I've ever been around and he taught us all well."

on teams lying this time of year: "It's all a mess."

Apparently Ted Thompson hasn't bought a Coca-Cola in awhile. He says he'd rather buy it at a store where it's $0.25 instead of $0.50.

on if you need certain def players for option: "Not really. You find good players and good players can find a way to do the other stuff."

on Barclay: Did a good job. Forced into action before he and we thought we'd need him. ...Has some things to work on in the future

on Benson: Cedric is scheduled to be a UFA. We don't discuss specifically those guys.

on if GB needs to get better with improving division: "No, I wish we would not get better."

very interesting.... I think it'll play out a lot like James Jones' deal but I think GJ has developed a lil' bad blood so we might not get him back.

He should think about stand-up

The NFL loves the Packers. They keep supplying the league with talent
quote:

Thompson on role/future of RB DuJuan Harris after last year's strong finish.

"He did a good job. And we’re looking forward to having him here for the whole thing, because when you come in in the middle of the season, you don’t go through the offseason, you don’t get to see them in training camp and the stress times and things like that. You’re already in the regular season. So there’s a lot more that we need to get to know about him. But he did a nice job for us."

Thompson on evaluating non-measurables at the #NFLCombine. Good quote about having 'it' factor:

"I think a lot of people focus on the 40-yard dashes or the jumps or the physical testing. Some people focus on the interviews. At the end of the day, all of us, all 32 teams, all the 32 people that are in my position at other places are going to have to, when they make that decision on the player they bring in, it’s, can that player help them win games? Does he have this inside thing that allows him to go beyond what he maybe normally would do? There’s an ‘it’ factor. I don’t know how to quantify it, to use your term, I don’t know how to quantify that, and you can’t find it. You don’t really know it until you see it, and usually it’s already too late, if you know what I’m saying. It’s hard to do that just from going to the school, watching tape, talking to the coaches, seeing the player practice, writing a report that night. It’s hard to find that ‘it’ thing. But you know it when you see it, when you have him on your team you know those guys with the ‘it.’"

McCarthy...

on run game: Obviously there's definitely room for improvement. Talk as staff about running football smart.

Attempts have improved. Can still run better than we have last two years. We definitely need to do a better job.

I don't pay a lot of creed to the fact that you have to run it as much as you throw it.

You don't replace a Charles Woodson. You don't replace a Donald Driver. ...Leadership opp's for every man in that locker room

"579 is a number that will stick in our focus as a defense this off-season."

I don't regret anything about last season. Regret is an excuse. I don't live in that mind-set.

says the defensive staff will go to Texas A&M to meet with Kevin Sumlin to learn more about defending read-option.

on Combine: We're looking for good players that add to the culture of the Green Bay Packers.

"San Francisco had a great year, beat us twice and will definitely be a focus for us this off-season."

on Sherrod: He's there every day. See him in training room every day. Surgery a success and what he needed. He's in the injury category. I know it's magnified with where he was drafted. But he's injured. ...Needs to get healthy.

on Worthy: "Training camp is definitely going to be a stretch because of timing of his injury."

Definitely believe Worthy can be a guy who makes a big jump in year 2.

on John Dorsey: Always referred to him as Paul Harvey with how he asked questions. ...He's a grinder. He's a hard worker.

@TyDunne
At Eddie Lacy's presser. Says, "I was able to step up in the big games, the big stages. In the NFL it's always a big game."

Lacy says he'd love to play in Green Bay because with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback the defense would never key on him.
