No way the Ravens win it all without Flacco playing the way he did in the postseason. He was clutch and simply did not make the big mistake he's been known for in the past.
In a way, he reminded me of the run Eli Manning went on in 2007 when the Giants surprised everyone to win it.
Time will tell if he's "elite" but he got paid and in some respects that's all that matters.
Flacco isn't Rodgers, but he's a good quarterback who picked the perfect time to play his best football. Anyone who didn't see this contract coming wasn't paying attention.

Flacco really was tremendous. This wasn't one of those typical dominant Ravens defenses that he was playing with this year. They were a good defense, but not as good as some of the past ones.
Did they get a little bit lucky with that pass vs. the Broncos? Yes, but that said, I don't think there's more than a handful of guys in the league that could throw a deep ball as long and perfect as that one was thrown. Got a little lucky the defender misjudged it, but still a great incredible throw.
Flacco is a bit like Ben Roethlisberger as a player but he's a much better human being.
Put him on the cover of Madden next year.
And tell him to stay out of bar bathrooms with college-aged girls!
Reminds me of the deal Atlanta gave Jon Koncak back in the late 80's. He got paid better than Michael Jordan.

If the Ravens wanted to bump up his salary a little bit as a thank you, no problem.
They were reportedly offering $16 million per prior to his playoff run so that's apparently what they did. I give Flacco credit for believing in his abilities and rolling the dice. He very well could have performed poorly and wound up with less money.

I must have missed the year the Hawks won the NBA championship.
There's no question that Flacco got paid a LOT with this contract but every year we see some guys getting huge money that make us shake our heads. At least Flacco has done something.
Guessing Rodgers will probably cost the Packers a little more $ now.

Great comparison! Not sure if it is a good one but using Jon Koncack of all people is pure jeenyus.
Anyway, who cares. Flacco will be the highest paid QB until the next one is.
EDIT: Makes sense now...Koncak was born in Cedar Rapids...
Though a reliable defender for much of his career, Koncak is perhaps best remembered for the six-year, US$ 13 million contract he received from the Hawks in 1989 β an unprecedented total for a reserve. The deal was roundly criticized since it paid Koncak more than Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. His large contract prevented the Hawks from taking part in any other major free agent signings for several years. As a result, he earned the derisive nickname "Jon Contract."

So is every stat Rogers (or any QB) puts up. On the other end of every pass is another player. Each reception belongs to AR and another player. Every thrown TD had a passer and a catcher. The O-line blocking and the YAC all are team efforts. The list goes on and on.
It's also worth noting that Flacco should have had his team in 2 SBs, but Evans dropped a TD and he FG kicker missed a makable FG that allowed the Pats to advance. It wasn't like Flacco was a one year wonder.
I still don't think he's worth he $$$ though...

Brent did that too with his first Packer pass, he just didn't gain any yardage.
And he was just like a kid out there.

The same cannot be said for INTs.
"The receiver ran the wrong route."

Rodgers throws his WRs open, not under the bus.
With the details of Flacco's deal coming out it looks like a 3 year deal... he is due $29mm in year 4!!! No one they get there.

He's only $6.8 Million under the cap this season.
If he sucks (which I doubt) in 2013, they could cut him & "only" be on the hook for $51.
They'll keep him for 2 years for sure & probably 3, but his "$120 Million" is really $62 million.
Again it's all show for the agent to rope in other players "Look what I did for Joe Flacco!!"
I'm looking for Rodgers to get something similar in the $65-$70 million range over 3 years, no matter what kind of window dressing they put on it
