What does that say for the Packers and their impending salary cap pressures? It's tough on any team with the mega deal to build around.
A lot of teams are in cap hell or heck this year, the Packers are in pretty good shape. New Orleans over paid Breeze given that the salary cap is at 121 million this year. The Saints will have to let some very good player leave including their starting left tackle.
I think the key is, to have great players, but realize that in order to win championships, they need to be a team player and not get the max $$$. This is where TT/MM judge character and "packer people" during the draft. (Obviously, a lot easier said than done).

I love the way some people are certain Flacco wont get the 20 million per year,more than one player has been awarded unwarranted huge salaries in the past in all pro sports and I think this will be another case of that happening but no one really knows the inner circles of teams owners and GMs and how they really feel about their players and what they think they are worth,it will be interesting to see how much the Packers think Rodgers is worth to them.

If the Ravens release Boldin to make room for Flacco's $20 million, I'm going to laugh. Outside of Torrey Smith, who is a great receiver, they have nothing else that scares me at receiver besides Boldin.
I know this will come up, so I might as well say it. If Boldin is released, do the Packers take a look at him? He's 32, but still in top shape, and I don't care what his #'s say. He's still an elite receiver. He's making $6 mil a year right now. I know we're looking for money to pay Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews, but I bet that Aaron would love to have a big receiver like Anquan in Green Bay. The guy catches everything, and $6 mil is about what I'd pay Greg to stay. He might be a real bargain at that amount.

Maybe he does really retire if released. But athletes often say one thing, and then do another. As Packer fans, we know this all too well, and if the price is right, he's an option the Packers could at least explore.
I think Boldin is playing the PR game. This is a brilliant move on his part. If the Ravens find other ways to pay Flacco, and end up keeping him, he looks good, and becomes even more popular in Baltimore. If he is released, and does retire, he's loved in Baltimore. Either way he looks good.
If Ted Thompson were to call him, and say "Hey Anquan, how'd you like to come and catch passes from Aaron Rodgers for $6 million a year", I'd be surprised if he didn't at least consider it.

Fair enough. It doesn't exactly address the notion that Jennings no longer wants to be in Green Bay, but I get your point.
And yeah, they have a bunch of other needs. My point is I believe the WR unit will take a hit this year, and many fans just assume the group will just continue to be the best in the league.
I don't care for speculation as to who Ted should go after in free agency. I just feel like he might wanna look to be a bit proactive in KEEPING this unit as dangerous as it has been, and a guy like Boldin could certainly help that happen.

Oh, the WR set will take a hit but not enough to shell out FA money on a old WR. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if TT took a WR in the first few rounds if he thought the value was right.
If Cobb, Nelson, Jones and Finley are healthy, that's still a group I put in the top 25% of the NFL particularly when combined with Rodgers. They'll miss Jennings, and yet I think this group has shown they can withstand his absence.
The problem will be if any 1 of those guys gets hurt for a significant amount of time. They could afford to have a guy get hurt before with almost no dropoff. That likely changes with no more Driver or Jennings on the roster.

Jennings was a complete non factor last year. They got by without him. The problems arose because they were also missing at least one other guy for most of the time Jennings was down, Nelson in particular. The fact that they had no credible running attack and a crap OL didn't help matters much either. Fixing the offensive line would do far more to help the offense than re-signing Jennings or getting some other WR would ever do. Cobb/Nelson/Jones just need to get healthy and stay that way next year. If they can, they will still be a top five WR trio. Even keeping two out of three healthy is more than enough if they fix the rest of the offense (you know, the problems that lead to McCarthy calling 12 rushing attempts in a game or Rodgers getting sacked 51 times in a season). A WR in the first two rounds would signify that Air Coryell has come to Green Bay. Receiver/QB feast, defense/OL/RB famine Air Coryell teams may get a lot of games on primetime TV, but they'll never win a championship.

I hope Quarless can come back to 100 percent. If he does, that gives us a legitimate two-tight-end set and I think we were missing that last year. If we get that, it could help open up the running game by giving our Oline some help and the D wouldn't know which way the play was going. It would also give us some options underneath to clear out the linebackers, and get the safeties off our receivers which would help them get open as well. Add a good lineman to two good tight ends, and I think we're in a lot better shape than if we added a WR. Besides, I have faith if TT wants a WR, he'll find one to develop in the later rounds.
No interceptions and even tho deep throws look more like punts, his guys caught them. Rodgers could demand so much that we can't afford a bunch of other players. He'd probably stay for 12 million and keeping Jones and Jennings. Greg wants to move on. Fare well and prosper. You should play for the Lakers.
